Chapter Two: Poof.
The front door to the Marie residence swung open as two people came in, immediately heading for the stairs.Piper followed behind them, a small smile stretched across her face as the two turned into the master bedroom. They both went their separate ways, one of them grabbing suitcases out of the closest and the other gathering clothes. They didn't even bother to change out of their shorts and Hawaiian shirts, the sunglasses on their head and eyes being completely unnoticed by the two wearing them.
"Hi, Mom!" Piper chirped, standing in the doorway of the bedroom. "Hi, Dad!"
"Hi, Piper!" Piper's mother, Molly, said. A fake smile was carved onto her features as she quickly went over to Piper, kissing her forehead and then continuing to gather clothes. Piper watched her father as he grabbed a few of his ties, along with some of his gloves and winter socks. The couple continued to place clothes and other travel items in the bags, acting as if Piper was invisible-of course, this wasn't anything new.
"How was your trip?" Piper asked, taking a step in the room. Her father rushed past her, heading into their walk-in closet and grabbing more clothes.
"It was nice, dear!" Piper's father, Wade, called from the closet, his voice sounding a tad bit distant.
"Shouldn't you be unpacking?" Piper asked, continuing to watch as the two zoomed around the room. "You've been gone for two weeks."
"That's very true, darling." Molly said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "Your father and I are heading to Colorado now!" Piper lightly sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Seriously?" she asked flatly, her arms crossed over her chest. She blinked to keep the tears in her eyes, not wanting her parents to see her have a breakdown. "Let me guess," Piper started, her voice cracking, "I'm not going with you."
"Of course not, Piper!" Wade exclaimed, his tone joyful as he zipped up his suitcase. "You need to stay here for school! Plus, we only bought two plane tickets and our flight leaves in an hour."
"Don't you need to be working anyway,Dad?" Piper inquired, her tone a bit softer. She was really hurting right now, and it was killing her from the inside-out not to let it show.
"I'm off again!" Wade cheered.Molly zipped up her suitcase and the couple walked out of the room, jogging down the stairs and through the front door. Piper followed close behind them, watching with teary eyes as Wade threw the bags in the trunk and slammed it shut. Molly came over to Piper and kissed her forehead again, hopping into the car along with Wade.
"Marzia isn't coming tonight, dear."Molly yelled through the window. "She's busy and won't be with you for the rest of the week. Your father and I will be back in two weeks though!"
"Bye, Piper!" the two chanted as Wade sped off down the street, the tires of the car squealing in the process.
Piper stood there with tears flowing down her face, her body heavy with oncoming sobs. She turned around and went back into the house, shutting the door softly and locking it. Everything had happened so fast, and Piper still hadn't registered what was going on. The only thing she realized was that the tears on her face were becoming more heavy, and a chocking feeling in her throat was becoming tighter. Piper went over to the couch and sat on it, tucking her knees to her chest and burying her head in her arms. She rocked slightly back and forth as she started to sob, her face becoming red and her eyes becoming glossy.
This continued for a few minutes until Piper forced herself to take deep breaths in and out, wiping her tears away. She got up off the couch and walked up the stairs, still taking deep, short breaths. Piper found herself in her room, her eyes locking on the eight ball again. She hadn't seen it since Friday-she actually went into her room once to trade her shorts in for pajama pants. Piper had completely ignored everything else and tromped back down the stairs that night, crashing on the couch with The Hobbit playing on the TV. Piper had the worst neck pain she had ever had in her life the next morning, and her head was killing her. She ate breakfast and took some Advil, passing the time by binge-watching the X-Men movies and waiting for her parents to come home. She was still in pajamas, and since it was Saturday, Piper could honestly care less about her appearance.
Piper took a step forward and made her way to her bed, cautiously reaching down and grabbing the eight ball. It was a tad bit heavier than a normal pool ball, but Piper wasn't really concerned. She tossed it from one hand to the other and her tears slowly dried, her mind being distracted by using her hands. At the thought of how she had stopped crying, Piper teared up again, letting out a sob as the ball fell back onto the bed and her hands flew to her face. Her body wracked with sobs as more tears streamed down Piper's face, her breathing heavy. Piper removed her hands from her face and sobbed once more, forcing herself to hold back the chocking feeling rising in her throat. Piper grabbed the eight ball again, gripping it tightly and holding back more tears.
"I wish someone actually cared for me..." Piper whispered, her voice cracking. Silent tears flowed down her face as she dropped the ball, hearing a heavy thud after.
Then poof.
A swirl of turquoise smoke came out of the cracked ball, scaring Piper as she took a step back. The smoke cleared and two figures stood there-well, actually, floated there-as one stretched. They were both male, one of them a few inches shorter than the other. The taller one had the middle section of his hair pink-the other sections being black-and was the one stretching, both of his hands on his lower back as he slightly bent backwards. The other had the middle section of his hair green, standing there examining the taller one. The pink haired one wore black jeans and a yellow t-shirt that fitted semi-tightly to his body. The green haired one had on a white button up and a black tie, along with black jeans. Neither of them had shoes on, only white socks. Piper also took notice how they had small, golden crowns floating a few inches over their hair, and also a small pair of wings were present on both their backs.
"Man," the pink haired one started,"being in there kills my back!" his voice was deep and smooth, almost like butter. The green haired one started looking around the room, his eyes landing on Piper and her freshly soaked face.
"Mark, look!" he exclaimed, causing the pink haired one to avert his attention to Piper. She noticed a small hint of an Irish accent in his voice, Piper becoming more curious to what he sounded like.
"Oh right!" the pink one said. He cleared his throat and looked at the other, both of them smiling. They both floated a bit higher in the air, Piper almost having a heart attack as the lights dimmed and more turquoise smoke appeared.
"I'm Jack!" the green one said, pointing at himself.
"And I'm Mark!" the pink one added.
"And we're," they said in unison, doing jazz hands as a small explosion went off behind them, "YOUR FAIRY GOD PARENTS!" fireworks and more smoke appeared, Piper being scared out of her whits. She just threw an eight ball down and now two men were in her room who had wings. How could she not be terrified?
Jack slowly floated down as he noticed Piper wasn't responding, him finally noticing the tear tracks on her pale face.
"Hey, sit down." he said softly, floating down completely on the ground. Jack's hands softly went to Piper's shoulders and he gently pushed her on the bed, kneeling down to her height as she sat. The lights slowly faded back and the explosions and smoke went away, Piper letting her body relax a little bit.
"What's wrong, Piper?" Jack inquired, his tone still soft. His eyes were full of concern, and that's when Piper noticed his sky blue eyes. She didn't even acknowledge the fact that he knew her name.
"I wish someone cared about me." Piper simply said, sniffling at the end. A few tears welled up in her eyes, and it took all of her will power not to let them slip out.
"Hey, hey, don't cry." Jack said, using his thumb to wipe away one escaped tear. Piper gently smiled and wiped her eyes with her sleeve, watching as Mark floated down behind Jack.
"We're here to make that wish come true." Mark softly explained, kneeling beside Jack. "Like we said, we're your Fairy God Parents."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Piper asked, sniffling again as Jack removed his hands from her shoulders. Mark and Jack looked at each other, slightly smiling and looking back at Piper.
"It means we're here to care about you." Mark said, adding a small smile at the end. "We're here to make you feel happy again."
"Fairy God Parents are given to kids all around the world who are miserable." Jack started, standing up and sitting by Piper on her bed. "With your parents and babysitter, you were someone who was chosen to be a godchild. We're here to grant wishes and make you smile again."
"Wishes?" Piper asked, looking at Jack. A tiny smile had appeared on her face, along with a small feeling of hope in her veins.
"Yep!" Mark chirped, standing up and floating a few inches off the ground. Jack joined him and Mark glanced at the smaller one, the taller one's cheeks tinting pink.
"So, how do I make a wish?" Piper asked, her tears long gone.
"Just like you did with the eight ball." Jack explained. "Just say 'I wish' and we'll grant it."
"Okay, um..." Piper said, running a hand through her hair. She rubbed her eyes and looked at Mark and Jack, seeing an encouraging smile on their faces.
"I wish I had ten dollars." Piper said.
"We didn't tell you, did we?" Mark asked. Piper shook her head. "Well, there are some rules about your wishes." Mark snapped his fingers and another puff of turquoise smoke appeared, it clearing in a few seconds as a book was left behind with it. It was as big as Piper's body and had to be at least a foot thick, and a light purple bookmark and hanging off the edge.It was dark purple with the name 'Da Rules' edged onto the cover in golden lettering. Mark snapped his fingers again and the book flipped open, Jack floating in front of it and skimming over the sections.Mark floated behind him and rested his chin on Jack's shoulder, reading over him.
"No wishing for true love, no wishing to win a competition, no turning yourself into a fairy, no wishing it was Christmas every day, no wishing for your god parents to have a baby..." Jack read, using his finger to follow. "There's lots of stuff in here."
"You can't wish for money either."Mark said, lifting his head off of Jack and floating back down to Piper.
"Oh..." Piper mumbled, her face becoming slightly pink. She was beyond embarrassed, and the fact that she probably just ruined her first impression made it even worse.Jack snapped his fingers and the book disappeared, no trace of it left behind in the room.
"Hey, it's alright." Mark reassured. "You didn't know. But now you do, so try again."
"Alright..." Piper whispered, running another hand through her hair. "I wish I had the boxed set of the Lord of the Rings movies." Mark and Jack laughed while Piper proudly smiled, Mark ruffling her hair. Jack snapped his fingers and two wands appeared, the small, golden star on the top of each of them shining brightly. Jack grabbed one as Mark grabbed the other, the two glancing at each other then raising the wands so the star was just at their forehead level. The small star glowed for a second then there was a puff of more turquoise, the vapor quickly vanishing and leaving a boxed set of movies floating in front of Piper.
"Whoa..." she whispered, grabbing the box and pulling it closer. The three movies were in it, and Piper smiled as she read the titles.
"You wanna make another one?" Jack asked, letting his arm fall to his side.
"I can't really think of anything right now." Piper admitted, shrugging her shoulders and setting the box on the bed. "I'm still a bit overwhelmed by all this..."
"It's understandable." Mark said, floating down and standing in front of Piper. "I mean, I would be shocked too if two men with colored hair and wings came out of a pool ball saying they can grant your every wish." Piper giggled and sat down on her bed, proceeding to lay on her back with her legs dangling off the side.
"Are you tired?" Jack asked, floating down as well. Mark floated up and sat criss-cross in the air, Jack smiling at him and placing a hand on the others knee.
The only response Jack got was quiet, both of the men smiling gently when they realized Piper was asleep. They knew a bit about her from Yami-who was basically the commander of all fairies-who had assigned Mark and Jack to be Piper's godparents. It was good to see her sleep considering she had insomnia, and also that they had helped her stop crying made them giddy inside.
"I already like her." Jack whispered, looking up at Mark.
"I do too." Mark whispered back."I'm excited for what she's going to have in store for us."
"I hope she doesn't want us gone soon." Jack stated, proceeding to whisper.
"She won't, Jack. Considering what's happening in her life, it's going to be a while before we leave."
"Good." Jack said. "I like Piper. Plus, this house actually has air conditioning."
"Maybe you wouldn't be so hot if you didn't wear a suit." Mark teased.
"Shut up, ya goof." Jack said, nudging Mark.
"You love me." Mark teased back.
"Sadly." Jack stated.
