~Dream On~ (NaLu)

~Dream On~

Lucy couldn't believe what was happening. This...this shouldn't be happening...

"Why-why won't he wake up...?"
She asked the pink haired Fairy Tail healer for what felt like the millionth time. The millionth time, in the same dead voice, that caused everyone who heard it to cringe. If you had asked anyone, they would have said that Lucy, the always light hearted, cheerful girl, was dead inside.

All just from hearing her voice.

Then they would be right.

She felt empty inside.

Hollow.

It was all a blur...a blur of noise and color. This job...this simple job had turned into a nightmare that Lucy couldn't wake up from.
No matter how hard she tried.
No matter how hard she willed herself.

She
Couldn't
Wake
Up

"What happened?" She faintly heard Porlyusica ask.

"He was hit by some kind of Magic I've never seen before. We tried everything, but he wouldn't wake up." That was Gray's voice, urgent, and close to panic.

He...won't...wake up...

"I-I tried"-sob-"wake him up!" Wendy wailed.

"It is not your fault, Wendy...I'm sure he'll wake up." Erza, being her optimistic self.

"Come on, Natsu! Wake up! I got some yummy fish for you!" Happy, trying to wake his best friend up, persuaded gently.

Lucy remained silent.

She couldn't move.

Couldn't breath.

He has to wake up...

He has too.

I'll be so lonely...

Then days passed; Natsu wouldn't wake up no matter what Porlyusica did. No matter what potion she made him drink or created, nothing could counteract the Magic that made him sleep.

None of it worked.

Lucy's spirits didn't know what to do.

Levy's books told her nothing.

All the healers that Fairy Tail called upon, could not break it.

Natsu remained asleep, even when Lucy called his name till her voice was hoarse and her throat burned.

Nothing.

One day, after many, in her dead like state, Lucy heard Porlyusica telling The Master what she had learned.

"The Magic is called Time Stopper Magic. It is an ancient Magic that is very rare and forbidden. The Magic is what it's name entitles. Once casted upon someone, that poor soul goes into a slumber. The person does not age, does not require any food, or anything a normal person in a coma would need. Time just simply stops for them."

There was a grim silence.

"How long does this spell last?"

Another horrible pause.

"No one knows or has lived long enough to inform us."

Lucy stopped breathing.

"Hmm, what else can we do? What can you do to try and break it?"

Lucy's heart stopped.

"I regret to tell you that there is nothing else I can do..."

Lucy's heart cracked.

"All we can do is make him comfortable and hope that he wakes up as soon as possible."

It seemed to take forever, but they finally left. And, after only a few moments, cries and shouts of anguish and disbelief filled her ears.

The Guild had gotten the news that nobody had wanted.

Lucy, her eyes filled with tears, and with her body trembling, slowly bent forward, and wrapped her shaking arms around Natsu's frozen form. Tears made glistening tracks down her cheeks but she didn't have the strength to wipe them away.

She just held him.

Her lips trembled as she whispered words only for him to hear. The words seeped into the walls of the infirmary and settled over Natsu.
Maybe...just maybe...he heard it.

"So...Dream on, Natsu," a tear fell onto his still cheek. "And remember,"
Lucy Heartfilia whispered as she touched her forehead to his.
"I'll be here when you awaken."

****

But she wasn't.

None of them were.

When Natsu awakened from his long slumber. He was met with nothing but darkness. Along with an empty, long forgotten Guild building, and a broken heart.

The only thing that was left, was a simple, mold eaten letter.
Addressed to him.
And, when his shaking fingers unsealed the letter, and as his watery eyes read the beautifully written letter.
He knew who it was from.
From the delicate handwriting to the words that had been oh so carefully thought out.

If he closed his eyes and imagined...
Natsu could almost hear her laughter.
He always did love her laugh...

Tears dripped from his cheeks and splashed onto the letter that was his only source left of her light. His body shook, his sobs ringing in his ears, and he could feel his heart in his chest breaking.
Then it shattered.
Along with the rest of him.
As the letter floated to the ground, the old building, that used to hold such fun memories, was engulfed in it's last surviving Member's screams of agony.

For Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail would spend the rest of his much to long awakening, all alone.

With only the shell of a promise to keep him going.

The Letter

Natsu,

They say that you won't wake up for a while...Natsu....that's okay. I know you will wake up. Maybe not now or for a long while, but I just know you will. You are stubborn like that. You are so strong and I know you will beat this. You always find a way. Even if that way is the hardest and darkest path to take, I know you'll take it. When you wake up, I want you to tell me all about the dreams you had, I bet they are going to be amazing. But not as amazing as when you finally open your eyes.

So, dream on, Natsu.

I'll be here when you awaken.

No matter how long that shall be.
