long chapter probably and no art ::(

so sorry about this but I just really want to talk about this song because its amazing.

its the bitter suite IV and V: the Congregation and the Sermon in the Silt.

the titles a bit of a mouthful... bleh.

but I just found this song today and I love it a lot.

see it starts out sortve slow in a wacky tune, but it sounds sorta menacing n shit, and then the vocals start:

youre cutting crowds to hear him speak
and youre greeted by a smile that sticks like vasoline
so do your best to keep your distance
in this instance
youre a stranger from the weeds (?)
some things are better left unseen

so it starts off pretty slowly you know, building up with a wacky but menacing tune. its building up a person who seems like a preacher but he doesnt seem trustworthy. and you try to stay away from this strange man.

commanding listeners to believe
manipulations of narrations Anno Domini
not with a whimper, but a bang he takes the stage and leaves jaws upon the floor
beginning for more

I really like the line "manipulations of narrations anno domini". I really like how the song sets up the chorus, building up this preacher who manipulates people into believing what he doesnt actually believe in.

so father won't you tend your flock and save us now
won't you save us now?
come and save us

now this is the part of the song where it gets exciting. this part is really beautiful. its sung in a choir like tone asking the father to save them, mimicking a church choir and the violin and aghhhhh its so pretty. but the music all of a sudden after that's done ramps up and becomes meaner and grittier and more terrible and the transition is perfect with the loose hook and yes and it becomes so much more fun

I hear youre looking for god
well I can show you the way
just as long as you can pay
the price is going up
and like a prayer in the air
we'll deliver you the glory (pay up!)
I swear youll get what you need
and we can lead you to salvation
with the right denomination
it all lies in your hands
or in your pocket to be more demanding~

this is where the song gets good. by this point, its more animated. its more charming. its supposed to trick you into paying to be saved. the switch in pov from second person to the preacher is good and I love it. o really like these types of songs, where it hides a dark meaning or idea being a series of funky jazz tunes.

dont you tread too close to the line this time
dont get lead too close to the line this time
you were far too close to the line this time
line this time- oh!

this chorus is good as it enforces the idea of not thinking for yourself, of being tricked into giving away all you own for an abstract concept of salvation. you were too close to thinking for yourself. you were too close to knowing better. dont go back. stay behind the line.

hey hey kid hey kid get a god
hey hey hey hey hey kid get a god

these lines make it sound like a drug dealer. get a god. like its not a life choice, its a toy you get. come one, come all. get a god.

listen you committed a sin?
well we can rid that with a remedy
it starts at seventy- sold!
for one and all
now get your hands ready to make a withdrawal
theres no other way to find what you want
its the saving that youre craving and your confidence is fading
be calm!
the doctors in
I got the candy because I know where youve been

I like the idea that the first few lines convey. you did something bad? you feel guilty about it? dont worry! just pay us and youll feel better. theres no other way to fix this. youre craving salvation. you have no confidence. pay us money. we'll make it better.

after this it launches into the chorus and one last verse:

if you want to get up
reserve a room up high
put your coins in my hat
and dont ask why

this last verse reinforces what these long is about: money. you want to be saved? pay us. dont question it. god will judge you. pay us and youll be fine.

this song is really good and I can't explain why because I'm really tired rn and I'm just not too good at analysing shit. but really give it a listen these guys are my favourite band now. like it really is all that I want.

it hides dark undertones in funky music and they use the music to their advantage. like you really can feel all the effort they put into the vocals and songs and instrumentals. like when it wants you to feel pity for someone it sounds like it. when someone is saying something evil it sounds menacing. I can't do them justice give them a listen

sorry for the long chapter I just really like their songs :/
