Forever

12. Fun, the year of the Pegasus

Dear diary,

I am so sorry that I haven't written to you in such a long time, I guess I was busy living my life to the fullest, and it slipped my mind that you were eagerly awaiting updates.

So, what can I say to sum up my life so far? Van and I are doing great, my family and I...not so great. Yes, that's my life in short.

I can't understand how my mother, my own family, could reject me just because they didn't approve of who I love.

When my friends and family were getting married for various reasons, I never interfered because they had the right to choose the way they wanted to live their lives, the way they saw fit.

I just wish they showed me the same courtesy.

Although I am very disappointed with how my fairy family is treating me, it doesn't diminish the fact that I am happier than I have ever been before. Van is a handful, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our life together is a never-ending adventure. Did I say our life together? Well, yes, yes, I did. I am proud to announce that Van and I got married.

What I am not so proud of is the fact that he has no sense of what are appropriate things to have in one's home.

Let's just say I have found some strange fungi under our bad. Let me get one thing straight, I have nothing against fungi, but I am thoroughly against them living under our bed.

Suffice it to say, he will not get similar ideas any time soon.

Ahem, as I was saying about our happily ever after before I so rudely interrupted myself, we had the most beautiful wedding ever.

I am not just saying that because it was my wedding, it truly was perfect.

One thing that bothered me was that my mother refused to attend the wedding.

She refused to attend her only daughter's wedding because of some old customs and beliefs, what more can I say?

My father came, grudgingly, but still, he was there, looking as if his whole world was breaking apart. My mother, she refused to give me even that small nugget of hope that we would be okay...one day.

Since it was a wedding between a fairy and an elf, something unheard-of, we decided to get rid of all the traditions and make the wedding our own.

At most of the weddings I have attended before, the bride and the groom had a little saying about what was happening during their wedding, but our wedding was different.

I made all the arrangements and created my special moment, ahem, I mean our special moment.

Honestly, Van didn't care much about the details, as long as it was him and me, professing our love for each other.

As for me, I cared a bit too much.

I think, in a way, I wanted the perfection of our wedding to show everyone that we were created for each other.

I wanted to show them that they were wrong in not accepting our love.

But I also wanted me and Van to have that special moment, and for it to be all about us and no one else.

We decided to have the wedding at night, during the full moon.

Choosing the exact location was a bit of a challenge, but we finally settled on the lakeside.

We chose it because we knew that the moon would be perfectly reflected on the lake's surface, and it sure was.

It made the atmosphere even more magical.

When the time came, everything was even more perfect than I expected.

There was a path surrounded by the most beautiful flowers that both of our worlds had to offer. I followed that path until I reached the huge wedding arch under which Van was waiting for me.

The arch was made of my favorite flowers which weren't picked but grew on the arch itself (what can I say, fairy magic is a wonder to be beheld).

As I approached Van, I could see hundreds of candles lighting up the path.

And Van...oh he was his dashing self...well...he still is but that night, he was the sun whose warmth drew me in.

He was wearing a pair of shiny brown pants, a perfectly white shirt, and a beautiful shining jacket.

Shush, I know you might not find it attractive, but for me, it was a dream come true.

He was my shining knight. He was shining, what more can a fairy wish for.

The look in his eyes, when he saw me in my red wedding dress, told me everything I needed to know, he was The One.

That love and admiration was something I had never seen in anyone else's eyes. It was something special, something true in the world that turned out to be a lie.

He was my safe harbor.

My wedding dress was a thing of beauty, and I think I lack proper words to describe it to you, so with a heavy heart, I shall stoop to comparing it with human dresses.

It resembled something humans call luxury couture wedding dresses.

This particular one had a long floral petals train and sequinned patterns.

Chrystal-like decoration was added all through the dress, which perfectly reflected the candlelight.

Of course, I added my crystal earrings and a crown because which fairy doesn't dream to be a princess.

When I was close to reaching Van, a spectacular moonbow appeared. Well, it was made by the fairy friends that I had left, as arranged, but still...it was breathtaking.

If you, mere mortals, are not aware of what a moonbow is let me explain.

A moonbow is a type of rainbow that is produced by moonlight instead of sunlight.

It is rare for humans to notice them since their eyes are not as perfect as the eyes of Magic Folk, but they are still there, making the world more beautiful.

Some fairies say, that even when humans do see the moonbow, to them, it just appears to be white when in reality it is so much more.

The moonbow that my friends created for my wedding was much more beautiful than any moonbow I had ever seen.

It was the most amazing range of colors, going from dark red (as red as my dress) to green, blue, and all the colors known to men, and some known only to the Magic Folk.

Everything was just the way I hoped it would be, and as I took Van's hand, I knew that I was finally home.

I knew that I finally found that one person who would love me and support me, no matter what.

He will help me become a better person, and I will return the favor.

Don't get me wrong, we will most definitely have our problems and our fights (we already have), but when the push comes to shove, we will always have each other's back.

As our hands clasped, the wooden Nymph bound them with a rope of green ivy, connecting us as one.

During the whole ceremony, my eyes were locked onto Van's, and I couldn't believe that I was so lucky as to have all my dreams come true.

The rituals we performed were a combination of rituals of many other beings, but we didn't find it any less bounding.

After all, we are all children of mother nature that were once as one.

What we did do was bring back that union in one ritual that was the most sacred of them all, marriage.

I know that among humans, marriage doesn't mean much, but for us, it is one of the most precious things there are in the world.

It is a promise. Hope. A wish for a better tomorrow.

The mere ritual shows us that we are but different flowers of the same garden, and the one closest to you will support you the most.

When the winds start to blow and you start thinking they would uproot you, there is someone there to help you stand against the wind, and be stronger than ever.

Wow, I didn't even know I could get that poetic, what can I say, love is in the air.

Mosquitoes are also in the air, which means that it is high time for me to go to sleep, Van must be wondering what took me so long.

Don't get mad at me *puppy dog eyes*. I promise you, I give you my fairy word, that I will tell you more about the wedding and our life together next time.

Goodnight.
