five - the first fight pt 1
five - the first fight pt 1
"The first practice match is coming up and I know you're all itching to find out which one of you are fighting tomorrow." Laxus said rubbing his hands together with an excited grin. Unfortunately the teens in front of him didn't share his enthusiasm.
"I honestly couldn't care less." Storm responded nonchalantly, a bored expression on his face. Gale nodded in agreement.
"Can we just get this on, I have somewhere I have to be." Hunter demanded. He clutched his phone in his hand constantly tapping his foot impatiently. Rose rolled her eyes at her brother.
The only one that seemed to actually be excited was Nashi who was fidgeting in her spot in anticipation for Laxus' announcement. She was just about itching to fight someone. Especially after all the hours of training she put in to this competition.
"I'm assuming it won't be me or Hunter seeing as we're going on your little spy mission." Alexis said to which her father nodded.
"Keep in mind, the practice matches don't count towards the actual magic leagues; they're only there so teams can get a feel for the competition early on and know how to prepare." Laxus announced in addition.
"Cmon Dreyar just say who's fighting already!" Nashi burst out saying jumping to her feet. "That part was pretty self explanatory even for me!"
Laxus silenced himself and glared at the pink haired Dragneel. Nashi slowly descended back on her seat crossing her arms over her chest with a pout on her face. Only then did Laxus continue.
"These practice matches are a show of power so starting off will be..." Laxus paused smirking at the eagerness of Nashi as she stared up at him wide eyed. Meanwhile the others didn't seem to care. "...Rose." He finally said.
"WHAT? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" Nashi threw her hands in the air clearly upset.
"You'll get your chance soon, Nashi." Rose comforted patting the sulking pink haired girl on the shoulder. She then turned her attention to Laxus. "Who will I be going against?"
"Lamia Scale's Adamina Neekis." He answered. Everyone's eyes widened.
"Wow she's the one who nearly beat you in the finals last year wasn't she?" Storm asked raising his brow at Rose who seemed to be frowning.
"Yeah she was." Rose confirmed. She lightly clenched her fists remembering back to last run-in she had with Adamina Neekis. It was one of the hardest fights she'd ever had in her life and she was only narrowly able to beat the girl.
"Can I skip the little spy mission to watch Rose?" Alexis asked her dad. She was trying for the past few days to get out the mission. "Storm could go with Hunter and-"
"Alexis, no." Laxus cut her off shaking his head adamantly.
"But I wanna support Rose."
"No." Laxus stated more sternly. There was no room for argument.
Alexis sunk back into her seat crossing her arms over her chest and pouting; much like Nashi had done a few moments before.
Gale knew Rose needed a lot of support for her fight; even though she acted like she didn't. And with Alexis not there, she'd be pretty low on it on the day so silently he took it upon himself to help her. Only because he wanted to repay her for all the times she protected him from Erika. Not because he liked her... totally not because of that.

The day of the first match...
The Fairy Tail gym was full to the brim with excited spectators - half supporting Fairy Tail and the other half supporting Lamia Scale. They were there for one reason and that was to witness the battle of the two school's female aces: Adamina Neekis and Rose Fernandez.
The match was starting in thirty minutes and so far, it was not going well for Rose.
"Mom! I told you I didn't want you to be here today." Rose whined to her mother in front of her. "You know how I feel about you watching."
"But I wanted to see my sweet little Rose fight. It's been so long." Erza reasoned cupping her daughter's face in her hands. "Besides, your father heard it's your first fight and he flew all the way from his business trip in Era to come see you."
Rose's eyes shot open and she felt a lump form in her throat. "D-Dad...Dad's here?" She croaked.
Erza nodded with a smile. It suddenly made sense to Rose why her mom was so happy. Dad was finally home. "I sent him off to buy some snacks. Hopefully he gets those strawberry cupcakes I saw when we came in."
The pressure piled on Rose like a ton of bricks. She was always nervous when her mom watched her fight but now that her dad was there, her nervousness increased tenfold. Of course, Hunter never had that problem.
"Rose!" She heard Laxus call out from behind.
"Oh it's time you go." Erza said to her daughter. She straightened Rose's hair before crushing her into a bear hug. "I know you'll do great out there, sweetheart."
At this point, Rose wasn't as confident as her mother.

Alexis and Hunter walked side by side in silence. The tension between them was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. They reached the Blue Pegasus gym just as other spectators filed in.
"Do you want snacks?" Alexis asked breaking the suffocating silence.
Hunter shrugged not bothering to say anything. His phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket and started reading off it.
Alexis rolled her eyes and let out a little growl in frustration. "You find the seat and I'll grab some food."
"Yeah whatever." Hunter waved her off and started to walk towards the bleachers.
"Jerk." Alexis muttered under her breath. It was going to be a long day for her.
Hunter sat towards the bottom of the bleachers. It was the perfect place to sit. It was close up to the action and when the fight was over, he could quickly escape before the crowd behind him rushed towards the exit.
He finally had a break from the awkwardness with Alexis. He was going to treasure it when Malli Kotobuki decided to pounce on him.
"HUNTER!"
Oh how the poor Fernandez boy wanted to die right then and there. Now he remembered why he hated Blue Pegasus.
"MY LOVE! OH HOW LONG I'VE WAITED TO SEE YOU AGAIN!" Malli cried squeezing the oxygen from his lungs.
"Malli." Hunter growled. "Let go of me."
"Oh sorry I got a little too excited." The ginger haired girl laughed finally letting go of him. She straightened up her clothes before batting her eye lashes at Hunter. "So what do I owe the pleasure, my love?" She asked.
"Don't call me that. Leave me alone." Hunter snarled.
The threatening tone obviously fell onto depth ears because Mami stayed in her spot not moving at all. She simply stared at Hunter with a grin and a creepy sparkle in her eye. He could have sworn she was starting to drool.
Hunter was beyond uncomfortable. He prayed to Mavis that someone would save him.
And it seemed his prayers were answered when Alexis cleared her throat. She stood in front of the pair with a clear plastic bag of red liquorice.
"Malli, I'm pretty sure your dad called for you. Something about perfume not smelling manly-enough." Alexis said with a shrug. Malli's eyes widened in shock.
"Oh no!" She sped away in a flash. "Until next time, my love!"
Hunter watched as Malli disappeared out of sight and let out a sigh of relief. Alexis silently took her seat next to Hunter before holding out the bag to him.
"Liquorice?"

Rose paced back and forth biting at her fingernails in the locker room. She was nervous. Well she was beyond nervous. Her anxiety was getting the best of her. Where was Alexis when she needed her?
"Go out and kill her, Rose." Nashi shouted with a goofy grin and two thumbs up. She paused and scratched the back of her neck. "I mean not literally kill her... like maybe beat her up a bit. Just enough so you win."
Storm was behind her and rolled his eyes. "That was self explanatory idiot." He said lowly. He turned back to Rose. "I'm not sure if you need it but good luck, Rose."
Storm and Nashi left the locker room to go sit down next to Laxus on the bench just off the sideline of the circular arena Rose would soon fight in.
Rose took a deep breath trying to gather her senses. Gale stood in front of her frowning. He knew something was wrong and Rose knew he wouldn't go away without her telling him.
"My parents are watching." Rose whispered. "I don't think I can do this." She admitted raking her hand through her hair.
Gale pulled a piece of paper before handing it to Rose.
I'm here for you, Rose. Now go out there and kick some Lamia Scale ass.
Rose felt a flutter of butterflies in her stomach. The note was... sweet. She looked back to Gale who smiled warmly at her.
"Thanks, Gale." She said softly.
Gale shrugged before he reached towards her and patted her on the head reassuringly.
Rose puffed her cheeks before she and Gale exited the locker room. They were about to walk into the arena when Gale stopped. He put his hand in front of Rose stopping her as well.
"What are you-"
Rose stopped when she heard yelling... well, chanting. Gale smirked and he watched Rose slowly stepped closer to the sound.
"FAIRY PRINCESS!"
"FAIRY PRINCESS!"
"FAIRY PRINCESS!"
"WE LOVE YOU, ROSE!"
Rose looked at the crowd breathlessly. Her supporters roared out her name continuously and she couldn't do anything but have a stupid grin on her face. In the sea of spectators, she spotted her parents cheering along with the people of her school.
Her doubts slowly started to melt away. She was going to win. Not for herself but for everyone who was supporting her.
Gale smiled at Rose, the gleam in her eyes told him she was definitely not going to let anyone down today. It seemed his plan worked perfectly.

Boring.
That was the only word Alexis could use to describe her current predicament with Hunter. Every time she'd tried to talk to the red haired boy, he'd just grumble or get annoyed. He was too busy doing Mavis knows what on his phone to have a simple conversation with her.
The fight wouldn't start for another five minutes. And those five minutes were slower than an elderly woman crossing the road.
"Do you think Rose is going to win her match?" Alexis asked Hunter whose eyes were trained on his phone.
He shrugged in response.
"Do you know who's fighting today?"
He shrugged once again.
"Are you even listening to me?"
He shrugged.
Alexis clenched her fists by her side trying to contain her anger. She was never one to be angered easily but a certain stupid-red-haired-idiot was just pushing her buttons a little too far.
Alexis rose to her feet quite calmly before aggressively grabbing Hunter by the collar and dragging him outside to where they could have a little privacy.
"What the hell are you doing?" Hunter snarled. Alexis pushed him against the wall.
"What the hell is your problem with me?" Alexis shouted angrily, a dark aura emanating from her body. The demonic side of her was starting to come out.
Hunter looked at her, a growl escaping his lips. "We have to get back in there. The fight is going to start any second now." He demanded lowly. He tried to walk past Alexis but she stopped him pushing him back to the wall.
"I don't care about the stupid fight. I want to know why you're being a jerk to me." Alexis yelled clearly frustrated.
Hunter was glaring at her now. "You're overreacting." He stated.
"No, I'm not." Alexis said in a threatening tone. "Every single time I'm near you, you're just angry and I know what I said before about nothing happening between us..." She paused hesitantly for a split second, her eyes softening as she looked up at the red haired boy. "But I... I never wanted you to hate me."
Silence fell between the pair.
"That's the problem." Hunter muttered glaring at the ground now. "I don't hate you."
Alexis looked at him, confusion etched in her features. He looked back at her, eyes full of rage.
"I can't get you out of my head and it's f*cking annoying."
