25. Terminal Hatred

Ultear was annoyed and that wasn't uncommon as of lately. The reason she was annoyed? Well that had something to do with a certain blonde haired girl who seemed to be a little too close to Hunter than Ultear would've liked.

Ultear knew she had no right to feel that way. Her and Hunter had ended a long time ago but that didn't stop the sizzling twinges of jealously she felt when ever Alexis even looked at him.

Alexis.

The name made Ultear growl lowly. You see, Ultear didn't really hate this Alexis but she didn't like her at all either. All she saw was the monster that tormented her for the majority of her childhood.

"You okay there, Ul?" Gale asked snapping Ultear from her thoughts. She winced before shaking her head and turning to face Gale.

"Of course I am." Ultear answered with a forced smile. She leaned back into her seat.

Her and Gale sat in a booth together waiting for the others to come. Storm was Mavis knows where while Nashi was probably sleeping in like she usually does. Hunter... well Hunter was at the bar talking to Alexis.

Gale raised a brow at Ultear. "Cause it looked like you were glaring at Alexis again." He said sipping his drink; his eyes stayed trained in Ultear though as he watched her reaction.

Ultear scoffed. "I was not AT ALL looking at her." She crossed her arms over her chest and puffed her cheeks.

"Ya know, if you talked to Alexis, you'd see that she's a totally different person and maybe you'd like her." Gale suggested. At first he was iffy about the new Alexis but as time progressed, he came to realise that she was just as bubbly and loveable as her mother.

"I guess it's not as easy for me as it is for you guys." Ultear grumbled. Her eyes travelled back to Hunter and Alexis. Alexis was patting him on the head like a puppy while Hunter glared at her. Ultear groaned. "I just sense something off about her."

Gale frowned. "Don't you think you're being a little bias?"

"No." Ultear answered curtly. "There's definitely something that girl isn't telling us."

Gale sighed. "Okay whatever you say."

Suddenly loud yelling filled the guild hall making both Ultear and Gale roll their eyes.

"Oh Mavis, when will those two grow up?" Ultear mumbled.

Storm and Nashi - like usual - were arguing very loudly. How did those two end up coming to the guild at the exact same time? Ultear had no idea but now she had to unfortunately endure yet another Storm/Nashi argument. She was probably going to lose a couple brain cells.

"You should just shut your stupid face, stripper." Nashi growled at Storm as they approached Gale and Ultear.

"I wasn't even talking to you in the first place, Flame Brain!" Storm responded glaring at the pink haired girl.

"I really don't care. You still have a stupid face." Nashi said with a smug look on her face. She slid onto the seat to Gale making him shift to the side a little bit.

Storm just growled under his breath clenching his fists by his sides. He took a deep breath shoving all the anger he was feeling down so he didn't explode. Nashi had some sort of infuriating ability which allowed her to get on his nerves. Storm planted himself next to Ultear.

"What mission we doing?" Nashi said with her usual chipper attitude.

Gale shrugged. "No one's picked one yet." He said. "Maybe Hunter has one in mind."

As if on cue, Hunter approached the group, Alexis by his side. Storm scooted over making space for Alexis to sit next to him while Nashi did the same for Hunter.

"Hey, Hunter What mission are we doing huh? I'm eager for another fight. For some reason, Stripper has been boring." Nashi said side glancing Storm.

Storm rolled his eyes. "It's called having self control, you should try it sometimes, Flame Brain." He stated with a straight dead panned face. After saying that, he laid his head flat on the table. He seemed a bit out of it ever since the sleepover.

"Aw is someone still heart broken?" Alexis frowned and gave Storm a little hug. When Storm didn't pull away, Alexis took that as a yes. That Quinn girl certainly did a number on him. If Alexis ever saw the girl, let's just say she'd give her a VERY stern talking to.

Ultear resisted the urge to gag at the fact Alexis was hugging her brother. Something in Ultear just wanted to pry Alexis' hands from Storm and shove her off the chair... of course she didn't, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't actually enjoy the thought.

Hunter cleared his throat gaining everyone's attention. "I was thinking since you did pretty good in the last mission - fighting wise - that you could pick the next mission." He said to Nashi. As the words left Hunter's mouth, Nashi's eyes immediately lit up.

"YES!" She cheered.

Gale and Storm both groaned.

"Mavis, are you kidding Hunter?" Gale growled.

Nashi gasped and looked very offended. "What's that supposed to mean?" She questioned Gale.

"It means you pick the worst ones." Storm answered for Gale.

"I do not."

"You always choose the prophecy ones." Gale said followed by yet another groan.

"What's so wrong with that?" Ultear asked. She didn't see a problem.

Gale ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "With prophecies, there's always a catch and someone always ends up getting cursed." He explained.

Ultear made an 'o' sound.

Hunter shrugged his shoulders. "Nashi earned it and she gets to pick whatever she wants." He said.

"Easy for you to say, you didn't have a giant fucking mushroom growing out your head for a week, Hunter." Storm snarled.

Ultear sweat dropped. "I have missed out on way too many good stories, I swear." She pouted to herself with a disappointed look on her face.

"Maybe things will be different now that there's six of us." Gale said looking on the bright side which was pretty unusual for him.

"Six?" Ultear questioned.

"Well duh, with you and Alexis joining the team, it's six." Nashi pointed out.

A smile adorned Alexis face. The feeling of being part of the team was pretty damn satisfying for her. Though Ultear didn't look as ecstatic.

"Since when was she-" Ultear stopped herself for a second and let out a growl. "I'll be back in a little bit." She stood to her feet and stomped away. Alexis' smile faded and sadness washed over her features.

"Ultear can certainly hold a grudge." Gale sighed.

"You could say that again." Storm muttered.

"Nashi, go pick the mission." Hunter ordered. "Remember it's whatever you want."

Nashi nodded eagerly and launched onto her feet before racing to the request board.

Hunter started to stand up. "Now, I should probably talk to Ulte-"

"No I'll talk to her." Alexis interjected. "I think this something we need to sort out between us girls." She took a deep breath. To be honest, Alexis was feeling pretty terrified but if she was going to hang out with the group more, her and Ultear had to at least be somewhat of friends too.

Hunter sighed. "Yeah maybe that is the best thing to do."

"It really isn't but okay." Storm mumbled knowing his sister too well.

Alexis just sucked it up and rose to her feet. "If I'm not back in ten minutes, look for me." She looked all three boys dead straight in the eyes individually. She took another deep breath before whipping around and heading in the direction Ultear had gone in.

"1000 Jewel says Ultear loses her shit." Storm said as he watched Alexis walk away.

Hunter rolled his eyes. "Just go back to moping about your love life, Storm."

___________

Alexis followed Ultear all the way into the bustling streets of Magnolia. Where was Ultear going? Alexis really had no idea but she was determined to settle things with Ultear once and for all.

"Why are you following me?" Ultear yelled as she glared at the blonde haired girl who was trailing behind her.

"I just want to sort things out." Alexis said. She squeezed past the townspeople. She picked up the pace a little as Ultear started to go further away. "Ultear! Please slow down! I can't exactly keep up with you!"

"That's the point." Ultear mumbled. She didn't bother to slow down.

After about a minute of running after Ultear, Alexis had finally caught up. She snatched Ultear's wrist into her hand and stopped the girl from moving any further. In the middle of a busy walk way, the girls stood unmoving. Some pedestrians didn't really like that but Alexis didn't care much in that moment. All that mattered was Ultear.

"For Mavis sake, what do you want?" Ultear snapped.

"Is there anything I could do to make you not hate me?" Alexis questions clearly frustrated.

"How about not coming on the mission?" Ultear suggested. When Alexis didn't say anything, Ultear rolled her eyes. "Then I guess you can't do anything."

Ultear was about to walk away when Alexis stopped her once again.

"Ultear, why do you hate me?" Alexis asked softly.

Something about that question made the anger in Ultear erupt. There were so many reasons why she hated Alexis. But the fact that Alexis 'forgot' everything, somehow made her innocent to every single thing she'd done. And it pissed Ultear off.

"Why do I hate you?" Ultear laughed hollowly. "You're a monster, Alexis. You'll always be a monster." She hissed glaring at the blonde haired girl in front of her. Ultear continued, venom laced in her voice. "You may act like an innocent angel now but I know what you truly are. You are and always will be a monster. The fact that Hunter - of all people - can't see that is beyond me."

The words cut deep into Alexis, her stomach dropped. She clenched her fists together, her eyes glued to the ground. What Ultear said was all too familiar; Lucifer had said the same thing to her not long ago. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes.

She didn't want to be monster. She didn't want to be hated. But what if she deserved it?

Ultear had finally let out what she had thought from the start. Horrible people like Alexis didn't change. And yet, instead of feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders, all Ultear felt was nothing but dread and regret fill her gut.

Alexis used her forearm to wipe the few tears which escaped her eyes. She breathed in shakily and looked up at Ultear.

"If that's how you really feel, I won't go on the mission." Alexis said with a soft sniffle.

The fact that Alexis didn't respond with equal venom and hostility made Ultear feel ten times worst.

"Although, I do hope, Ultear..." Alexis started fidgeting with her hair, her voice becoming even quieter and almost fragile.  "... that maybe one day you and I could be friends."

Word of advice: if you have an eight week long assignment, do not leave it until you only have  one week left to start it

omg but please tell me why I could write this 2000 word chapter in 2 hours but can't write my 400 word biology assignment that I've had for three weeks?

Anyways, Ultear is a bit of a b-word here but I think she's being perfectly reasonable. Let's just say Alexis was completely merciless on her when they were growing up.
