hate
°°°°
Things slowly returned to normal for Jimin as days continued to go by without coming into direct contact with the person who had caused him to break. Jimin was sure he hated Yoongi, those half-lidded eyes always gazing upon him with a knowing yet empty haze around them. Jimin hated the way the other acted as if he didn't care, as if he was the best person and no one could beat him. Beat him at what, however, was a mystery that Jimin deemed unimportant. Jimin, however, hated one thing more than he hated everything else about the strange boy. Jimin hated how drawn in he was to the mysterious aura of the other, he hated how Yoongi was so cold yet Jimin was still curious about him.
It was if Yoongi had been drawing him in more by not showing up, the boy's harsh but intriguing attitude making Jimin feel the need to know more. Jimin almost wanted to go across the street to the apartment where Yoongi lived and ask for him, but that would've hurt him too much to see those cold dark eyes that he hated, the pale skin and the half-lidded eyes he was so sure he completely despised. Not so luckily for Jimin, it was later that day that he saw Yoongi for the first time since he had made his apolology. He heard the small bells on the front door of his shop ring, and turned around to be greeted by the face he hadn't been able to stop thinking about for the past week or so.
"Oh- Yoongi," Jimin stuttered, his smile faltering. The raven-haired boy glanced up, his eyes not changing from the signiture half-lidded position they seemed to always be in. Jimin didn't feel the intense hatred he was sure he would, which confused him. Yoongi acknowledged Jimin, nodding in his direction as he silently walked around the shop, wandering through the small bookshelves. He absentmindedly picked up several books, his eyes skimming the first few pages of each. Yoongi seemed as if he wasn't there for the books, they were just an excuse. Jimin watched the ravenette browse his small store for a few silent moments before finally deciding to walk over to the other boy. As if he sensed the boy quietly approaching him, Yoongi looked up at Jimin's thin figure, his eyes piercing the brunette's own.
"Jimin." The boy's name rolled off Yoongi's tongue in a terrifying way. It sent chills down Jimin's spine, and he felt his skin getting hot.
"Hi Yoongi.." Jimin stuttered, answering timidly. The other boy intimidated him. At this point, Jimin felt his cheeks becoming red, with what he thought was anger. Later, however, he would find out it was a different emotion. An emotion he hadn't felt in a long time, and had been scared to ever feel again. "How have you been?" Jimin's attempt to be kind to the boy despite his so-called hatred went well, that meaning it caused Yoongi to look up from the book in his hand and make eye contact with Jimin again.
"I've been well." Yoongi's words were short and his voice cut off quickly, which worried Jimin. He knew what it was like to not be okay, and the tone and emotion laced in Yoongi's voice sounded like it. Jimin's purposefully hardened exterior softened as he reached out to lay his hand gently on Yoongi's shoulder. Even if the guy had been a dick to him, it didn't mean he didn't deserve sympathy.
"Hey.. Yoongi? Are you okay?" The ravenette's eyes widened slightly, as if he was surprised the brunette was showing him sympathy. Still, he pushed down his feelings of anger and resentment towards himself, and sighed. Nodding, he spoke coolly, his voice gentle yet holding an undertone of discreet sharpness at the same time.
"Yeah, I'm alright.." He paused, as if taking a moment to think before saying, "Thank you though." Jimin didn't know it at the time, but that was a breakthrough in what was soon to be their friendship. It took a lot for Yoongi to thank someone, as he saw it as opening up and showing feelings. Yoongi never showed his feelings, even those of gratitude.
"It's no problem, Yoongi. You definitely don't need to thank me for showing a bit of concern. But.. I do need to thank you. I'm sorry I was such an ass to you this morning." This confused Yoongi, as the two hadn't seen each other until then.
"You didn't see me this morning, how could you have been an ass to me if i wasn't here?" Jimin chuckled, thinking back to his thoughts on how much he hated the black-haired boy he was having just hours ago. Smiling to himself, Jimin replied,
"Well, actually, it was just this morning that i had completely managed to convince myself that I hated every part of you.. but after talking to you for just a few minutes, I'm already warming up to you."
The brunette said this, a small laugh beneath his words as they exited his mouth. Hearing this caused the corners of Yoongi's mouth to twitch upwards into sort of a smile formation. This almost scared Yoongi, because before having met this small brunette, he hadn't smiled like that in quite a number of years.
The two boys continued talking for most of the evening, their conversations consisting of Jimin laughing, and Yoongi letting out a small smile every once in a while. This went on until Jimin finally looked down at his small wristwatch and was shocked. It was a half hour after closing time, and he was sitting on the floor of his shop with his new friend, laughing. He interrupted himself in the middle of a sentance, saying that it was closing time and that he should leave.
"Oh that's fine, Jimin. I'll see you in a few days then? I have to work at the restaurant for the next few days, but I'll stop by when I can." Then the ravenette thanked Jimin again, for making him truly happy for the first time in a long while.
It was later that night, as he was laying in bed, that Yoongi realized that he had been too open that day. The things he and Jimin had talked about were small and unimportant, but he could feel himself growing attached to the boy. Yoongi sighed, looking up at his white ceiling before glancing out his window to see the fairy lights in the small store still turned on. He knew he couldn't let himself get any closer to Jimin, as he would just end up hurting someone he cared about again. That was the last thing he wanted, especially considering Jimin was so sweet and kind. Right then, Yoongi decided he didn't deserve to be friends with Jimin. Even if it would hurt to pull away, it would be better overall. But how come he was so attached to the boy after just meeting him? Yoongi thought he was allowed to be selfish for at least a short amount of time. He wanted a friend, and Jimin was serving him that opportunity. Maybe he didn't deserve to be Jimin's friend, but he wanted to. Yoongi was going to be selfish.
Yoongi sat up, deciding since he couldn't go to sleep, he might as well be productive. He meandered over to the keyboard in the corner of his apartment room. He wished he could have brought his piano but the landlord had clearly stated that it would not be allowed in his apartment complex, as it might "disturb the others." Clearly, that was bullshit, but Yoongi had managed to overcome it. He sat in front of the keyboard and pulled out the sheet music he was currently composing. Yoongi loved music, but he had always been too scared to publish his own, as he didnt want people to judge him. So, he just sat, alone on his apartment floor, and continued working out his newest piece.
