Fairy food
6. Fun, the year of the Unicorn
Dear diary,
You have probably heard a lot of different stories about fairy food, and you are not sure what is the truth and what is fiction. One thing that you can believe in, without a shadow of a doubt, is that our food is heavenly.
I am not one to brag, but having tried food common among other beings, I can honestly tell you that our food has superior flavor, texture...everything. Not only is it delicious, but is also extremely powerful and helps us stay happy and healthy.
I love eating and drinking. For me, those are the most incredible pleasures of life. They tell me that when I am eating anything, I have a blissful expression that they never see on my face in other situations. It is no wonder since I enjoy every morsel of food that I consume. All the food that we digest is precious and simply yummy.
Small sounds of pure delight often escape my lips when I am consuming some of my favorite foods or beverages. It's not something I can control, it's a pure reflex of contentment, and others find it a bit odd.
Sorry, I digress, but whenever I talk about food, I start getting hungry and get lost in thinking about all the delicacies that I can eat, how it would feel like to do so.
Fairy food is described in different ways, but the description that I read somewhere is the one that I prefer from all the ones out there. It says that fairy food tastes like bread drenched in honey and wine.
Since that sounds like a perfect combination to me, and having in mind that the fairy food IS perfect, these days, that is how I describe fairy food to my non-fairy friends.
Of course, humans can't handle our food. They get affected by it in strange and unexpected ways. Sometimes they seem drunk, while on other occasions, it can completely mess with their minds.
One time, a human turned into a butterfly since he got too lightheaded from the amazing fairy food. Fairies had to spend a lot of time and effort to turn the human back, which they did successfully, after hours of trying. That was when it became forbidden for fairies to share their food with humans.
To me, that is the funniest story ever recorded in fairy histories. Of course, I assume that a human to whom it happened, would disagree with me.
Besides fairy food, we also enjoy some non-fairy food, such as freshly baked cakes, all the different types of delicious berries, fresh milk, wine, brew, and so on. And yes, I do know that it is technically human food, but they can, sometimes, do something right. What they do right, is food.
Of course, it is not as good as fairy food, but there is some special sweetness about it that pulls us like a moth to the flame. And they have so many ideas about combining flavors which, whether I like to admit it or not, turn out to be very tasty.
What you probably don't know about us, is that we don't consume the food. We devour the astral energy of the food. Many humans have been visited by fairies without them realizing it.
One of the most obvious signs that a human was visited by a fairy is that the milk goes bad. The reason for this is the fact that the energy had already been consumed, leaving food empty and useless.
As you may have noticed so far, I don't like visiting human houses, but I do like eating some of their food. Since my friends have refused to bring me some precious treats, I have tried making some on my own.
Let's just say that the endeavor wasn't as successful as I hoped. It was edible, but not even close to the real thing.
If I am being honest, I thought it would be easy. If humans could do it, how difficult could it be?
I could feel that something was missing, but I wasn't sure what. It simply didn't taste the same, and I was thoroughly disappointed.
To satisfy my craving for human food, I was forced to go to their forests, and pick some berries, but that was never enough. I wanted freshly baked cakes. They are mouthwatering, I needed them more than I could explain in words.
Luckily for me, these days I have a lot of them, since Van is not as cruel as my friends, and he often brings me some delicious cakes when he comes to visit. He says that I seem happier when I see the cakes than I am for anything else in my whole life. I must say that I don't think he is wrong.
Sometimes I think that he wishes that I look at him the way I look at a delicious slice of cake, with such longing and admiration.
Don't get me wrong I love Van, I love my family and friends, but cakes...Cakes have a special place in my heart. When I am sad, they can bring back my smile instantly.
If from my ramblings, so far, you haven't noticed, I adore cakes. But not all fairies share my taste in food. Some don't even eat human food, while others prefer to eat honey or drink wine.
Although the cakes are my one true love, I do like to indulge myself in different foods and drinks since they are all unique.
My family was never able to understand my obsession with food, but I think it has to do with my superior palate and curious nature. I detest having the same food for more than one meal. Why not diversify? It gives me so much more pleasure to try out different things, to enjoy different tastes and flavors.
Another thing that I love about food is its smell. I can get so overwhelmed by the wonderful aroma, that sometimes I get lost in it, even if I am in the middle of an important conversation. The sweet smell of sugary delight can put me in a trance that many people do not appreciate or understand.
It beckons to me as if saying: "Eat me! Eat me! I was specially made for you. Can't you smell the sugary goodness? Don't you want it?"
What is a bit uncomfortable, though, is the fact that I am a messy eater. You must be wondering what a messy eater is? It's a person who does not eat in the most gracious manner possible.
For example, when I am eating chocolate cake, I tend to get a chocolate mustache and a lot of chocolate around the general area of my mouth, which for a fairy is unacceptable.
A fairy should always present herself in the most gracious and dignified manner. That is why I eat my treats in the comfort of my own house.
Luckily for me, Van finds this little habit of mine adorable, so I no longer have to be careful around him.
Talking about food has made me hungry, so I will go eat some...You guessed it! Cake!
Until next time.
