Chapter 21

Fae enters the sunrise residence with a sneeze. She scrunches up her face as she pressed the button for the elevator. There's a tickle in her nose, the urge to sneeze overtaking her. She clears her throat, trying to rid of it. Fae wonders into the living room to see the majority of the Asahina's sitting on the sofa.

"I'm back!" Fae smiles.

"Welcome back." She hears a chorus of voices. She comes down, Azusa shuffling to the side to give her a space. She looks over at Ema - who's between Hikaru and Kaname - and smiles. Yuusuke pouts and Masaomi chuckles at him.

"What's up with you?" Fae asks as she ruffles his hair.

"Did you know that Fuuto goes to our school now?!" He shouts in exasperation.

"Yeah." Fae nods her head in a duh tone.

"Fae! Why didn't you tell me?" Yuusuke asks in disbelief, gawking at her. "Why didn't you tell us?!"

"Thought you knew." Fae grins in amusement. The siblings laugh at him.

"It's not a laughing matter. You have any idea what a shock that was?" He asks, furrowing his brow in frustration.

"Fuuto must have kept it a secret on purpose. Being his usual charming self." Hikaru smiles. Fae laughs under her breath.

"I was really surprised when I saw Azusa at school," Ema tells them. Fae perks up, blinking languidly at Email before turning to Azusa.

"Sorry." Azusa apologises. "It didn't occur to me either that you two wouldn't know." Fae notices Masaomi on Ema's camera, flicking through the gallery.

"What's that Masa-bro?" Kaname cocks a brow.

"Oh, photos from the entrance ceremony that Ema took." Masaomi tells him. Fae leans towards Massimo, trying to see over his shoulder to the camera.

"Hey, that's a nice shot." Kaname points. "Little sister, make me the subject of your photos sometime. If it's just you and me, I wouldn't mind going the extra mile for you." Kaname whispers to Ema.

"That's enough from you." Fae sends him a levelled look, and he puts his hands up.

"Don't worry, Fae, I'm sure I can do some poses for you too." He winks. Fae scoffs, but it doesn't stop the blush.

"I wanna see the photos sis took, too!" Wataru shouts as he jumps forward. Fae takes a sigh of relief. Her favourite brother always saves the day. "Come on! Come on! Photographs! Photographs!"

"Okay, okay." Kaname sighs as he hands it over. "Here, don't break it." He warns.

"Yay! I'm gonna look at them with Juli." Wataru shouts, grabbing the animal by the scruff of his neck.

"I have to say, only a girl would be so thoughtful. Without mom around, it doesn't occur to anyone to take pictures of a siblings entrance ceremony." Kaname settles back into the sofa,

"Fae brought me the camera so I always keep it on me, she told me 'Photos are precious memories we can look back on, forever to hold, forever to keep'." Ema smiles gently up to Fae. Fae widens her eyes, in shock for a moment before she laughs.

"I said that to you when you were eight." she grins before she jogs her memory. "I was thinking of printing them out and giving them to everyone from the wedding to the cherry blossom picnic photos." Fae explains herself, looking to see if the brothers would be interested.

"Oh, well in that case, shall we put them up in this room?" Masaomi asks. Fae stares at him, brow furrowed.

"Are we allowed?" Fae asks sceptically.

"Of course." Masaomi smile. "We should have a couple of moms picture frames, so how about I look for them?"

"Okay." Fae smiles, clasping her hands together. Masaomi riffles through the cupboards by the television. Fae, Ema and Yuusuke follow him, watching expectantly.

"Oh, here they are." Masaomi holds out some wooden frames, smiling. "A little dusty but they'll do." He turns back around, reaching into the back as Ema marvels at the frames, marvelling at the idea of family photos on display. "I also found some other great things lying around in here." Masaomi removes a thick green covered book. Fae purses her lips before her eyes widen.

"Photo albums." Fae breaths as she takes them hastily from Masaomi. They settle back down on the sofa, looking through memories.

"The party's here, guys!" Tsubaki announces from the second floor. "well, well, well; looks like you've already started without me. Are we having fun?" He leans across the railing.

"We have photo albums!" Wataru waves one around at him. Tsubaki begins to descend the stairs as Ema flicks through the pages, fascinated at the pictures.

"Aww! Is this Masaomi holding baby Yuusuke?" Ema asks.

"That's right." Masaomi smiles, leaning forward to get a better look.

"Hey! Don't look at that stuff!" Yuusuke shouts, his face turning red.

"What about me? What about me?" Wataru shouts excitedly, squirming in place.

"I think you're in this album." Masaomi opens up another album, flicking through the pages.

"Huh?" Wataru's face drops. "There aren't that many photos."

"Because you haven't been alive for that long." Hikaru reasons, but Wataru still pouts.

"Don't worry, I have lots of pictures of you." Fae messes up his hair.

"Oh, Natsume and Subaru..." Ema gazes at a photo, lips parting. They look close, and happy. She'd never seen them look like that; especially not together.

"Yeah, back then Suba was seriously stuck to Nat like glue." Kaname chuckles as he looks up.

"And so adorable." Fae giggles with a beaming smile.

"Don't you have a photo album?" Hikaru asks. Both girls go silent and Ema looks up at Fae, worry mixing in her features. Before Masaomi could say anything, Fae quickly cut him off.

"We do! It's just, it's kind of, um..." Fae was at a loss for words.

"Broken." Ema adds. Fae nods quickly.

"Yeah; from the years of me flicking through it, it's sure to be tattered." Fae smiles nervously.

"So you like photography?" Hikaru asks as he leans on his palm. A faint smile appears on her face as she looks fondly down at the album, her hand unconsciously moving over her chest, just below her collar bone.

"Yeah, I love photography." Fae beams, the grin on her face replicating a child's. They'd all seen Fae happy and smiling, annoyed and mysterious, teasing and fun, but they didn't think they had seen her childishly happy about photos. Then Yuusuke picks up a photo.

"What about this one? It was laying between the pages. Is it Tsuba-bro?" He asks.

"I think that might be Azusa." Masaomi leans over to take a closer look.

"It's rare to see a photo of him by himself." Kaname comments as he leans over Masaomi.

"Tsubaki and Azusa were always together, after all." Hikaru adds.

"You took this, didn't you Tsubaki?" Azusa smiles, tapping on the fuzzy side of the photo. "See? It's blurred and that's why it was kept separate."

"Was that how it was?" Tsubaki asks as he raises a brow.

"I guess mum couldn't bring herself to throw it away." Masaomi sighs. Fae laughs under her breath.

"Hey! Would you please not talk about a photo I took like it's garbage?" Tsubaki asks, rather agitated.

"That's right. We don't have many photos," Fae picks up the photo. "So I'm envious. It must be nice..." Fae thinks of how Tsubaki took the photo, why he took it, where they were, the conversation held before and after the photo. She didn't know, but that made her want to. With her own photos, it acted as a window into the past. a catalyst that brought forth memories she hadn't realised she'd forgotten. Fae smiles as she thinks about the past. Then why photos mean so much to her pops into Fae's head. She was so sunken in that she almost didn't hear what Azusa asks.

"Do you want that photo?" Everyone looks over to him, either with a mixture of shock, surprise, or mischief. His cheeks flush pink. "Oh... That's not what you mean, right? Sorry, that was weird of me." Fae blinks up at him.

"Erm, I'd like it. Would it be alright, if I did?" She asks hesitantly.

"What?" He blinks owlishly. She actually accepted his offer. "Of course. If you want that thing." Azusa's cheeks redden. Fae smiles happily as she looks the picture over again, feeling giddy inside.

"Hey, what's this? Is this you trying to steal a march?" Tsubaki leans in, eyeing his twin.

"Huh?" Azusa eyes him. "What're you saying?"

"Azusa, you sly bastard." Tsubaki grabs his brothers chin.

"Tsubaki, don't tease your brother." Fae shakes her head, an amused smile on her lips. Tsubaki laughs.

The next day after an exhausting day at work Fae makes her way up the stairs, approaching her room. She can't wait to ditch her work wear for something more casual. She can't enter her room, someone waiting outside.

"Azoo?" She calls, tilting her head.

"Welcome back. Do you have a second?" He asks, drumming his nails across the brown paper bag he holds.

"Yeah, 'course. Let me open the door." Fae smiles as she gets out her keys.

"Well, it's not anything important. I just came to give this to you." He holds out the package. Fae takes it and her eyes widen in surprise. She gawks.

"Th-this is... " she is at a loss for words.

"You said the other day that your photo album wasn't in the best of conditions, so if you like it, I hope you'll accept it." Azusa smiles. Fae looks from Azusa to the album, then back to him with her mouth gaping slightly.

"B-but it's, um--"

"I want you to have it." Azusa assures. "This is our way of thanking you." Fae tilts her head in confusion, not trusting her mouth to form words. "That anime project is starting to get going in earnest. I caused you anxiety in a lot of ways, so I wanted to thank you properly."

"That was nothing, Azoo. No need to thank me. It's thanks to your talent that you got it, nothing to do with me." Fae waves her hand in dismissal. Then she scrunches up her face, sucking sharply through her teeth. "Not that I don't like the gift. I really do."

"No, without you, I wouldn't have been able to do that role." Azusa smiles reassuringly. "I think I would've ended up deeply hurting Tsubaki. It's because of you that I was able to change. Thank you." Azusa inclines his head. Fae's cheeks go pink, embarrassed and not knowing how to reach. She didn't think she did much, only what any person would do in her books. She looks up at him and remembers about the album in her hand. She then gives him a bright smile and hugs him, trapping his arms to his side. He turns rigid at the contact, a hot flush taking over. Her hair brushes his face, and he takes a deep breath. She smelt so sweet, like honey.

"Thank you so much for the photo album, you have not idea how much that means to me." Fae grins as she moves back, gripping his arms.

"Come to think of it. I feel as though this is the first time I've talked to you since you came back late from work that one time. I've always got that rowdy me with me, after all." They both laugh at that. "We've been living together for quite a long time already, too. What in the world have I been doing, right?" Azusa asks. He continues to talk as Fae smiles gently.

Somehow, I feel comfortable when I'm talking to Azusa. I wonder if this is what it's like to have an older brother... Either way, I'm glad Ema has such a great one.

"Now that you say that, Azusa, you're right. We don't hang out much. Once you're done with the anime and we both have some time to spare, we should have a drink." Fae smiles as she holds the album to her chest. Azusa blushes at this, so Fae panics with one hand shaking about. "We could invite Tsubaki too. It would be fun." She smiles nervously as Azusa rubs his neck.

"Yes, I'm sure we'd both enjoy that." Azusa nods as Fae unlocks her door. They both go their different ways, and soon they've all eaten dinner and entered their rooms for the night. Fae was extremely warm in her room so instead of putting the photos she had collected in her new photo album in her room, she goes down to the dining room. She places down the box, no bigger than a microwave, that held all her loose photos. She picks up the bunch from the left side that she had printed off from her camera. She had planned to buy a photo album but Azusa had beaten her to it. Fae laughs gently as she picks up the photo of Azusa with a grin on her face. She moves the see-through plastic and gently lays out the photo, making sure it's straight.

"Baki?" Fae calls, lifting her head up.

"I didn't know you were here." Tsubaki holds up a manuscript. "Mind if I join you?" Fae looks at him in surprise. She quickly gathers up the photos she had spread out before.

"I don't want to get in the way of your practice, so I'll move my stuff for you." Fae said as she collects up the photos in hand. He peers down at them, and one catches his eye.

"You're treating that thing with an awful lot of care. It's almost as if it's a picture of your boyfriend." Tsubaki basically sneers down at the album. Fae hums as she stacks up the photos.

"That's because it's a family picture." She straightens out the stack.

"Is that really all? Can I trust you?" Tsubaki asks as he steps towards her.

"Of course," Fae said as she turns to look up at him. She juts a brow, unsure.

"I need you! It's true that I was a bad person. I was selfish and I hurt you." He steps forward and grabs her shoulders. Fae gapes, eyes wide. "I apologise. For that kiss, too." Tsubaki looks down at her, Fae staring up at him in bewilderment.

"Tsubaki, I--" He wacks the script on your head.

"Just kidding! Those were lines for the script."

"Oh." Fae looks him over, waiting for a further reaction.

"Stupid storyline, huh?" He asks, pursing his lip at the bundle of paper. Fae nods slowly. His face pulls down before he pulls her into a hug. She stiffens up, her arms being pushed up against her chest and forcing her to drop some photos. He wraps one arm around her shoulder, the other hooking around her waist. "I won't apologise." He nuzzles his face into her neck, warm breath fanning over her shoulder. "Because what I did wasn't in the spur of the moment or on a whim." He slowly moves away, burying his nose in her hair. "I'm serious. I'll prove it to you." He bearly whispers it over the shell of her ear. She sucks in a breath, eyes widening as slowly draws back, before leaning in. Fae whines in protest, leaning away. Tsubaki lets go quickly, and she falls back onto the sofa. She blinks up at him, red in the face.

"Tsubaki, what are you doing?" She's breathless, and he's barely done anything.

"I love you." Fae stops moving altogether. She looks at him as he leans over her, slowly crouching down. He runs his hands over the sofa beside her, and her breath hikes. "I'm in love with you." His hand runs towards her body now, his knuckles brushing against her hip and towards her neck. He cranes his head down. "I'm never letting anyone else have you." He locks his lips with her.

"Tsubaki!" She turns her head, refusing to accept this. Last time it was sweet and short, but this is heated and intense, his lips brushing over her cheek. Then it's cold. His body is removed off her.

"Azusa." Tsubaki growls his name, gritting his jaw as he swipes Azusa's hands off him.

"You asked me to do a read-through of the script with you, or did you forget?" Azusa asks him, standing tall. He looks down at Fae for the smallest moment, before scrunching up his face and frowning at Tsubaki in disappointment.

"And what about you?" Tsubaki begins, pointing his finger. "Did you forget? I told you, didn't I? That I wouldn't give her up, not even for you!"

"Yeah, you told me." Azusa looks away, looking ashamed as Tsubaki clicks his tongue.

"So you're doing this knowingly!" Tsubaki voice is borderline hysterical, throwing his hands up in the air.

"That's right. I'm doing this knowingly." Azusa nods, nose scrunching up. "Go back to your room, Tsubaki." He orders firmly. "Let's end things here for tonight." Tsubaki stays silent for a moment before turning away sharply.

"Fine. Forget it." He takes a step forward, before stopping. His grip tightens on his script before he casts a glance to Fae. She's sat up now, but she turns away. "Good night." Tsubaki makes his way up the stairs and out of sight. Azusa sighs.

"Are you okay?" He asks Fae, looking down at her. She looks shaken up.

"Yeah, just caught off guard." Fae continues to look down, her fist slightly shaking in anger. But not angry with Tsubaki, but with herself. Fae beats herself up as her grip tightens on her shirt and clasps her necklace. Azusa watches her carefully. Fae looks up to Azusa, catching his gaze.

"Azusa?" Fae asks. He looks as if he wanted to say something.

"You'd better go back to your room." He looks at her from the corner of his eye. "I'm in no position to yell at Tsubaki." It instantly clicks in Fae's mind on what he meant, but she doesn't want to believe it.

"Pardon?"

"I'm... the same as him."
