Juvia's POV

I dip my feet in the shallow waters just outside the barriers. I feel most at home here with the sea life. The seaweed tickle my toes and the fish swim past and bring a smile to my face.

"You're always outside the wire fence aren't you, Juvia?" My friend Gray jumps down from a tree. He is carrying a fishing rod that his dad made for him and a fishnet from the stalls in town.

I nod my head and sigh.

"Juvia can't stand seeing dead fish in town. So she comes to see them living in the waters instead."

Gray chuckles and throws his rod into the flowing river. The wire tugs and he reels it in.

"Pity you being in district 4. You love fish so much and we have to kill them."

I nod my head in agreement.

"Has Gray seen Miss Ultear today?" I tug down my straw hat so he can't see Juvia's look of envy.

"Yup!" One day Juvia just wishes he would confess his love to Juvia. Take Juvia in his arms and tell Juvia he loves her.

Unfortunately for Juvia he already has a special someone. Ultear... Juvia has been friends with Gray for as long as she can remember and Juvia has always loved Gray. His smile, his personality and his laugh...

"Juvia is worried about the reaping..." Gray turns his head towards me. Immediately I can feel my cheeks flush.

His beautiful gray sparkling orbs...

"You shouldn't worry Juvia..." I wrap my arms around my knees and sigh.

"Juvia can't help but worry..." I feel a warm sensation on my back.

"Hey if worst comes to worst I will take your place!" Gray chuckles.

"Gray couldn't possibly do that... Gray is a man Juvia's a female-"

"Hey I'll wear a dress if it makes you happy!" I can't help but laugh. Gray always does this. He manages to make me laugh at the most depressing of times.

"You'd really suit a dress Gray." I am now picturing Gray in a white gown holding a bouquet of flowers.

"We should head back to town Fish Girl," Gray laughs and reaches his hand down to me. I nod my head and he pulls me up.

Gray was always there for Juvia. When she got picked on in class he would punch the mean girls who did, when she lost her mum he brought her a goldfish he caught and when Juvia turned twelve and it was her first reaping he hugged her whilst she cried.

Unfortunately for Juvia Gray was a popular boy amongst the girls. Everybody wanted his affection and attention. He'd had many girlfriends and Juvia was friends with each one. Truth is she was jealous of each one.

Gray's POV

"Hey Ultear!" I grab onto my girlfriends hand and kiss her cheek.

"Gray!" She jumps back shocked. I wrap my hands round her neck and pull he into a hug.

"Juvia!" Ultear waves. Juvia smiles and takes off her sunhat.

"Shall we go?" Juvia grabs onto my hand as we walk to the court yard.

"Juvia is excited for tonight's feast!"

"Mmm fried mackerel!" Ultear licks her lips. I just hope I'm not chosen as my name has been put in 20 times.

"See you in ten!" Gray kisses Ultear and walks off to where the boys are queuing up.

"Bye Gray-sama!" Juvia waves and runs off.

Juvia and Ultear are probably only two friends. I don't get along so well with Boys because I can get angry alot which causes me to thrash out.

If by some chance though my name is called out I know I wouldn't win. Im too weak and I'd be up against the strength of Districts 1 and 2.

For the last time before I'm pushed into the crowd I smile at Juvia.

Its tightly packed in this group of people. A man takes my finger and complains about the smell of fish.

Everything smells of fish in district 4. We are the fishing district afterall...

The ceremony lasts 30 minutes before the actual reaping. Jenny spins her hand in the list of girls names.

"Please don't be Ultear ... please dont be Ultear..." I cross both of my fingers and hope.

"Juvia Locksar!" I open my eyes wide with shock as the little blue head turns to face me immediately.

"J-JUV-IA!" I call out. Two peacekeepers storm up to me. I try to run out of the crowd and to my shocked friend.

Her eyes are burning with tears. Juvia shouldn't cry, I promised her that her next tears would be tears of joy, when we finally manage to escape from this living hell.

"Rufus Jenny calls the boys name.

The boy who was standing next to me falls to his knees. His expression frightens me.

My words get the better of me, before I know what I am doing I speak up.

"I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!" I scream at the top of my lungs.

Juvia turns to me startled If one of us die, we'll die together. I mean we have been through thick and thin.

I walk up onto the stage my heart pulsating in my chest.

"And what is your name hunny?" Jenny Realight grabs my shaking hand.

"Gray Fullbuster..." I mumble.

"Im sorry can you speak up?" I look into Juvia's eyes and smile.

"I'm Gray Fullbuster."

I look into the sea of poorly treated people and Ultear looks up at me. She has a look of betrayal on her face.

"Well thats it Ladies and Gentlemen. We now have our tributes from district 4."

Peacekeepers walk towards us and guide us through towards the trains.

Im prepared to die and I will do all in my power to keep her alive.

I look towards my home for the last time before the peacekeepers drag me through the doors.

I quickly grab onto Juvia's pale shaking hands.

"Dont worry I'm with you."
