Chapter 10
"Thank God! We're finally here!" Natsu said as he flung himself off the train. People stared at him as they filed out and I unfortunately had to just stand there awkwardly, while he started kissing the ground.
"Jeez is he always like this?" I asked Happy as everyone moved along and went their own way.
"A part of being a dragon slayer comes with many perks, but there's always usually a downside to something." Happy said. "Dragonslayers downsides is that they get motion sickness on anything moving."
"So the boat and the train?" I asked and Happy nodded as Natsu started pulling himself together. "Why not when you carry him then? Does flying not do the same?"
"Happy's not a form of transportation." Natsu said agitated. "He's my friend."
"Uh huh." I sighed. Deciding not to argue the point that Happy is an AI, therefore technically a mode of transportation. "Good to know."
"Now come on! The Guild is this way!" Happy said as he and Natsu went racing towards the largest building in the town. It wasn't hard to see the giant Fairy Tail building, from the ground, from across town. The building was huge. I re-positioned my hood and followed Natsu.
"So what race are you?" Natsu asked me, and I tried not to act nervous by him suddenly asking.
"Oh, I'm human." I said, and he squinted at me. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you asked me back at the restaurant." He told me before putting his hands behind his head. "Why'd you ask me?"
"Well, I was just trying to be polite and make conversation. I haven't really gotten to meet any other species so far, so I was just curious. Although with your dragon powers it might be debatable that you're human." I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of talking to a dragon.
We were nearing the Fairy Tail Guild. Natsu ran up to the large doors and lifted his leg up, before kicking them wide open.
"Ain't nothing like home!" He said and everyone inside turned to look at us. Nothing intimidating about that.
"Hey, Natsu!" Someone called out. "Nice going on destroying that shipping dock! You just couldn't help but start tro-!" He didn't get to finish the rest of his sentence, because Natsu punched him in the face.
"That's what you get for giving me crappy ass information about that Salamander!" Natsu told him after he landed on the other side of the table.
"Hey, it's not my fault the rumors weren't true! It's called word of mouth!" The guy yelled back, and those words were what really started the whole fight. Between everybody.
"Hello, you must be new." I heard from behind me, and I turned to look and see a tall white-haired girl. "My name is-."
"Mirajane." I said in disbelief.
"That's right, if you don't mind me asking, how do you know me?" She asked and I could tell she was flattered that I knew who she was.
"My name is Lucy. You used to go to my high school." I informed her. She was also a model in Sorcerers Weekly, a way to help get a little extra cash to players. "You graduated two years ago, right?"
"Yeah, I'm a college student now. I go to the local college." She told me as she took a closer look at me. "I don't mean to be rude, but I can't say your face looks familiar. Although I do know a lot of people. Are you a freshman?"
"No, I'm a Junior, and that's alright. I don't try to stand out a whole lot anyway." I told her, and I really didn't want her to know exactly who I was anyway. Since her sister is Lisanna. But I wasn't about to hold that against her, especially since Mira didn't go to the high school anymore, and Lisanna made it clear that she was to never know about any of the stuff she did at school. That and Mira is so nice.
"Your sister is Lisanna, right?" I asked trying to act like I didn't already know her personally. "Is she in the game as well?"
"Yeah, she is." Mira told me. "Although she doesn't belong to a Guild." With those words I became relieved. "But she does visit from time to time." Never mind. "Do you know her well? You look like you two could be the same age."
"Uh, kind of. We're in the same class, but I wouldn't exactly say we're friends." I told her, really wanting to move off of this subject. I looked around the Guild to see that there were actually many people here that went to my high school. "Gray, Levy, even Cana?" I asked out loud.
"Yep, we're all gamers. "Mira said. "Although I am just as surprised as you to see Levy here."
"I always thought she was a book worm, not so much as a gamer." I commented.
"So did I." Mira laughed "But some people can be surprising. Even my little brother Elfman is here." I looked to see that in fact Elfman was here in the game, and he just got punched in the face by Natsu and Gray at the same time.
"Why is everyone fighting?" I asked, completely confused. "Isn't it just hurting their bodies outside?"
"Most likely yes." Mira agreed. "However if you think about it, a fight like this is really more like everyone boxing with gloves on. Magic is what really hurt us in here, not fists." I hummed, as that made sense. However, I was still confused as to why. "That and getting into fights like these strengthens you physically in the game."
"Ah." I sighed as it finally made sense.
"Jeez it's so noisy around here, isn't it?" I heard from behind me and I turned and looked to see a boy that had also gone to my high school, although he had graduated last year.
"Loke?" I questioned myself. He had two girls sitting on his lap, and I couldn't help but wonder if he was using some type if love spell just like Bora. But that idea slipped away pretty easy, since Loke was well known at my school for being a ladies man. Although last I knew he had a girlfriend that still went to high school.
The moment after I looked at him, I could instantly feel a pull towards him. Like there was a bungie cord between us wanting to keep me close and secure to him. He must have felt it too because he looked up at me, and when we made eye contact, I could feel the invisible tether become tight.
'What is it about him?'
I questioned myself. This wasn't anything like with Bora, were I felt like I was in love. But more like we were connected. His eyes became serious locking eyes with me, and I didn't know what I was supposed to do.
"Would all of you idiots knock it off!" A loud booming voice came from behind me and scared the absolute crap out of me. I turned to see an even scarier scene then everyone fighting. There was an extremely tall shadow figure standing just behind me and I had to crane my neck to be able to see him. I could feel myself panicking thinking that something bad was about to happen.
"Oh hello Master." Mira said with a calm smile, meanwhile I was freaking out a little bit.
"Master?" I questioned, and it looked down at me very intensely.
"It seems we have a new recruit." He said, staring at me.
"Uhhh." I tried to say something, but I couldn't think of anything to say. I couldn't tell if it was out of fear of his ginormous size, or if this is what I really wanted. I'm pretty sure he could tell I was intimidated because he suddenly started to shrink into a small man with an orange coat and hat and white whiskers. "He's tiny?"
"Nice to meet ya!" He said with a big grin.
"Lucy, meet Fairy Tail's Guild Master, Makarov." Mira told me as she introduced us. He bowed to me before turning away from me and jumping up onto the second story balcony. I took ibn a breath to calm myself and turned back to look at Loke. But one pf the girls that had been sitting on his lap was now on the ground and the other was helping her off the ground. Meanwhile Loke was nowhere in sight now.
"Now listen up!" Makarov called out grabbing my attention back to him. "Everyone here keeps piling up mess after mess and are sure giving our Guild one hell of a reputation!" Which is very true, Sorcerer's Weekly is constantly filled with articles about this Guild. "But something you all have to realize is that any power that surpasses reason, still comes from reason. Magic isn't some type of miraculous power; it is a talent that you all have been permitted to obtain. It takes loads of concentration and focus; it is something that should take over your being and come pouring out of your soul! Everything in this world and the next are built on rules, however if we spend every second of the day trying to abide by those rules, then our Magic's will never progress. Don't let the confines of this virtual reality scare you! Choose whatever path you believe will lead you, to who you truly are and who you're meant to become! Because that is the Fairy Tail way!" He shouted, and everyone cheered.
It felt like that speech was written for me. I've been terrified since I've entered this game. Terrified of standing out and being used because of it. And yet for the first time, in my who life. I felt like I belonged.
