28. Little Demon

"Do you know what's weird?" Storm asked out aloud as the group weaved their way through town.

"The fact you're not wearing a shirt?" Gale answered.

Storm, who was unfazed by this comment, merely shook his head. "No not that." He said. "What's weird is that we haven't seen our other selves yet. I wonder where we are."

Ultear shrugged. "Valid point."

"Maybe we're out on a mission." Hunter proposed.

"Yeah or maybe out on a camping trip." Nashi suggested.

Tracking Alexis' scent, Nashi walked in the front of the group with the teddy bear held tightly in her grasp. She didn't quite know what to expect when they arrived at their destination. Growing up, Alexis was one of the few people Nashi was actually afraid of and there was a certainly good reason for that. Nashi's walking came to a halt just outside a field not far out from town.

"She's right there." Nashi pointed to the only figure seen in that field. The figure's back was faced to the team but the scent was unmistakable.

Not that far from them was Alexis Dreyar.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the nice bubbly Alexis that they now were growing accustomed to. It was the psycho-demon-will actually rip your head off- Alexis. In other words, not the one they preferred.

The blonde haired girl sat crossed legged under a big oak tree over looking the field as the sun began to descend in the sky.

"Weird..." Gale said with a frown. "She's talking to someone." He revealed; he shared questionable looked with the rest of the team. It was clear to everyone that Alexis was very much alone.

"Okay." Storm exclaimed rubbing his hands together. He clasped his hands onto Ultear's shoulders and faced her body to Alexis' direction. "Go get 'em, tiger." He pushed his sister forward causing her to stumble over.

After Ultear regained her footing, she whipped back around and glared at her brother. "What the hell!?" She yelled.

Storm shrugged. "What? You're the one who needs to do the forgiving." He stated matter of factly.

"He has a point." Gale chimed in subtly.

Hunter sighed. "You're best chance is to talk to her before she whips out her demon claws." He ran a hand through his hair in frustration; demon claws were the reason he had his infamous scar.

Ultear swallowed before looking at the ground. In this moment, it was up to her and she wasn't too ecstatic about that.

"Uh... guys?" Nashi said scratching her head. "She... umm... Alexis isn't there anymore."

"WHAT?!" Storm, Hunter, Ultear and Gale all shouted.

"I literally blinked and then she disappeared." Nashi yelled pointing frantically at the spot that Alexis was in only a second ago.

Before anyone had the time to even think, a stream of dark magic shot towards Ultear. Quick to respond, Ultear narrowly dodged it jumping to the side.

"Tch... of course she'd aim for me." She muttered recognising straight away whose magic that was. Her now-angry eyes shifted from side to side searching for her culprit.

"I didn't think you'd dodge that one, Puddle." An all too familiar voice sneered. Ultear turned to see Alexis grinning at her with her sadistic smirk plastered on her lips. A dark orb swirling with demonic magic hovered over Alexis' hand. "Maybe you aren't as useless as I thought."

"We're not here to fight." Hunter stated sternly. Alexis' eyes fell upon him and her expression went grim. She was silent for a split second narrowing her eyes as she analysed each one of the teens.

Alexis' aura suddenly darkened as she let out a weak chuckle. "Well, that's too bad because I'm in the mood for a fight." Her body glowed purple and in the next second, she was in demon form.

Gale grunted. "This is exactly what I wanted to avoid."

Alexis unfurled her webbed wings and charged at the group. "Soul Extinctor!" A vortex of dark magic formed in her hands. She threw it towards the group creating a large blast  so big that it covered the sky.

"Dammit." Storm cursed as he tried to take cover but he was too slow. As was everyone else who unfortunately fell victim to the powerful demonic spell.

"Mavis, I hate that fucking spell." Hunter grumbled. The energy in him felt completely depleted; that was the result of Alexis' magic. He grunted as he sat up. "Is everyone all right?"

"No." Nashi groaned, her face flat in the dirt. Gale didn't look any better. He was his on his back; every part of him aching.

"That witch!" Ultear yelled angrily as she shakily stood to her feet.

Alexis clutched onto her stomach as she began to laugh. "Aw... did I make Puddle angry?" She pouted.

Ultear's anger increased and her blue magical aura intensified. "Stop calling me Puddle!" She barked clenching her fists by her sides tightly.

"Make me, Puddle." Alexis held her chin high as she continued to antagonise Ultear.

"She's trying to get a reaction out of you, Ultear." Hunter warned. "Don't let her win."

"Listen to your boyfriend, Puddle. You could never win anyway." Alexis said crossing her arms over her chest.

Ultear was about to attack her when Hunter grabbed her by the arm. She looked up at him and his face was stern. "Don't." He spoke with authority and Ultear took a breath giving in.

"We're from the future." Gale grunted as he sat up. Alexis' attention fell upon him and she made a 'hmph' sound. He continued holding onto his sore limbs, "So if you would just listen to what we have to say before attacking us again, that would be appreciated."

"So that's it." She said closing her eyes; reverting back to human form. "I suspected something was off." She revealed. "That explains why you all were able to endure my spell without falling unconscious and why Puddle over there isn't crying like a little baby yet."

Ultear growled. "I swear to Mavis, I'm going to-"

"Do it. I dare you." Alexis taunted with her usual sinister grin. She watched Ultear but the water mage didn't move. Alexis scoffed. "Oh that's right. You would never disobey your strawberry cake loving boyfriend." Her eyes moved to Hunter. "What an awful looking scar you have there, by the way."

"You know what forget it. I can't do this. Not with her." Ultear said. She pulled away from Hunter and stormed away.

Storm groaned as he got to his feet.  "I'll go after her." He said before turning his heel and jogging after his sister. This left Nashi, Gale and Hunter in front of Alexis.

"We're here because unfortunately you're the key to us getting back home." Hunter said with a stern look on his face. "Trust me when I say we wish it could've been literally ANYONE else." He added with a growl.

"That really hurt my feelings, Strawberry boy." Alexis said with a fake pout.

"I don't know if you know this, Alexis." Nashi added hesitantly. "But your mom is really worried about you. After we sort things out, maybe you should go see her."

Alexis flipped her hair nonchalantly letting out a sigh. "That woman is always worried. She'll be fine." She said. "Now, Nashi, tell me why you're holding something that is mine." Her tone was more stern now as her very gaze pierced into Nashi's soul.

The pink haired girl gulped before laughing nervously. "Oh this thing?" She held up Alexis' teddy bear. "Y-You're dad gave it to me to find you." She stammered. "B-But s-since... we uhh found you- you can totally have it back now." Nashi threw the bear at Alexis who caught it in her hands.

"Way to keep your cool, Nash." Gale sweat dropped.

"I can't help it. The girl scares the shit out of me." Nashi barked in defence of herself. She puffed her cheeks turning away.

"As for you getting back to wherever you're from, I'm not helping you." Alexis stated, her face deadpanned now.

"But you have to, Alexis!" Nashi shouted clenching her fists. "If we stay here, the world will explode or something."

"I highly doubt that."

"We're your family." Nashi tried clinging onto withering hope. "You have to... you're supposed to help out family."

"Family?" Alexis let out a hollow chuckle. "Family is about as worthless as you are wasting your breath trying to bargain with me." She told Nashi, her face as emotionless as ever. "Now, if I see any of you again... you won't have to worry about the world exploding because I'll erase you from it." Alexis scoffed. "You're lucky I'm giving you a warning." Without another word, Alexis walked off.

"Why does she have to be so difficult?" Gale grumbled watching as the blonde haired girl disappeared into the distance.

"And why does she have to be so scary when she says stuff?" Nashi mumbled with a pout. "So what do we do now, Hunter?" She asked the red haired boy.

Hunter took a deep breath. "I'm not sure."

Ultear wanted nothing more than to release her pent up rage on Alexis. To beat her up. To give Alexis a taste of her own medicine. But she knew she couldn't. If she were to physically hurt Alexis, she could potentially ruin the timeline or something. She would've taken her chances had the others not been there, though.

Angry tears threatened to escape from Ultear's eyes. Alexis had caused so much pain in her life and coming face to face with that pain was terrifying. She was so overwhelmed by her own emotions that just felt like crying; letting go of everything.

"Ul?" She knew that voice. He was here to scold her, surely; unfortunately she wasn't in the mood for that.

Ultear whipped around angrily. "What the hell do you want, Hun-" She stopped mid-sentence.

The boy in front of her was certainly Hunter... but he had no scar.

He must be the younger version, the one who belongs in this timeline. This meant that this was also the same timeline in which her and Hunter were still dating. Ultear tensed; she had long since forgotten what he looked like without that scar. The red haired looked at her with concern etched into his features. He reached for her arm gently.

"What's wrong? Is it Alexis again?" He asked pulling her into his warm embrace. "How many times have I told you not to listen to her?" Hunter rested his head on the top her hers.

Ultear froze in her spot, she didn't know whether to move. She would be lying if she said she didn't enjoy being this close to him. She missed it so much. Ultear rested her head on his chest comfortably as Hunter continued to hold her squeezing tighter so she felt his reassurance.

Hunter pulled away slightly but his face was still awfully close to Ultear's who in turn was now as red as a tomato. "I just returned from a mission and you still haven't given me my 'welcome back' kiss you know?"

Ultear screamed internally; her eyes shot as wide as they could be. She froze in her spot as Hunter began to lean down. She had to move. It would be so wrong for her to kiss him right now.

"ULLLLTTTEEAARR!" A voice shouted.

Hunter and Ultear both jumped in their places in shock from the sudden voice. It was Storm who had finally caught up to her.

"How the hell do you move so fast. I thought I almost lost you." Storm raised a brow at the scene in front him; Hunter and Ultear were tangled in each other's arms. "Why does it look like you're about to kiss?"

Ultear paled and shoved Hunter away from her. "We weren't! I was certainly not going to do that!" She denied rather adamantly. She backed away from the red haired boy and retreated to her brother's side.

"Cmon, Ul! Are you angry at me again? What did I do this time?" Hunter growled angrily.

"Wait! That's the younger Hunter!" Storm shouted in shock.

"What do you mean younger Hunter?" Hunter questioned narrowing his eyes.

Storm's eyes widened. It was best he didn't reveal too much. "Oh nothing!" He let out a weak chuckle. "I just- just uhh... remembered that I need Ultear to help me with something." He grabbed onto Ultear's arm and was about to get the hell away from there when a voice interrupted.

"Hey, Stripper! It's time you and me had a rematch!" A shorter and younger version of Nashi ran up to Storm and gave him a swift punch in the gut causing the boy to fall to the ground.

"Little shit." He cursed clutching onto his stomach.

"Nashi! Cmon can you not fight right now? I was gonna show you something." It was Gale now; more specifically the younger Gale.

"Hunter! You're back!" A high pitched voice squealed.  From behind Hunter, the other Ultear jumped in his arms before smashing her lips on his.

"Get a room." A voice grumbled. It was the none other than the younger Storm who looked basically gagged at the sight of his sister and Hunter kissing.

Hunter pulled away from the other Ultear. "Wait if you're Ultear and Storm then who are the hell are they?" He pointed to Ultear and Storm and suddenly all eyes were on them.

"Oh shit." Ultear breathed out.
