A narrow escape

*Thorin Pov*

"Martha. She came just before the ceremony." She told him breathless, as I frowned and glanced at Gandalf and I could see him tense before he chuckled.

"I guess it isn't the best time to wish you a happy birthday then" He chuckled as I saw her smile. Her smile was breath taking before she closed her eyes and drifted off into a sleep.

"Gandalf?" I whispered as she tore his eyes away from her.

"Thorin before you ask Belle is a Fairy. If what she says is true, then she has lost her home, just like you did. But to the Fairy of Witchcraft" Gandalf whispered to me as I gasped. Fairy? I thought they were only a legend…..

BACK TO THE STORY

*Belle Pov*

I groaned and held my head as I yawned. As my eyes flickered open I saw that I was surrounded by dwarves.

"Ah!" I jumped slightly as they all jumped back slightly afraid to scare me even further. I glanced down to find that I wasn't in my dress anymore. I was wearing this: http://www.polyvore.com/untitled_132/set?id=80047981

I tried to sit up rather to quickly before I clutched my head wincing, as I heard a familiar chuckle as my vision cleared.

"Gandalf?" I asked unsure as he finally came into view as he held out my book for me as I took it with a small smile. He came and sat beside me as the other dwarves spread out even though I knew that they were eyeing us.

"Why don't you tell me what happened" He asked as I nodded and began telling him the story. How she came, how I started growing, by the time I had finished I noticed  tear was rolling down my face as I quickly got rid of it.

"But something doesn't make sense Gandalf. She chose today of all days. My birthday, when I turn eighteen. You know that after we turn eighteen we are stronger because we can fully understand our powers. But why would she attack today?" I asked him as he shook his head just as confused as I was.

"I don't know Belle, and I'm sorry I don't have any of the answers for you" He responded as I just nodded before the dwarf who was slightly taller than me, with those beautiful blue eyes walked over. I felt myself go slightly shy, as I looked up at him. He looked amazing in this sun setting light.

"Belle, may I introduce the leader of this company Thorin Oakenshield" Gandalf introduced as I gasped. Thorin as in the son of Thrain?

"Thorin as in King under the Lonely Mountain?" I asked in awe as Thorin frowned and Gandalf was shocked.

"Belle how do you know this?" He asked me slightly breathless. I sheepishly handed him the book that I had been reading that had the documented accounted that I was reading early in the morning, he flicked through the pages, before he handed it to Thorin who was shocked and he looked numb as he flicked through the pages. I stared down and played with my fingers before he bent down to me. I gasped quietly to see how close he was but I didn't move away.

"How did you get this?" He asked me, his warm breath on my cheeks as I felt a small blush creep onto my cheeks.

"The Fairy of Foresight documented it when it happened. It was in the royal library" I whispered, I heard the sound of rustling beside me as I saw Gandalf has left as Thorin sat down beside me as we both leant against the trunk.

"Most of the pages were ripped, Thorin…. I'm sorry about your home" I whispered as he gave me a small smile which made my heart flutter. Throughout the night Thorin pointed out the dwarves. Kili, Fili, Balin, Dwalin, Oin, Gloin, Ori, Nori, Dori, Bofur, Bombur, Bifur and finally Bilbo. I didn't eat that much when Bombur handed me soup, it was delicious but I just wasn't that hungry.

As night came, I struggled to fall asleep as Thorin beside me was fast asleep, his deep breathing made him look peaceful. I smiled softly, he looked really handsome, but I'm just a Fairy he won't like me like that. I wrapped my cloak around me tighter as I gazed up at the stars they were beautiful. I let out a deep breath as a soft white cloud could faintly be seen.

I gazed over the sleeping company to see Gloin snoring, tiny flying insects get sucked into his mouth every time he inhales, and they are expelled when he exhales. I saw Bilbo get up and walks around, dodging around the sleeping dwarves. The only ones who are awake are Fili, Kili, Bilbo and I. Gandalf was resting happily with his hat on his head letting out soft snores and mutters under his breath.

I heard a sound over the air in the night as I gulped. It sounded far away but close enough to be traveled for a rather long distance. I watched as Bilbo ran over to Fili and Kili who were sitting beside the fire pulling out weeds in the grass and just effortlessly tossing them into the warmth of the fire.

“What was that?” Bilbo asked in a rather loud whisper, I just sat listening almost leaning closer to Thorin. I was slightly cold and I must admit I was slightly frightened.

“Orcs.” Kili whispered as another scream was heard as I was sitting bolt right up now, I didn't know I was shivering until I felt a warm coat being placed on my shoulders as I looked over to see Thorin awake, as he stroked the side of my face. I leant into the warmth smooth skin, before he got up from his spot, as we were slightly hidden by rocks and bushes and walked forward as I could see everything from where I was.

“Orcs?” Biblo asked again

“Throat-cutters. There’ll be dozens of them out there. The lowlands are crawling with them.” Fili whispered

“They strike in the wee small hours, when everyone’s asleep. Quick and quiet; no screams, just lots of blood.” Kili finished as I felt a chill run down my back as I saw Bilbo look away frightened as Fili and Kili shared a look with each other as they began laughing quietly. Even I have a good sense of humor but that wasn't funny one bit.

“You think that’s funny? You think a night raid by orcs is a joke?” Thorin's strong voice asked towards his two nephews as I saw them bite down on their lips as they knew they were in the wrong.

“We didn’t mean anything by it.” Kili apologized.

“No, you didn’t. You know nothing of the world.” Thorin responded solemnly as I saw that he just stared into the fire, he looked almost in a gaze, as I saw Balin walking over to Fili and Kili.

“Don’t mind him, laddie. Thorin has more cause than most to hate orcs. After the dragon took the Lonely Mountain, King Thror tried to reclaim the ancient dwarf kingdom of Moria. But our enemy had got there first.” Balin began telling the story but I wasn't paying attention I was too busy looking at Thorin. His eyes were flooded with pain and hurt as well as anger.

“And I thought to myself then, there is one who I could follow. There is one I could call King.” I heard Balin finish as I saw that all the dwarves were now awake looking and standing in awe at Thorin as he walked between them back towards me as I saw many of the dwarves heading back to sleep.

“But the pale orc? What happened to him?” Bilbo asked.

“He slunk back into the hole whence he came. That filth died of his wounds long ago.” Thorin responded before he sat down beside me, you could tell he was tired from the bags under his eyes. He smiled softly at me as I returned the smile. Within a few minutes the only one who was awake was Bofur as it was his time to keep watch. I went to hand back Thorin his cloak when he stopped me.

"I can't let you get cold" I whispered to him as he chuckled.

"I'll be fine love, don’t worry about it" He chuckled as my heart skipped a beat as he called me love. I chuckled slightly along with him before I yawned and I could feel myself getting tired. Unsure how it happened but I felt his arm snake round my waist pulling me closer, as I rested my head on his shoulder, with my arm resting on his chest. I felt him kiss my hair before he gently rested his head on mine as a smile crept on my lips before I was in a deep slumber.

I woke up suddenly, to find Gandalf shaking me awake. Thorin was gone, as I still had his cloak as it smelt of him, as I gave a small smile.

“Something’s coming!” I heard Thorin shout out as my smile dropped from my face as Gandalf helped me up, grabbing my hand and pulling me after him as he had a sword drawn in his right hand.

“Gandalf-” I asked unsure as I gulped.

“Stay together! Hurry now. Arm yourselves.” Gandalf shouted out as I ran after them deep into the woods. I felt the earth shake slightly as I gasped happily. I let go of Gandalf and started running into the woods not caring of everyone calling on after me. Thorin's voice struck me the most as you could hear the fear in his voice. Suddenly Radagast came into view with his rabbit-drawn sled.

“Thieves! Fire! Murder!” He's shouting as he smiles at me as I pull him into a warming hug.

“Radagast! Radagast the Brown. Ah. What on earth are you doing here?” I heard Gandalf sigh happily as I saw the others put away their weapons, as I chuckle and bend down and stroke the rabbits, as they sniffed my hands smiling jumping up and down as I played with them. Their fur tickling my skin ever so slightly.

“I was looking for you, Gandalf. Something’s wrong. Something’s terribly wrong.” Radagast spoke as I stopped playing as the rabbits kept nudging my hand for my attention as I frowned.

“Yes?” Gandalf asked as Radagast opens his mouth to speak, but shuts it. He opens his mouth again, but closes it again. He has forgotten what he was going to say causing me to chuckle slightly as Thorin looks his way over at me. I bit down on my lip realizing I am still wearing his cloak. I blush slightly before I walk over and hand it back to him as our hands brush I felt electricity as I pulled back shocked. If he felt anything he didn't show it.

“Oh, just give me a minute. Um, oh, I had a thought, and now I’ve lost it. It was, it was right there, on the tip of my tongue.” I could hear Radagast talking before he curls up his tongue, and looks surprised.

“Oh, it’s not a thought at all; it’s a silly old...” He spoke as he stuck out his tongue as I saw Gandalf slightly disgusted pulls a stick insect out of Radagast’s mouth. I'm trying very hard not to laugh at the reactions of all the dwarves and Bilbo. “-stick insect!”

Radagast and Gandalf go off a few paces and speak privately. As I went back to the rabbits as you could tell they were all tired. I was trying not eavesdrop however it was really hard considering Fairies have extremely good hearing. I heard Radagast telling Gandalf about how the Greenwood is sick and how darkness has fallen over it. How nothing grows any more, at least nothing good.  How the air is foul with decay and the webs.

I felt useless, I'm the Fairy of Nature, and I have just been able to access my full powers and I have no idea how to use them. Maybe that is why Martha did this to me? I have power but I can't use it, I haven’t been trained or tested by the court.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Radagast lean in and whisper something probably rather important to Gandalf, as my attention was drawn forward as I saw Bilbo walking up to me, as I gave him a small smile.

"So how did you end up joining this lot" I chuckled as I saw Thorin glance over as I smiled, he just winked as I felt my face blush as I looked at the ground.

"Gandalf---" He stated as I laughed to myself shaking my head.

"Trust Gandalf" I smiled laughing as I looked over to see Radagast having a bit of Gandalf's Old Toby, from his pipe as I guess he wanted to help Radagast settle his nerves. I saw him hand Gandalf a cloth-wrapped package and he hands it to Gandalf. I felt myself freeze, as Bilbo beside me frowned and waved a hand in front of my face as Gandalf unties it and opens it as I saw Gandalf looking concerned.

"Belle?" He asked as I shook out of it and turned to Bilbo.

"Sorry. I've been doing that a lot recently" I apologized as he just nodded before we all stopped to hear a howl being heard in the distance.

“Was that a wolf? Are there--are there wolves out there?” Bilbo asked as I felt my heart hammer against my chest.

“Wolves? No, that is not a wolf.” Bofur responded as I saw him gulp. From behind a nearby crag, a Warg appears; it leaps into the midst of the Company, knocking down one of the dwarves as well as myself. Thorin strikes and kills it using Orcrist, before he helps me up and keeps a firm arm around my waist as I felt myself blush. Another Warg attacks from the other side; Kili shoots it with an arrow, bringing it down. However, it gets back up, only to be killed by Dwalin.

“Warg-Scouts! Which means an Orc pack is not far behind.” Thorin hissed down at the dead beasts as Gandalf and Radagast quickly made their way over to us, as Thorin and I quickly draw apart.

“Orc pack?” Bilbo asked slightly frightened yet trying to confirm what Thorin said.

“Who did you tell about your quest, beyond your kin?” Gandalf asked.

“No one.” Thorin responded simply as it was obvious he was confused.

“Who did you tell?” Gandalf asked him once more almost shouting as I took a step back, I didn’t like it when he shouted. I'd have enough of anger and shouting in my eighteen years.

“No one, I swear. What in Durin’s name is going on?” Thorin hissed as he glanced over at me to make sure I was safe as my hand drew to my sword ready to pull it out if I needed.

"You are being hunted.” Gandalf responded slightly annoyed as I let my breath that I hadn't realized I was holding in.

“We have to get out of here.” Dwalin commanded.

“We can’t! We have no ponies; they bolted.” Ori reported as he ran his way towards us.

“I’ll draw them off.” Radagast suggested as Gandalf and I looked at like he was insane.

“These are Gundabad Wargs; they will outrun you.” Gandalf snapped at him before I looked at the rabbits and smacked my palm to my face.

“Gandalf. These are Rhosgobel Rabbits; I’d like to see them try.” I spoke realizing as he looked unsure at first before he nodded in agreement as Radagast got back on his sleigh and started to shoot his way back through the forest.

“Come and get me! Ha ha!” I heard him cry out as we watch from behind rocks as Radagast and the Wargs disappear in the distance.

“Come on!” Gandalf hissed as we started to make our way rushing over the rocky plain. In the distance, Radagast is being chased by the Wargs. One of them crashes while trying to catch him. As we kept running across the plain, we see the Wargs not too far from them, so we hide behind the rocks. As we kept running and moving I was running beside Fili and Kili, as if they had been assigned to make sure nothing happened to me as I rolled my eyes. Oh Thorin.

“Stay together.” Gandalf whispered.

“Move!” Thorin called out on the timing as we kept running, Radagast drives his sled beneath an overhanging projection of rock; he ducks, but the Orc on the Warg behind him gets knocked off. As the chase continues, Thorin stops behind a rock so that he is not seen by the Wargs. Not really paying attention I kept going.

“Belle, no! Come back!” He called as he grabbed my arm pulling me back, his arm round my waist. My hand on his chest our faces inches apart. I felt my face blush deep red as he smirked at me.

“Come on! Quick!” Gandalf called as we both drew apart. I longed for the warmth of his arms around my waist as we kept on running. We take cover behind an outcropping of rock. The scout and his Warg appear on top of the outcropping, scenting the air. Thorin looks at Kili and nods; readying an arrow, Kili quickly steps out and shoots the Warg. The Warg and the orc on it fall near the dwarves, and the dwarves kill them. The sounds of their fight carry quite far; the other Wargs and Orcs stop chasing Radagast as they hear roars and screams from behind the rocks. The Warg scouts howl as they stop pursuing Radagast and begin pursuing us. Opps.

“Move. Run!” Gandalf shouted as we picked up our paces as started to run through a grassy plain; Wargs begin to surround us from all sides.

“There they are!” I think it was Gloin who shouted it out.

“This way! Quickly!” Gandalf kept guiding us, though I kept wondering where he is trying to lead us. We kept running for a while longer, then came to a halt in a clearing as we see Wargs on all sides.

“There’s more coming!” Kili shouted

“Kili! Shoot them!” Thorin shouted. Grabbing my bow swiftly I pulled out an arrow, notched it and fired as it hit the wargs right between the eyes. I didn't care about the gasp from behind me I just kept on shooting.

“We’re surrounded!" Fili shouted out as Kili and I keep shooting at the Warg and the Warg-riders, killing some of them but not enough, they just keep coming.

“Where is Gandalf?” Kili shouted as I lowered my bow and looked around. Where is he? HE ISN'T ANYWHERE!

“He has abandoned us!” Dwalin growled as I knew that couldn't be. Gandalf wouldn’t just leave us like this. There must be some explanation. We were slowly gathering closer together just then I saw Gandalf appear from behind a rock, that is where he must have gone. I saw Thorin pulling out his sword as it glowed in the sunlight.

“Hold your ground!” He shouted out

“This way, you fools!” I heard Gandalf cry out, as we all started racing towards him. I was the furthest away as I was running forwards, shooting my arrows over my shoulders.

“Come on, move! Quickly, all of you! Go, go, go!” Thorin shouted as the Wargs approach, the dwarves and Bilbo slide into the large crack in the rock, sliding into a cave. Thorin kills a Warg that gets too close. Kili shoots another.

“Kili! Belle! Run!” Thorin shouted as Kili and I lowered our bows and bolted for the crack as we jumped in, Thorin after me. We were all panting as we heard the sound of Elvish horns. Just then one of the orcs, shot by an arrow, falls into the cave. I jump back slightly into Dwalin as I apologized, he gave me a small smile as I brushed the dust off my pants. Thorin plucks out the arrow and examines its make.

“Elves.” He hissed before he just threw the arrow onto the ground. I quite like Elves, they aren't that bad!
