A/N: here's the first chapter of a new Fairy Tail story, this one is based on what if Irene stayed with Erza instead of leaving her in Rosemary Village and Erza hid with Kagura so that she wasn't taken to the tower of Heaven.

Rosemary Village

A tiny rural village somewhere on continent of Fiore which used to be peaceful and quiet village where you could see the clear blue sky and the emerald green grass swaying in the slow cool breeze however today was a very different day the normally quiet village was full of screaming and yelling. The clear blue sky was turned orange with a tint of red from the houses that had been set ablaze, between all the running around and screaming there was a small, short red headed girl and a long dark purple haired girl.

"Erza what's happening"? The dark purple haired girl said with tears in her eyes and her cheeks stained red from their tears, the red haired girl tried to form words while looking for some place to hid the pair of them. However Erza's train of thought was interrupted by a loud hissing sound and instinctively she hid herself and the dark purple haired girl into a small wooden chest that was nearby.

Erza slightly opened the wooden chest but before she could peek out of the chest the dark purple haired girl grabbed Erza's arm and cried."Erza no, what if they see you"? Erza let out a reassuring smile and said."It's okay Kagura I'm just seeing if those people are gone". As Erza took a little peak she saw that those weird people on giant lizards were gone, she fully opened the chest and what she saw broke her small heart.

The small village that was full of life and laughing children was now devoid of life. The wooden houses that dotted around the village that gave off a very homely feel had been turned into raging infernos. After the raid by these mysterious figures the village was unrecognisable, Erza began to cry. Her home gone, never to return. Kagura was still in the chest until she heard sobbing. That was when she slowly got out of the wooden chest and saw Erza on her knees, hunched over and crying that's when Kagura ran over to her and gave Erza a hug. Erza flinched slightly when she felt someone grab her however when she looked to see Kagura hugging her with tears in her eyes as well.

"Erza what do we do now". Kagura asked with tears still clearly visible in her eyes."I don't know Kagura but all I know is that we can't stay here". Erza replied as she stood up, accidently pulling Kagura to her feet as well, Erza turned to her dark purple haired friend and said."The one thing I do know is I'm not going to leave you alone". Kagura gave Erza a small smile and gripped Erza's hand tightly but before the two children could walk away from the ruined village they heard someone yell."Erza! Where are you"! Erza and Kagura turned around to see a tall voluptuous woman with thickly braided scarlet hair, she has two braids at the front of her face that had two golden ornaments near the upper portions of the braids. The woman was wearing a black blouse with black skirt, once she saw the small girl with short scarlet hair the tall woman ran towards her and gave Erza a big hug."Oh Erza I'm so glad that you're safe". The woman said as she began to cry, Erza also began to cry seeing her mother alive."Mummy we need to leave". Erza said as the woman nodded and as the scarlet haired woman looked up she saw one of Erza's friends and smiled while saying."Let's go then Erza. Are you coming with us Kagura"? The woman then held out one of her arms and almost instantly Kagura ran to the woman and gave her a tight hug. 

Timeskip 2 months: Near the town of Magnolia 

Erza, Kagura and Erza's mother were sitting in a forest camping as they haven't got enough money to stay in an inn, just before the trio were about to go to sleep they heard a loud rustling sound. Immediately Erza's mother stood up from where she was going to be sleeping and said. "Whoever's in those bushes come out". Her tone was almost demanding and she took a defensive posture and as she finished her sentence two children came out. One was a young boy with light blue hair and the other was young girl also with light blue hair, the scarlet haired females expression changed into a look of concern as she saw that both children were wearing tattered and torn clothes, their bodies also seemed to be thin and their eyes seemed to be sunken into their heads. 

"Please don't hurt us". The light blue haired girl said as she began to cry, almost immediately the boy went to comfort the girl and he turned to the tall scarlet haired female and said."Please can you help us, our village was burned down and we haven't eaten in days". Erza's mother nodded as she walked away, after a few seconds she came back with some food for the young children, both of the light blue haired children's eyes widened and sparkled as they looked at the scarlet haired female as she just nodded and the pair of them began to devour the food like a pair of animals. After the pair had finished their food that Erza's mother had given them they bowed to her and said."Thank you ma'am for the food". The pair began to walk off when they were stopped by the scarlet haired female who asked."What are your names"? The light blue haired children looked at her and said."My name is Danny McGarden and this is my sister Levy McGarden". The boy said as the scarlet haired woman smiled as she said."My name is Irene Belserion and you are more than welcome to stay with me and my daughters". The McGarden twins were stunned by the woman's kindness, however before they could accept the woman's offer they heard more rustling and Irene told Danny and Levy to stand behind her. 

Out from the bushes stepped a very short old man with tuffs of white hair on the side of his head. The man wore a white coat with yellow fur on the collar and the cuffs of the sleeves, the man looked at Irene and the McGarden twins and said."What is going on here"? The man's tone was calm and almost fatherly."Myself and the children that I'm looking after are on the run ever since our villages were destroyed two months ago and we have no where to go". Irene said as she looked at the small man as she kept her guard up, however she was caught off guard when the man's expression turned into one of anger as he said."I see, I have a place where you will be safe. My name is Makarov and I am the guild master of the Fairy Tail Guild". Irene's eyes widened slightly as she had heard of the Fairy Tail guild and how strong they were and how they treated their guild members like a giant family and that's exactly what she was looking for. "Master Makarov may myself and the children I'm looking after  please join your guild"? Irene asked as Makarov let out  warm smile as he replied."Of course you can".
