18. Rocky Relationships

Two years ago...

"Ultear and Hunter were able to subdue her." Wendy said quietly. Her eyes had dark circles under them. Jace knew why. To his understanding, she had spent the last 6 hours healing as many guild members and citizens as she could non stop; she was beyond exhausted. "Master Laxus is keeping her locked in the guild cellar until he decides what to do."

That was all Jace wanted to know so within a split second he was already heading out the door of the infirmary and down to the cellar. Saying he was angry was an understatement. He was furious.

He was furious that Magnolia was in ruins.

He was furious that he could see his family suffering so much.

He was furious that he wasn't there when he was needed most.

Jace stood in front of the door of the cellar with his fists clenched by his sides. He didn't know what he was going to do or why he felt the need to see her.

Swallowing all the profanities he sure as hell wanted to scream out, he wrapped his fingers around the cold metallic door knob and turned it. He entered the room slamming the door behind him; the whole room seemed to rattle from the impact.

In the middle of the room sat Alexis bound at her ankles and wrists with steel cuffs. Jace towered over her glaring down fiercely. She met his gaze with a blank stare.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were angry." Alexis said disregarding his obvious state of ferocity. "Maybe take a nap and you'll feel better." She added wryly.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Jace seethed, his tone was unrelenting and belligerent.

Alexis ignored his threatening posture and shrugged. "A lot of things actually." She replied. "Though you might not want to hear me talk for that long."

Jace strode towards Alexis as fast as a bolt of lightning. He grabbed the collar of her shirt balling it into his fist. "You ruined everything and you don't even care!" He hissed, his eyes glowering with hatred. "Hunter might lose his eye! Did you know that?"

Alexis tilted her head completely unbothered by Jace's words. "No I didn't." She shrugged once again. "It could've been prevented if he didn't have such a stupid girlfriend." She retorted. "But you know Ultear, she lets her emotions get in the way of completing simple tasks."

"At least she has emotions. Do you even have any ounce of remorse for the damage you've caused?"

There was silence. Unnatural silence before Alexis chuckled hollowly. Her blonde locks fell past her eyes and a sinister grin appeared on her lips as she spoke her next words. "You know what, Jace? You all - my so-called family - can rot in the depths of hell for all I care."

End of Flashback...

"Everything- I mean everyone is just so awesome in Fairy Tail. I love them all." Alexis said basically jumping with excitement.

For the past hour of walking through the forest, Jace listened to Alexis' many stories of how she much she loved the people of Fairy Tail. He'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy it. It was kinda cute to him.

"Hey Jace..." Alexis paused hesitantly catching Jace's attention. He raised a brow at her curiously. "Do you think me and Ultear could ever be friends?"

"Hmm..." Jace rubbed his chin thinking about it. To him it was pretty obvious; there was no chance at all but he wasn't about to crush Alexis' spirits. "Of course you could." He said with a reassuring grin and two thumbs up.

Alexis' smiled slightly before she scowled. "You are totally lying!" She barked. She lunged at Jace punching him repeatedly. Jace laughed at her clear lack of strength holding his hands up in surrender.

"What? I swear I'm not!" He said with a fake face of innocence. Alexis pouted knowing all too well he was still lying; she was resorting to kicking him and yanking at him hair now. "Ow-haha-stop-hahahaha-it already!"

Alexis ceased her actions crossing her arms over her chest and frowning. "I don't understand why we can't be friends." She said clearly frustrated.

Jace's features softened and he sighed. "You tormented her pretty bad when we were growing up and that's not something she's going to get over straight away." He explained. Now that Jace thought about it Ultear always ended up being the victim of every crazy antic Alexis pulled when they younger.

"Oh my gosh why was I such a bitc-"

Jace's ears perked up; someone was near and by the scent, it was definitely not Nashi or any of the others. He pushed Alexis behind him and then looked up in the leaves to see if he could spot anyone.

"I know you're there. Come out." Jace demanded.

A man fell in front of them from the trees with a loud thud. Alexis' hid behind Jace gently clutching onto the his arm. The man in front of them had dark green curly hair falling on his shoulders and just in front of his face with piercing green eyes that had a sinister glow.

"Master only wants fairies in the forest." The man grinned drawing the his dual swords from its sheath on his back. "You both aren't fairies."

Luke was giving Raiden the silent treatment. It was a perfectly reasonable punishment seeing as his supposed best friend KISSED his freaking sister. Weren't they too young for that stuff? He was pretty sure his dad told Layla and Luna they couldn't go kissing boys until they were at least 33.

Luke rounded the corner making sure to be out of the sight of passing dark guild members.

"Lukeeeeeee." Raiden whispered from behind him. "Cmon, man I didn't exactly do it on purpose." Luke just continued to ignore him.

The two boys were already inside the dark guild hall on their way to the dungeon to save Hunter. Getting in was actually pretty easy. It was just a simple climb over the outer wall and creeping pass the oblivious bandits that lurked inside the building. Being considerably short and masters at stealing strawberry cake from the Fernandez family, both boys were incredibly good at being stealthy.

"How are we supposed to save Hunter if you're not talking to me?" Raiden whined with a frown.

Raiden raised a valid point. Luke was too stubborn to admit it but he had no idea where he was going so he needed help. He let out a growl.

"Fine but after this is done, I'm totally not talking to you again." Luke whisper-shouted back. "Be useful and use your nose to smell Hunter." He demanded crossing his arms.

Raiden sighed. "Okay." He raised his nose in the air sniffing for Hunter's scent. He frowned once again. "It's faint but I think I know where he is." He signalled for Luke to follow him when a large man blocked his path.

"What do we have here?" The man boomed. He was at least 8ft tall with his bald head nearly touching the roof. For some reason, he didn't wear a shirt so his (not so flattering and hairy) belly poked out. Thank Mavis, he wore some pants. The man leaned down grabbing both Luke and Raiden by the collar, lifting them up until their feet so they were dangling a metre from the ground. "You boys are an awful long way from home."

"The same can be said about the hair that's supposed to be on your head, big guy." Luke retorted trying to pry himself from the man's bear-like grip. It was no use, the guy just wouldn't budge. Luke was pretty sure the man's hand was bigger than the entirety of his head.

The man let out a growl. "Do you want to die, little boy?" He snarled gripping tighter on the two boys.

Raiden made a face. "If you're giving me a choice between death and smelling that breath of yours, just kill me now." He said pinching his nose and pointing his face away from the man. "Didn't your mom teach you how to brush your teeth?"

"Yeah, didn't your mom tell you how to dress yourself too?" Luke added crossing his arms. He'd abandoned his effort to escape. "Cmon man, shirts were made for a reason."

"Don't you want a chance with the ladies?" Raiden said to the man with a shrug. "They don't like guys who can't brush their teeth or put on a shirt."

"Now that I think about it, you might need to start shaving your... everything." Luke said in addition stroking his chin. His eyes scanned the man. Every inch of him (except his very bald head) was covered in thick black hair. "Nobody wants to marry a gorilla."

The man was speechless. He didn't know what to say. Any self esteem he had before was completely destroyed by two preteens. "You-You..."

"Let's get this over with." Luke said with a sigh to Raiden.

Raiden grinned as he placed his hands on the man's forearm. Almost immediately, a large surge of lightning exited Raiden's body electrocuting the man. The second his grip loosened, Luke pounced on the mans head stuffing his jacket in the man's mouth to prevent any loud screaming that may alert unwanted attention. Hundreds and thousands volts of electricity zapped the man and all that could be heard was the muffled sound of his cries. He fell to the ground, his eyes white and limbs spread out. He certainly wasn't waking up anytime soon.

"Roasted!" Raiden said pointing at the unconscious man. Him and Luke high fived each other grinning down at their handy work.

"What a waste of size." Luke breathed out as he shook his head. "I expected more a fight from a big guy like that."

Raiden nodded in agreement. "Okay back to the mission. Follow me."

Luke followed Raiden down a long windy hall before descending down a flight of stairs evading all the lurking dark guild members in the process. It was all just too easy at this point. Something bad was bound to happen soon.

They reached the bottom of the stairs and there was a large rusty steel door.

"He should be through there." Raiden pointed at the door.

Luke reached into his pocket pulling out a golden key celestial key. "Open gate of the Golden Bull: Taurus!"

A bright golden light shined and in front of Luke stood the muscular Taurus with his oversized axe. "Lucy!" He cheered with heart eyes but when he saw Luke he frowned. "Oh it's just you. Where's my Lucyyyyy?" Taurus whined.

"Happily married at home." Luke answered quickly. "But that's irrelevant. Just break down the door and you can go back."

It looked like tears were going to fall from Taurus' eyes. He turned around and with one strong swipe of his axe, broke down the door easily before he disappeared into the air.

The two boys walked into the room to find a series of empty cells. It was definitely the dungeon. There was a musty stench in the air as they slowly crept through trying to find a familiar head of red hair.

Lying in the middle of the damp ground of one of the cells was Hunter. His face was flat on the ground, his body unmoving. Luke and Raiden burst into the cell rushing to Hunter's aid. They both hoisted him up, leaning his back onto the wall.

"Hunter! Wake up!" Raiden called out.

"We have to go!" Luke shook Hunter vigorously.

"I can't feel his magic energy at all." Raiden said rather panicked. Hunter had a vast magical presence and the fact that Raiden couldn't detect it all was alarming.

Luke's eyes darted to Hunter's lips. They were moving but no sound was coming out.

"I think he's trying to say something." Luke said. He leaned his ear close to Hunter.

"Behind you." Hunter rasped.
