Chapter 20
"Being able to greet this dawn with you... I never thought this day would come." Fuuto smiles softly. He tilts his head slightly, his brown eyes fuzzing over. "I love you. And I will love you, forever and ever, for all eternity."
"Wow." Fae blinks, feeling hollow as she looks at his face. "I never realised he could act so well." She brings her bare feet up on the couch. Yuusuke groans in disgust, throwing his body back in the sofa.
"I can't take this!" He complains.
"Good for Fu!" Kaname grins. Wataru lifts up the remote to the TV.
"One more time!" He announces, clicking the replay button. Yuusuke gives an exaggerated roll of his eyes.
"That's enough already, isn't it?"
"It is the fifth time you've replayed it..." Fae adds hesitantly. Admiring Fuuto was one thing, but watching this video on repeat is getting tiring. Wataru shouts as Yuusuke snatches the remote off him.
"Why do I gotta see Fuuto's face over and over again?" Yuusuke asks. "If I have to see it one more time I'll puke in my mouth."
"What? But Fu's so cool. All my classmates told me they're jealous that he's my big brother!" Wataru pouts, still trying to grab the remote.
"Damn, that's stupid." Yuusuke clicks his tongue.
"Yeah, but this commercial has been well-received, right?" Masaomi questions, leaning on the back of the couch.
"I hear Fu's popular with girls who are older than him too. That wouldn't be the case, would it Fae?" Kaname asks as he puts his arm behind her head. Fae shrugs her shoulders.
"I dunno." She remarks indifferently. "I have to admit, his acting is really good for such a young male."
"This company took a big risk picking Fuuto." Ukyo says, walking over with a tray of tea.
"Is that true?" Fae inquires curiously.
"It seems this travel agency has never hired a pop star before," Ukyo informs them.
"It's really something, you know?" Masaomi sighs.
"As a result, New Caledonia where this was shot is being inundated with reservations," Ukyo explains.
"That's incredible." Ema smiles. Yuusuke folds his arms behind his head and groans in disgust.
"I don't know what people see in him!"
"Hateful as ever, aren't you?" Kaname asks Yuusuke. Yuusuke sticks his nose in the air.
"That stinking brat!" He scrunches up his nose.
"Yuusuke," Masaomi warns. "I don't think those are words an older brother should use in reference to his younger brother."
"My bad..."
"Hey, hey, never mind all that!" Wataru pipes up excitedly. "I want to go there too! New Currydonia!" Wataru shouts.
"Ca-le-donia." Fae corrects, patting his head.
"Great idea. I'd love to go just the two of us, little sis." Kaname leans towards her.
"No thanks, I prefer family trips." Fae bluntly states.
"Then how about we go together, overseas?" Masaomi questions.
"What?" Everyone choruses as they stare at him in shock. Wataru jumps up.
"Yay! Hurray, Currydonia!" He shouts, skipping around the ottoman.
"A-all of us, together?" Ukyo asks as he places down the tray of tea.
"Yeah." Masaomi nods, smiling. "How about doing it during summer break? Well?" He looks over at the girls. "You two are the ones I hope to please the most, you know." Fae feels the air catch in her throat.
"What?" Ema asks. Fae sits still, unmoving, as she watches him. Masaomi looks between Yuusuke and Ema.
"I'm sure you two have entrance exams to think of, but don't you think you could also use a little break?" Masaomi asks the teens.
"M-Masa-bro..." Yuusuke stutters.
"Haru, can you believe it? A family holiday." Fae breaths as she falls onto her bed.
"Will you be alright Fifi, you haven't gone on holiday since--"
"Since I was eleven, I know!" Fae laughs. She lies on her stomach as she swings her legs back and forth. "It would be so fun, and this time Emmy would be there too."
"Like you wanted Emmy to be there last time you went." Haruhi grunts.
"Well no, but if-... This time we'll be with a new family. And lots of them. It will be fun!" Fae grins.
"Anything new happen?" Haruhi asks, quickly changing the subject.
"At the weekend I had an indirect kiss with Masa and Fuuto said I was his. You can tell I wasn't so pleased." Fae mumbles.
"You're so lucky, having so many people after you," Haruhi says boredly.
"Haru! You're meant to get angry! Not be at peace with it!" She scowls at her phone.
"Don't really care."
"Wow, you're amazing. I wish you were with me now so I could hit you." Fae says indifferently. "Talking about hanging with you, Emmy said she wants to hang out. Perhaps when she has spare time, and we could all hang out like old times."
"That'd be fun." Haruhi sighs.
"You sound so ecstatic," Fae says sarcastically. "Anyway, anything interesting happen?" She grins happily.
"Actually yeah, you know I told you about Sume, we hung out the other day." Haruhi now sounded pleased. Ever since he had moved into his apartment, he had found someone that piqued his interest instantly. Fae was so curious, but Haruhi told her to stay away in case she scared Sume off. Fae couldn't even get their full name because Haruhi knows that she'd search them up in the police database. He gave everyone weird nicknames, so 'Sume' wasn't very helpful.
"So have they done anything yet?" Fae asks, the smile not coming off her face. Haruhi had never had a partner - a serious one - and held a wall up between him and everyone else. He had bad boy written all over him, so how Fae became his best friend was a very long story unbeknownst to most. Haruhi sighs dreamily causing Fae's grin to widen.
"I think they think I like them as a friend, but seriously, how can anyone be just friends with Sume, they're just too good looking for their own good."
"Sume sure has you whipped around their pinky." Fae snickers. "The love of your life and they don't even know it yet. And they live right next door."
"Talking about love-of-your-life, fallen for any of Emmy's brothers yet?" Haruhi asks.
"No!" She shrieks. "They're my brothers!" She insists.
"Technically no." Haruhi drawls.
"Okay, their my God-step-brothers." Fae shrugs.
"There's no such thing." Haruhi deadpans.
"Yeah, there is! And I have them!" Fae insists.
"But has there been any other confessions, or feelings, since Tsubaki?" Haruhi asks. Fae groans. She told everything to Haruhi. Every little deep dark secret about herself, Haruhi would know.
"I don't know! Tsubaki kissed me, but that's because he was depressed. Azusa basically admitted his feelings, though I don't want to jump to conclusions. Fuuto told me I was his, I have no excuses for that pervy pop star. Wataru said he wants to get married to me, but he's adorable and young so he can get away with it. And I'm pretty sure Ukyo and Masaomi are making passes at me, or they could just be being good brothers and Kaname is as perverted as ever, but he's toned it down since the murder case." Fae explains.
"Anyone after Ema?"
"As far as I know, only Subaru and Yusuke, and I prefer Yusuke far more than Subaru. That redhead may be a Tsundere, but he cares so much it's adorable." Fae smiles faintly. If she would allow anyone from this family to date her Emmy, it would be Yusuke.
"Anyone that is normal in that family?" Haruhi asks boredly, though Fae could hear him light a cigarette.
"Well, so far the best brothers would have to be Masaomi, Ukyo, Hikaru, Azusa, Natsume, Louis and Iori. They don't seem that interested, only acting like brothers." Fae said as she starts to fiddle with a scarf she had wrapped around her headboard of the bed.
"Didn't you say Ukyo and Masaomi made passes?" Haruhi asks.
"Well yeah, but it seemed more like brotherly actions, like teaching me cooking skills or helping me with Wataru. But they give me information about the family I can use, so I don't mind."
"Yeah, as long as Little Miss Detective can get information it's fine," Haruhi grumbles.
"But you know I'm great at weaselling out information. Always have been." Fae chuckles.
"Yeah, and quite frankly it's creepy." Fae laughs at this. "But it's probably because you have that friendly calm aura around you, and then when you laugh or smile it's fucking adorable." She heard him take a drag of his cigarette. "Like when you smile because you're so happy and you hate it, you cover your mouth. That is why everyone found you so endearing in high school." Fae huffs.
"I just don't like my smile." She grumbles as she continues to play with the scarf, wrapping it around her head.
"Yeah, but when you cover it, you look like a high school girl talking to her crush." Haruhi teases.
"Do not." She pouts. She purses her lips and hears her doorbell ring. "Got to go."
"Course you do." Haruhi rolls his eyes.
"Bye Haru." Fae hangs up her phone and drops it on her bed, walking over to the door answers it, only to give a nervous smile to the man at the door.
"Hi, Kaname." She cringes slightly at his face. No smile or a perverted look on his face. He sighs and hesitantly starts talking.
"I just wanted to... I-"
"It's alright Kaname, no hard feelings." Fae gives him a crooked smile.
God this is hard.
"I was doing my job, and you just happened to be involved. Let's not make thing awkward. We're family, I'll look out for you." She now grins as Kaname stares at her.
"Sis, I'm touched, but I understand you were just doing your job." He smiles mischievously. "It seems you're more grown up about this than I thought. To prove that you're fine, let's hug it out." Kaname opens up his arms, waiting for a hug. Fae's face falls, making a noise at him. "You know, Iori said I give great hugs." He tries to persuade.
"Yeah, when he was five." Fae laughs and gives him a hug anyway. Kaname chuckles and pats her back. She looks up at him and grins happily. "You're doing a great job on the big brother role." She laughs. Kaname smiles fondly down at her, patting her head.
"Yeah, big brother." His hand strokes down to her cheek. Her heart speeds up, her face turns red, and she quickly steps back, rubbing her neck sheepishly.
"Is my sister blushing?" Kaname chuckles. She takes two steps back and shouts.
"Bye, Kana!" Before slamming the door in his face. "He's so--!" she growls, clenching her fists.
"I heard that sis." Fae didn't think she could get any more embarrassed.
"Bloody brothers." She grumbles as she walks back to her bed and face plants in it. There is a knock at her door a few hours later as she puts down her book, marking the page with a piece of card.
"Yeah?" She opens it to see a blushing redette. "Yuusuke?"
"We need your help!" He blurts. Fae tilts her head.
"What with?"
"E-English. Ema said you were good at it." Yusuke tells her.
"Yeah, I'll help you." Fae nods as she walks out her room and to the elevator with Yuusuke. "How are things going with Ema?" Fae asks with a smirk.
"G-good!" Fae laughs as she pats his shoulder.
"Loosen up. I may carry a gun, but I'm not going to shoot you."
"Please don't say that." Yuusuke withers, holding his hand over his heart. They both step out the elevator and walk into the dining room. Ema sits on one side of the table with papers and books everywhere.
"What do you need help with exactly?" Fae asks as she sits at the head of the table, Ema to her left and an empty seat - which she presumed to be Yuusuke's - on her right.
"English." Ema tells her, looking up from her book. Fae laughs through her nose.
"No, I mean which unit. Appearance? Shopping? Jobs? Opinions?" Fae asks.
"I need help with directions," Ema informs.
"And I need help with opinions," Yuusuke adds. Fae chuckles.
That's so like them.
"Is it the remembering or the pronunciation you're having problems with?" Fae asks, taking one of the English revision books to skim through.
"Pronouncing." Both teens chorus. The three of them had been sat for little over an hour, and they were finally able to speak, though not correctly most the time.
"Emmy, how do I get to the Bakery?" Fae asks. Ema thought for a moment, then hesitantly answered.
"Y-you take a reft, then con-continue down that road until you find the bakery." Ema stutters. Fae nods.
"That was good, except your pronunciation of the L, you keep using R instead of L." Fae tells her as Ema nods in understanding. "Other than that, you're doing amazing." Fae praises. "Now Yuse, compliment Emmy." Fae instructs. Yuusuke looks hesitant as both students blush. "Quickly." Fae rushes with a grin.
Oh, how she loved to torment this poor kid.
Yuusuke looks over at Ema as she waits for him to start. Yuusuke stares at her face as his breath gets caught in his throat.
"I r-love you..." Yusuke stares deeply into Ema's brown eyes. She stares back innocently with a slight blush from his intense gaze. Then he noticed the stifled snickers and his thoughts snap back to what he was meant to be doing. He got so distracted by Ema that he forgot what he was saying. "I LOVE YOUR HAIR!" Yuusuke burst out, and Fae breaks into hysterical laughter.
"Yuse, you are the best for a laugh." Fae laughs as she wipes away tears but still couldn't hold on her laughter as her stomach starts to hurt. Yuusuke is the same colour as his hair and Ema is confused. "But next time add more words, like I love your long brown hair. It'll get more marks." Fae calmed down but her cheeks still flush red, and her stomach hurt from that sudden break out of laughter.
Who knew her little brother love life could be so entertaining?
She may have preferred Yuusuke over Subaru, but that didn't stop her from tormenting him. In fact, it made her want to annoy the child to the brink. They carried on with speaking English until they wanted to move onto another subject. Science. Fae is pulled out from a conversation with Ema when her phone vibrates.
☆Haru☆: I've got no work on Friday. Ask Emmy if she wants to hang then.
"Emmy, you know you asked about Haru, he said he can hang out on Friday." Fae informs. Ema thinks over for a second.
"Sorry Fae, I think I should study and focus on the festival..." Ema admits sheepishly. Fae smiles proudly.
"You're so grown up. Remember to do everything I didn't do!" Fae chimes. Ema laughs quietly, and Yuusuke sends her a weird look.
"Everything you didn't do?" Yuusuke inquires.
"Yeah, upcoming to the tests Haruhi distracted me. Lots." Fae laughs.
"What did he do?" Yusuke ask. He had no idea his cool sister had a bad streak. Fae laughs slightly at the memory.
"Haruhi basically forced me to leave my house the week leading up to exams because I was panicking over them. We ended up going to party and raves, and it was the first time I got drunk too." Fae admits with a smile, her eyes hazing over as she remembered her delinquent days
"Really?" Yuusuke asks in amazement.
"Yeah, but it did help me... But don't do it. I only got away with it because I'm was a straight A student." Fae waves her hands around in panic.
"So that's why I didn't see you in the library for a while." A soft voice spoke. Fae looks behind her to see Louis.
"Oh Rui, I didn't hear you." Fae smiles up at him.
"I fell asleep... on the sofa." Louis admits. "What are you doing?"
"Science." Yuusuke answers as he starts writing again.
"I forgot you two were in the same year." Ema smiles up at the two 21-year-olds.
"Yeah, Fae looks so young. When I first met her, I thought she was the same age as Suba." Yuusuke adds.
"Thanks?" Fae shrugs, unsure if these were compliments or not.
"It's weird to think that you went out partying on exams week, you were the head of the discipline committee." Louis said.
"The discipline committee?" Yuusuke repeats. Fae shakes her head with a smile. He seemed to be repeating a lot of stuff today.
"Yeah, from a young age I wanted to work for homicide so I thought of things to do that would help with the job." She turns to Louis with mock-offence. "But it's not my fault I didn't get any studying in. I really wanted to, but Haruhi wouldn't leave me alone. I think Emmy remembers him dragging me out the house because I wanted to study, but then again he helped me loosen up." Fae sighs. Haruhi always knew what to do, even if she didn't agree.
"Anyway, Emmy. Haruhi said he was free on Friday so if you aren't gonna hang out with us, I'll get you a present for your hard work." Fae grins as she pets Ema's head. "You too Yuusuke, you deserve a present for that stunt you pulled early. That took a lot of guts." Fae smirks. Yuusuke turns red. He couldn't deny what he did, so he'd just ignore it.
"Where will you go?" Louis asks. Fae shrugs.
"Probably to that cafe that Tsubaki took me too. Or maybe something more fun." Fae thinks.
"You went to a cafe with Tsubaki?" Louis asks as he sits down next to Yusuke.
"Yeah, just before he auditioned for that voice acting part." Fae answers. Louis nods in understanding.
