two - a new team

two - a new team

"As you all know, the magic leagues are coming up." Principal Dreyar announced in front of the entire school. His statement was met by a cheering uproar of excited teenagers. "Now give a warm welcome to our male and female champions of last year!"

The cheering became even louder as the Fernandez twins, Rose and Hunter, walked to the podium next to Laxus. Rose flashed the crowd with a reluctant smile while Hunter kept a stern face letting a huff of air out.

"The Magic League Committee has decided to no longer have have separate competitions for boys and girls." Laxus continued causing the crowd to hush in curiosity. "Representing Fairy Tail High in this year's magic leagues will be a team of five mages so if you hear your name please come to the front."

"Nashi Dragneel, Alexis Dreyar, Gale Redfox and finally as a reserve... Storm Fullbuster."

Alexis, being just in front of the podium, was the first to walk up; taking her spot next to Rose. Meanwhile, Nashi rose to her feet with a smug grin on her face before proudly strutting next to Hunter. If sound came from his mouth, Gale would have most likely let out a growl. He was in the middle of his book. Hearing his name caused Storm to blink in confusion. The two boys walked up with even more reluctance than Rose and Hunter had.

When all six teens were assembled into a line, the school gave them a rowdy round of applause. They didn't know it yet but this team would change the course of their senior year forever.

"I'm going to address the elephant in the room and ask why this he is in the team?" Nashi said pointing straight at Storm who rolled his eyes.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with this egotistical flame brain." Storm added gesturing back at Nashi. She glared at him crossing her arms over her chest. "I haven't done magic leagues since freshman year. Let alone fighting someone."

The newly-made team were sent into the Principal's office for further information on the Magic League Competition.

"I recommended him." Hunter stated leaning on the wall. "If you have a problem Nashi, then talk to me." His voice was rough and came off as more of a threat.

Nashi puffed her cheeks and turned her head away. Storm just shrugged, suddenly pleased with the situation. He was glad that Hunter had just shut down the loud-mouthed nuisance.

"I have a Student Council Meeting on in 10 minutes." Rose said looking anxiously at the clock and tapping her foot after each passing second. She suddenly felt something hit her head. She looked down and saw an paper aeroplane with the words 'open me' writing on it.

No one cares about the meeting.
- Gale

Rose frowned and shot Gale a glare. He just smirked back at her smugly before returning to his book.

"Next time Erika bothers you, don't ask me for help." Rose said. Gale's eyes shot open and he shook his head. He clasped both is hands together and looked as if he was pleading for her to change her mind.

"You two would make a cute couple." Alexis suddenly voiced looking at the two with heart shaped eyes. Both Rose and Gale became flustered with red coloured cheeks.

Storm shrugged. "I can see it." He agreed. Gale glared at him.

"Really cause I don't." Hunter said rather harshly. Nashi raised her brow at him.

"What's got you so moody, strawberry boy?" She asked. Hunter glowered with suppressed anger while clenching his jaw. "I-I mean, Hunter..." Nashi corrected with a nervous smile.

Alexis looked at him, eyes filled with concern. Hunter glanced at her for a slight second before quickly looking away. He let out a low growl.

"Mind your own business." He said lowly.

"Don't worry Nashi, he's normally a douche." Rose cut in side glancing her brother who rolled his eyes in return. She walked over to Nashi and patted her on the shoulder reassuringly.

The office door opened and the Principal walked in.

"Great timing, dad." Alexis murmured with a sigh.

Laxus sat down in his seat. "I'm getting right down to it." He announced looking at everyone with an intense gaze. "Everyday after school, you'll all be attending an extra class taught by me." He said blunted.

Rose's mouth hung open in shock. "I-I have other extra curricular classes that I must attend on every day of the week so I can't." She explained. "Not to mention my other commitments to school council and volunteering at the animal shelter." She ran her fingers through her scarlet hair in frustration. "I can't possibly-"

"I've spoken to all your teachers and you're not participating in any extra curricular subjects this year." Laxus interrupted with a stern voice.  "You're only concern is Student Council."

"B-But..."

"You'll get a chance to relax for once." Alexis added reassuring her best friend. "You have too much on your plate at the moment, Rosey. You need a break."

Rose slumped onto the couch on the side of the office with defeat. "I suppose you're right."

"Hey I got things to do after school too." Nashi raised her voice catching Laxus' attention. Laxus sighed.

"Like what? You do no extra curricular subjects whatsoever." He replied to her. He paused for a moment rubbing his chin. "Though that's no what your parents think." He raised a brow at Nashi who's face went red.

"I don't do anything bad okay?" She defended looking away. "A-And it's very much legal so don't get any negative ideas in their heads, Dreyar!"

Laxus looked her in the eyes with hard stare. "If you don't attend every single one of these classes, I will tell your parents the truth." He threatened. "Mavis help you if your mother finds out." He muttered. Laxus knew all too well what Lucy Dragneel was like when she was angry.

"Do I really need to be there? After all, I'm just a reserve." Storm questioned. He gestured to the others around them. "They're all the best fighters the school has to offer so it's not like any of them are going to get injured." He explained.

"You're not getting out of this." Laxus said. Storm sighed looking down at the ground. "Besides in order for all competitors to compete, they have to have an average grade of at least a C+."

"So how does that effect me? I get A's." Storm frowned tilting his head in confusion. Nashi seemed to go pale.

"You'll be tutoring Miss Dragneel."

"WHAT?" Storm practically yelled. "I can't tutor a lost cause!"

Nashi gasped. "I am not a lost cause!" She tried to lunge at Storm but Alexis restrained her.

"Nashi, punching him won't do you any good." Alexis said as she struggled against the pink haired girl's strength. She then looked at her dad. "Maybe it's best if I maybe tutor her. The two of them obviously don't get along."

Laxus shook his head. "I already have a job for you and Hunter."

"Me and Hunter..." Her voice trailed off.

"Storm, you're tutoring Nashi whether you like it or not." Laxus ordered in a tone that everyone knew not to question. Storm just grunted clenching his fists by his side. Laxus turned his attention to Hunter and Gale. "Any objections?"

Gale shrugged. He did nothing after school so it didn't bother him. Although, it meant he couldn't pick up his little sister from school anymore. Hunter didn't seem to mind either.

"So you're teaching the class?" Hunter said to which Laxus curtly nodded. "What are you teaching us exactly?"

Laxus' lips curled into a smirk. "I'm going to teach you how to obliterate the competition."

After the meeting with the Principal, the boys and girls went their separate ways with each other. Rose had already run off to the student council meeting before even saying goodbye leaving Nashi and Alexis walking together.

"Hey, Lexi, do you think I'll graduate this year?" Nashi asked the blonde haired girl. She looked down at the ground with a sigh.

"Of course you will, Nashi." Alexis answered as if Nashi's question was absurd. "If this is about what Storm said..."

"What if he's right?" Nashi suddenly said ceasing her steps. Alexis looked at her and frowned. "He said I wouldn't be able to graduate and I'm failing 3 of my subjects so he could be right." The pink haired girl crossed her arms and pouted while Alexis just sighed.

"I think you should focus on proving him wrong." She said. "Proving him wrong will be like..." Alexis tapped her chin thinking of something that would appeal to Nashi. "...giving him a good knock out punch to the face."

Nashi's face suddenly lit up. "It totally will!" She hugged Alexis rather aggressively. "Thanks, Lexi. You know just what to say!"

She ran off into the corridors. Alexis shrugged wondering what the girl was going to do. She was heading out the front doors when she saw Justin Lates hiding behind the bushes. She walked to him.

"Why aren't you at Blue Pegasus, huh?" Alexis asked the boy. He rose from his hiding spot and dusted off his outfit.

"Can't I visit my favourite girl?" Justin asked smoothly.

"Not on a school day, you can't." She responded curtly.

"Cmon, one date, Lexi. I promise you will not be disappointed." Justin pleaded.

"I'll say what I did in middle school." Alexis said with her hands on her hips. "No."

"I guarantee when we're older I'll be your second husband." He decreed. Alexis could've sworn it looked like he sparkling in the sun. It was a weird thing that happen with all Blue Pegasus students.

"What happened to my first one?" She asked with an amused smile. She raised her brow waiting for his reply.

"Nothing you can prove, sweetheart." He responded smoothly crossing his arms. Alexis stared at him with disbelief before bursting out in laughter. Justin looked at her and couldn't help but smile. He noticed hair had falling in front of her face. On instinct, he reached for it and tucked it neatly behind her ear.

Alexis' laughs faded as she stared up into his green eyes. A feeling of dread seemed to rise up in her. She pulled away. "You should go back to your school."

Justin bit his lip. "Yeah I... I should."

The boys were nearly out the entrance of the school. They had taken a detour to the library because Gale insisted on getting him a new book.

"I am not and will not be tutoring that- that sorry excuse of a human being." Storm complained face palming. Gale handed him a piece of paper.

Get over it. What the Principal says always goes. Unless you want to get electrocuted.

Storm scrunched the piece of paper and threw it away. "Whatever."

"Ooooo Gale! How nice to see you!" Gale froze at the sound of the voice. He wished that Rose was here to shoo the vile snake away. "I take being called a snake a compliment by the way." He puffed his cheeks and looked into her violet eyes. Erika. Beside her was her best friend, Bianca Groh.

"Hey Hunter." Bianca greeted. Hunter smiled back at her. They were some-what friends. They'd talked a bit in English but that was kinda all. She was good company. "Congratulations on representing the school."

"Thanks." Hunter said. He noticed her cheeks slightly turn pink as she desperately tried to hide it.

"I-umm... I wanted to give you this." Bianca handed him a piece of paper. He opened it up to see her number written on it. "Call me?" She said with eyes filled with hope.

Hunter inwardly groaned. He was too polite to do it in front of Bianca. She was his friend and a person he could talk to...but that was all she was.

A friend.

"I'll think-" Just as he was about to finish something behind her caught his eye. In the distance he saw Alexis with Justin Lates. She was smiling at him while he tucked a hair behind her ear. Hunter shook his head and looked back at Bianca. "Yeah. I'll call you." He said gruffly stuffing the piece of paper into his pocket.

"Erika, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to talk to you." Storm said to the girl. Gale had used him as a human barrier from Erika.

Erika had the tendency to invade minds and expose your secrets. Gale was her favourite one to annoy because she was the only one who knew what was going on in that head of his.

"I know he doesn't! That's what makes it fun!" Erika laughed trying to reach for Gale.

"Sorry about her." Bianca quickly grabbed her best friend by the arm and dragged her away.

"This isn't over Redfox!"

Gale breathed out in relief. Storm straightened up his shirt. "Next time, run." The Fullbuster growled with annoyance.
