19. Rushing In
"Behind you." Hunter rasped.
As the words left his lips, an onslaught of flames advanced towards the boys. Just in the nick of time, Raiden clutched onto both Luke and Hunter and with a flash of lightning was able to get them out of the line of fire. The flames narrowly missed the hair of their heads.
Raiden and Luke jumped to their feet getting into their defence positions as Hunter laid helpless against the wall behind them.
Emerging from the shadows was a man with spiked pink hair, a black vest and baggy shorts. Oddly, he looked a lot like Luke's dad. Unlike the goofy smile that seemed to always be on his dad's face, this man had a creepy grin that made Luke squirm in discomfort.
"Is that guy..." Raiden paused tilting his head, he wasn't sure what to say. "...cosplaying as your dad?"
Luke certainly hoped not. "He's creeping me out." He muttered shaking his head.
"I'm all fired up." came the man's ghoulish voice. He raised his palms and in an instant two powerful surges of orange flames erupted from them. He charged at Luke and Raiden punching flames manically towards them.
Raiden narrowly dodged the attack by ducking just in time. Luke did the opposite and jumped over one.
The man had a lot of raw power, the heat emanating from every one of his attacks was enough to make the dungeon feel as if it was boiling.
Luke felt sweat roll down from his forehead. He hated fighting against fire. You could say that it was his weakness; though he wouldn't never admit it. To him, fighting against fire was like fighting against his family and he did not like that feeling. Luke knew someone far better suited to this battle anyways.
"Distract the cosplayer for a bit." Luke ordered Raiden to which the lightning dragon slayer nodded.
"Over here, Not-Luke's-Dad!" Raiden called out gaining the man's attention. The man turned to him letting out more and more flames towards Raiden. Of course Raiden was fast and could dodge most of them but the attacks became more and more unpredictable so it became even more difficult for him to not get burned. It was as if the man didn't have a conscience or even a plan inside his mind; he was just randomly attacking.
Luke ran towards the only small window inside the dungeon. She was going to hear. He hoped to Mavis that she would hear. So with the loudest shout he could generate, he roared out her name.
"NASHI!"
___________
Nashi's ears perked up.
"Luke?" She breathed out unsure. She turned to Gale with an uneasy feeling circulating in her stomach. "You heard that too?" She asked.
Gale nodded, his face serious. "It was definitely him." He confirmed.
Nashi's eyes widened and within the next second she bolted towards the dark guild hall. She wasn't really accustomed to having older sister protective instincts because Luke had never needed her help. So the fact that he was calling after her was... uncomfortable.
"There goes the plan." Ultear sighed. She didn't really know why she bothered to make one in the first place. Along with Storm and Gale, they ran after Nashi.
Nashi approached the outer wall of the dark guild.
"Fire Dragon Iron Fist!" She yelled out. Her fist collided with the stone wall, burning flames following her movements. The section of the wall shattered like glass crumbling to the ground.
Storm's eyes widened in shock. "I've never seen Flame Brain do that so easily before."
"Having younger siblings to protect does that a person." Ultear explained earning an agreeing nod from Gale who also understood.
If Lily ever screamed for help, he would obliterate any obstacle in his way to save her. Although Nashi's relationship with Luke was way different to his with Lily, he could tell Nashi had the same mindset.
When Nashi jumped over the rubble of the wall, she heard the scattered shouting of the dark guild members.
"Intruders!"
Five dark guild members charged at Nashi with weapons in their hands.
"Fire Dragon roar!" She shouted. Fire seeped from Nashi's mouth knocking them clean out of her, allowing a space for her to bust into the actual guild hall.
Behind her she could hear Gale, Ultear and Storm taking out the remainder of bandits. Once they were done, they were inside with her.
"Okay which way now?" Gale asked Nashi.
"Uhh...umm..." Nashi looked left and then right... and then left again. She scratched her head.
"Wow great job, Flame Brain. You rush us in with no idea where you're going! We're going to be trapped in here any second now!" Storm yelled. In the distance he could hear more bandits running towards their direction.
"Just shut up!" Nashi snapped at him. She closed her eyes. "Cmon on, Luke. Where the hell are you?" She raised her nose in the air trying to catch her little brother's scent but she just couldn't. Her palms became sweaty as the seconds passed where she was standing there clueless.
"Okay, me and Storm will try to lead them away while the both of you continue to find Luke and Raiden." Ultear said. When Gale agreed, Ultear took her brother by the arm and ran back outside, out in the very open.
"There they are!" Some bandit yelled.
"Gale! Why isn't my nose working?!" Nashi shouted clearly frustrated. She let out a growl. Ever since they encountered that weird green haired dude with the swords in the forest, her nose had been completely useless.
"I don't know!" Gale said. "Mine isn't working either." He could tell she was getting anxious.
"Gale, what if I don't find him time?" Nashi raked her fingers through her hair. Her eyes were beginning to tear up as she got more and more anxious. "What if something bad has happened to him?" She paced back and forth, her breathing became more and more jagged. "He's never called for help before so I- I..." She tried to calm herself by taking deep breaths. "Why am I such a shitty older sister?"
Gale had never seen her so vulnerable. Something told him that she was trying to keep it in while Ultear and Storm were there but now that they were gone, she couldn't contain her emotions anymore.
He took her by shoulders firmly before looking straight into her glistening brown eyes. "Nashi, we'll find your brother, I promise." He declared. "He's a strong fighter especially when he's with Raiden. He'll hold off until we get there." Nashi let out a soft sob before slowly nodding her head. "You're not a shitty older sister, okay? You'll save Luke, I know it." Gale pulled her in for a hug squeezing Nashi reassuringly. He thanked Mavis that she couldn't see how rosy his cheeks were in that moment.
"What're you saying? Two kids broke into the dungeon and now that psycho flame head is fighting them?" A random passing bandit said.
"Yup." The other bandit responded. "Master told us not to worry about it. Flame Head will have those kids roasted in the next five minutes."
Nashi's eyes widened. She pulled away from Gale and proceeded to pounce rather violently on both bandits. Her hands were clasped tightly on their necks. Her eyes were fiery with rage.
"Tell me where the dungeon is or I'll melt your faces off."
___________
"Running into the forest, that was your best idea?" Storm shouted to his sister beside him.
"Well yeah, we want to lead them far away so Nashi and Gale have time to get her the two boys and hopefully Hunter out of that guild hall." Ultear explained.
Storm sighed. "Is this far enough? I really feel like knocking some heads in if you don't mind!"
Ultear nodded and completely in sync the two Fullbuster siblings stopped in their tracks before spinning around staring at their enemies. There were fifty or so bandits that had followed them.
"I think we should go ultimate Fullbuster." Ultear suggested to her brother who grinned.
"You took the words right out of my mouth."
RRIIIPPP!
At the same exact time, the siblings ripped off their clothes throwing it to the side.
"Did they... uhh?" One of the bandits scratched his head. "Just strip?"
"When I get my hands on that girl..." Another said licking his lips.
Ultear and Storm both charged at their opponents, their blue magical auras emanating around them.
"ICE MAKE LANCE!"
"WATER SLICER!"
Attack after attack, the siblings devastated the bandits who looked as if they hadn't fought a day in their lives.
Storm wasn't going to lie, he was having the time of his life. Beating up bad guys was so god damn therapeutic. He loved it. With each attack, he got even more ruthless; a grin spread across his lips while doing so.
In the corner of her eye, Ultear watched her brother with caution. Something about him was off... he was more malicious in his fighting than he needed to be.
She dodged an incoming attack from a bandit swiftly before launching her own attack.
"Water Nebula!"
Two large waves of water blasted the bandit (and even a few others who Ultear wasn't even aiming for) far away with a tremendous amount of force.
Storm was still fighting his lot when Ultear noticed something strange. Dark markings trailed along Storm's arm. She could've sworn they weren't there just before.
When Storm finally finished fighting the last of the bandits, the markings disappeared without a single trace.
"Well that was some disappointing effort." Storm sighed.
Ultear strode towards him. She grabbed onto his arm scanning it for anything out of the ordinary but she didn't find anything.
Storm pulled away from her. "What the hell are you doing?"
Ultear shook her head. "I must have been seeing things." She muttered under her breath.
Storm raised a brow at her. He had no idea what she talking about.
"Were you staring at my muscles?" He asked narrowing his eyes at Ultear.
Ultear rolled her eyes. "Why the hell would I do that?"
"Well I wouldn't blame you. They are pretty big." He started flexing making Ultear groan.
___________
"Poison Dragon's Spiral Jaw!"
Jace's foot came crashing down onto his opponents jaw, poison following behind. The man jerked back he clasped onto his chin; his dark green hair was now dishevelled and he looked frustrated. He had failed to land any attack on Jace and it was pissing him off.
"Give up now or I'll stop holding back." Jace snarled glaring at the man.
Alexis' heart raced a million miles per minute as she watched the battle safely from behind a tree. She didn't quite match Jace's deadpan and focused composure.
"Only cowards hide during a fight." Alexis jumped at the sudden sound of a voice. She turned to see Lucifer standing there, his hands stuffed comfortably in his pockets.
"I'd appreciate if you didn't pop up randomly and scare the shit out of me." Alexis glared at the man...or demon - whatever he was. She hadn't gotten the chance to talk to her mom about it. "I'm not exactly much use at the moment so long as I'm out of Jace's way, I'm helping."
Lucifer shook his head letting out a growl. "The extent of your uselessness right now is beyond annoying. You should've stayed in the guild like the good little burden you are." He glared at Alexis angrily.
Something told Alexis that Lucifer had some pent up anger against her... well the before-her that he still had yet to get over. She chose not to dwell on it but instead looked back to Jace.
Jace stood there watching the movements of his opponent intently. The man had still yet to recover from Jace's previous wave of attacks.
"I'll repeat myself again." Jace seethed. "Give up now."
"You're quite a formidable opponent." The man said lowly. His eyes raised and stared straight at Jace. "But I've finally unravelled the facade of your abilities. It took longer than I expected but I know. You're reading my mind aren't you? Predicting my every move." The man smirked as the expression on Jace's face slightly flickered.
"Since we're revealing things... why don't you tell me your name? I'd love to know the name of the man I'm about to defeat." Jace said with the dark grin.
"You're getting ahead of yourself, boy." The man laughed, he clenched onto the handles of his duel swords; outstretching as if he was about to attack. "The name's Jedediah and I am the man who will kill you."
The man, Jedediah, aimed one of his swords at Jace before thrusting into the ground with one strong stab. Jace suddenly felt dizzy; his vision was blurry.
"What the-" Jace started shaking his head. Before he could even register what had happened to him, Jedediah kicked him in the stomach knocking the wind out of him.
As much as he tried to, Jace couldn't sense any of Jedediah's thoughts or even stand up straight. It was like his senses were nullified.
"I've rigged this whole entire forest with cute little traps that nullify particular abilities." Jedediah revealed. He kicked Jace in the stomach again making him fall to the ground with a thud. "This trap is my personal favourite because it overcomes my opponent with temporary hallucinations." He punched Jace this time. "Now it's my turn to beat you to a bloody pulp."
Alexis' eyes widened. Without thinking she ran towards Jace but was met with an invisible barrier. She groaned rubbing her head. Looking down she saw shining letterings that were oddly familiar.
"What are those?" She questioned frantically pointing at them. "I recognise them. Why do I recognise them?"
"Runes. Magic runes. Similar to the one, that fellow used. What was his name again?" Lucifer tapped his chin. Meanwhile behind him, Jace was getting pummelled. "He had bright green hair... and some sort of creepy likening to your father..."
"Lucifer!"
"His name... His name..." Alexis could tell Lucifer was taking his time which made her want to strangle him. "You know it's on the tip of my tongue." He grinned at her relishing in the fact that Alexis was helpless without information that only he knew.
"Lucifer, I swear to god-"
"Freed." Lucifer simply said deciding to put her out of her misery. "That was his name."
Somehow that name brought back a vague recollection of her memories to her. And then it hit her.
"I know how to undo it." Alexis said.
