Chapter 9

Ema, Fae and Yuusuke walk over to the back of the room, a railing separating them from the rest of the crowd as they stood on a slightly lifted area. It gave them a perfect view of the stage. They watch patiently as Azusa and Tsubaki walk on stage, the crowd cheering in glee as they start the release. Tsubaki spots the trio in the VIP area and sends a salute with a cheeky grin. Fae quirks her lip in amusement while Ema held her hand over her heart, excited. Yuusuke glares at his older brother, begrudgingly enjoying the show.

"Tsuba-bro, you bastard..." Yuusuke mumbles, catching Faes attention. She giggles at him, causing his face to flare up in embarrassment.

After the game is released, the three of them use their VIP tickets to go backstage. They get directed around by a young man in a headset, him ushering them along corridors until they arrive at one with a removable card saying 'Asahina'. Once they enter the room, the man scurries off. Fae and Ema are hit with a heavy body, bare arms wrapping around their shoulders as the male puts all his weight on the two. Fae instantly swipes his hand off, pinching the wrist with her right hand and slamming her left elbow onto the shoulder. A loud yelp reaches their ears, and Fae immediately begins spouting apologies.

"I'm so sorry, Tsubaki!" Fae releases him as if his skin is burning coal. "Don't do that to people." Tsubaki rubs his shoulder, pouting.

"I only wanted a hug." He replies sadly. She creases her eyebrows at him, upset that he wasn't giving a peppy reply.

"I, I am sorry, really. I'll give you another hug if you tell me what for?"

"For entertaining you both today." He coos, seemingly over his injury. Then he grins, raising a brow. "I actually wanted to kiss you, but I'll hold back because Azusa is glaring at me." He laughs, earning a sigh from both Fae and his twin. Tsubaki jumps over to Azusa and plants a kiss on his cheek. "So you won't get jealous."

"Yeah, we get it!" Yuusuke barks. "You're so gay for your brother." They chuckle at him, holding up their bottle of water as Yuusuke slowly gets irritated, cheeks growing red.

"Good job!" Tsubaki toasts.

"Job well done," Azusa smiles.

"Come on, toast with us." Tsubaki said to Fae and Ema, holding up soft drinks.

"But we're not involved," Ema said unsurely.

"You're our little sisters, so you're totally a part of this. Is tea alright with you?" Azusa asks, handing both girls a drink.

"Thank you very much." Fae smiles at him.

"Thank you..." Ema thanks with a red face.

"So, did you have fun?" Azusa asks, raising a brow to all three of them.

"I was super cool, wasn't I?" Tsubaki asks, gripping his bottle like an excited child.

"Yes. We've never been to an event like this, so it was very exciting for us." Fae smiles, taking a sip of her drink.

"I'm glad to hear this." Azusa inclines his head.

"When's the game going to be released?" Ema asks, speaking from behind her drink.

"I think it's going to be released next year," Tsubaki said. "I'll get details from Natsume."

"Natsume?" Ema questions, tilting her head.

"Yeah, Natsume's company's the one that's making the game." Tsubaki's face lights up as he remembers something. "I know! I'll ask Natsume to send you a disc of the game in development."

"Really?" Both girls ask in disbelief.

"Leave it to me." Tsubaki salutes.

"Thanks, Tsubaki." Fae grins, laughing slightly.

"Excuse me, but I'm here too." Yuusuke grumbles, squinting at his brothers.

"Oh, you're still here?" Tsubaki asks, tilting his head. Yuusuke grunts in annoyance.

"Anyway, you're toasting, and all you've got is water and tea?" Yuusuke complains. Azusa throws him a bottle of tea, it hit the boy straight in the chest.

"We have an afternoon session coming up."

"We've got an important audition, so no alcohol for us." Tsubaki waves his finger. Fae widens her eyes slightly, surprised by such responsible words leaving Tsubaki's mouth.

"What anime?" Ema asks in confusion.

"It's top secret, so I'm not going to tell you the title, but I can say it's the anime that got us into being voice actors got a green light for a new series, and there holding an audition for the lead role," Tsubaki informs her. Fae smiles as she sips her drink. Tsubaki looks so excited about this, she hopes he gets the part. His energy had been up since he took her on that little outing. It gnaws on the back of her brain that what if he doesn't get it? But, she pushes it away. Negative thoughts will do her no good.

"More like you, not 'us', Tsubaki." Azusa puts his arm over Tsubaki's shoulder.

"I set out to become a voice actor, and that influence you to become one too." Tsubaki shrugs, grin gently broadly. "So it's the same thing, right?"

"The show that lead you to become a voice actor..." Yuusuke thought aloud, screwing up his eyebrows. "Oh, that--" Tsubaki quickly covers Yuusukes mouth.

"I told you it was a secret, didn't I?" Tsubaki questions, squint at Yuusuke in reprimand. "So you better not go around telling your school friends until the announcement." Tsubaki removes his hand, scowling at Yuusuke for almost spilling the details.

"R-right.." Yuusuke agrees, nodding quickly.

"I hope you get the roles you want." Fae smile up to Azusa. Azusa mirrors her expression.

"Yeah." Tsubaki butts in. "But even though I don't have a real say in anything, I just feel sure about this one."

"And when Tsubaki says that, he's never wrong." Azusa smiles, laughing.

"Wait, but you're doing the same role too, Azusa?" Yusuke asks.

"Yes, but the role I'm auditioning for isn't the lead, but for the Hero's rival," Azusa explains.

"The two of you costarring as rivals sound like a lot of fun." Fae grin, imagining Tsubaki as the knight in armour and Azusa as an evil wizard.

"Right?" Tsubaki nods enthusiastically. "Once we get the roles, you'll be the first to know, so expect good news."

"Okay."

"I've returned home!" Fae walks into the living room, her arms open wide for any greeting thrown her way. She hears the scatter of claws and turns to see Juli running towards her across the counter. He squeaks loudly, standing on his hind legs.

"Yes, Juli." Fad coos, patting the creatures head. "I had lots of fun." Fae looks over to the kitchen to see Ukyo by the sink, washing up dishes. She straightening herself out before approaching.

"Would you mind if I left things here to you?" Ukyo begins, taking off his cat apron. "I have a trial tomorrow, and I would like to prepare."

"Course, I have the rest of the day off, so it'll be fine." Fae waves him off, smiling.

"Incidentally, Wataru is the only one who has finished eating. Tsubaki and Azusa both have work, Iori is attending lectures, Louis is working the late shift, and the chart states that they'll all be eating out." His eyes glance over to the fridge, emphasising his point. "So, the rest of them do not appear to have anything going on, but no one came home..." Ukyo wonders off at the end. "I thought Yuusuke and Ema were with you?" He questions.

"They said that they were dropping off to buy some tutor guides." Fae informs him, walking to his side to scan over the chart.

"I see if they intend to go to the same college as Subaru,o then they need to study." Ukyo smiles, a relieved sigh passing his lips. "I'm relieved Yusuke has figured this out by himself." At that moment, Fae's phone went off. She scrutinises the screen as she reads the caller ID.

"It's from Fuuto." Fae says, her nose scrunching. Juli begins squeaking again, running over to Fae. He climbs up her, digging his claws into her as he hisses. She pouts at him as he rests at her shoulder. "Juli, your nails need cutting. And you're not a parrot." She rolls her eyes before reading the text over. She mutters the message under her breath, taking in the text. "End of year taping... staying there." She purses her lips. Juli hisses at the phone.

"So, what did it say?" Ukyo asks, raising a brow.

"He won't be coming for dinner because his taping session is running over." Fae said as she read over the last line.

"I see." Ukyo nods slowly. Faes phone starts to ring, so she flips it open after realising who it is.

"Himata speaking." Fae states blandly.

"Hello, little sister." Kanane greets. Fae rolls her eyes at this.

"Hello, Kana." Juli begins squeaking again, so Fae lowers her phone. "Calm down, Juli. It's only Kaname."

"I was planning on having dinner with you tonight, but I've gotten stuck with having to eat with a patron," Kaname explains.

"Surely, you should want to spend more time with someone that gives you money, Kana?" Fae asks, cocking her hip as she sighs.

"But I want to spend time with my stunning little sister. You're a bit cold today. Would you like me to warm you up?" He asks. Fae scowls at thin air. Would Kaname ever drop this?

"No thank you."

"That not what you're meant to say, I wanted to hear you say 'Aww, yes please big brother'." Kaname said, higher inflation of his voice, trying to impersonate Fae. Juli stole the phone and screeches down the line, hanging up on the monk. Fae sighs and looks at Juli.

"Juli, it's just-" Fae stops as her phone goes off again, so she snatches it off Juli, moving it up to her ear.

"Himata speaking."

"Hello Fae, it's Masaomi." Juli gives a soft chirp, nurseling into Faes neck. Fae looks up to Ukyo, but the man doesn't meet her eye. He stares at the floor, his expression unreadable.

"So, hey, I had a patient who took a sudden turn for the worse, so I can't go home." Masaomi explains.

"You spent the night there yesterday, are you sure you'll be fine?" Fae asks, concern evident in her voice.

"I appreciate your worry." Chatter is heard through the line, Masaomi speaking to someone else. "Sorry, but I need to go now."

"Masaomi will be staying at the hospital, again." Fae sighs, looking at Ukyou. Just because some of them annoy her, did not mean she doesn't worry.

"I see." Ukyou looks at the chart on the fridge. "But why are they all calling your cell?" He asks. Fae hums in questioning before he mutters. "Such calls have always come to me..."

"Perhaps they don't like talking to an authority figure." Fae shrugs. She looks up to Ukyou and sees him staring at her, eyebrows furrowed. Fae face palms and laughs slightly.

"That... Didn't make much sense, did it?" She chuckles. "Anyway, you need to finish off that paperwork." Fae walks past him and takes his apron from his hand. She puts it on and smiles down at it, tying up the back and looks up to see Ukyo staring at her. He blinks owlishly then walks up the stairs, not saying another word. Subaru soon appears and looks in the kitchen to find Fae.

"I'm home." Subaru greets, not checking to see whose in the kitchen.

"Welcome back, Subaru." Fae smiles.

"H-Hey, where's everybody else?" Subaru asks, surprised to see her at the oven.

"Have you lost your nerve, Subaru?" Fae questions with a grin. His cheeks flush red. "Everyone else is late or not coming back." Fae sighs. "I'll get dinner ready."

"P-Please." Subaru splutters before running off. Fae got dinner ready and set it out for her and Subaru. He eats quickly, demolishing his plate.

"If you eat that fast, you'll get indigestion." Fae points her knife at him as Subaru looks at her with an innocent expression. He lowers his fork, staring at his food blankly. "I meant don't choke." Fae rolls her eyes. At that, Subaru starts shovelling food back in his mouth again.

"Thank you for the food." Subaru standing up straight and walking towards the stairs.
