Chapter 1

The sun shone harshly against the two brunettes as they walked to their new residence. Heads overheated, they continue their trek down the road, the taller of the two checking her phone ever so often. The younger one lifts up her thin fingers, tightening her ponytail and adjusting her bow, looking up through her bangs. Luckily for her, tying up her hair cools down her scalp, unlike the brunette beside her.

Fae purses her lips, releasing a huff as she languidly surveys their path, looking at the short red brick walls that separated her from private property. This area seems far fancier than she is used to. She sucks it up, straightening her posture and combs a hand through her hair, pushing it back. Her skin is warm from the blazing sun-a summer sun at the end of May. When in Rome, do as the roman do.

May 22 will be remembered as the day Ema and Fae joins the Sunrise Residents and formally meet their new family. Fae huffs, her gaze lingering on Ema's form. Her face is flushed, sweat sticking her hair to her forehead as her breathing is ragged, but not from the sun. Fae places her hand on Ema's shoulder, halting both their steps to stare into chocolate coloured eyes. She lets a hand fall, it swinging as she allows the silence to emphasise how serious she is being.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Fae question for the nth time, raising a brow.

"Y-Yes, I'm fine," Ema replies almost in a panic. Ema begins to move again, and Fae rolls her eyes before following after.

"I am your sister, I'm allowed to worry. So instead of leaving me in suspense, just tell me if something's wrong." Fae crosses her arms, brows furrowed in concern.

"We're almost there." Ema announces, blocking out Fae's concern. A grey squirrel jumps onto Ema's other shoulder, lifting his paw up into the air at Fae as it squeaks away. Fae smiles softly, patting the creatures small black nose and laughs lightly.

"The trucks there already." Fae moves her head suddenly, appearing like a rabbit listening for predators. They turn the corner in time to watch a large lorry they saw this morning turn the corner. Fae quickens her steps, finally able to see past the tall wall with steel spikes. A high building stands in front of her, a cherry blossom tree swaying in the spring breeze. Her eyes widen, a saying coming to mind. The grass is always green on the other side of the fence. As Fae goes to speak, Ema tugs lightly on her cream cardigan. She gestures to the two males standing by the automatic doors. Fae pulls up her wrist, her black bag falling onto her elbow as she slowly makes the pace, a small smile on her lips. She stops before both of them, the boy hiding behind the taller man who holds a soft smile.

"Excuse us, but is this the sunrise residence?" Fae shows her phone to the elder man. It has the address for the building that they had the truck sent to.

"Yes, I'm glad to finally meet you." He greets, his voice prim and proper.

"Sorry we took longer than expected," Fae begins, "I'm Fae, and this is Ema Hinata. Please look after us." She bows to both males, and Ema follows suit.

"We had them take your stuff to your rooms already." The older one informs with a polite smile to both girls. His soft brown hair fell onto his forehead, the odd end in a tight curl around his ears, and Baileys coloured eyes watching the two with childish delight. He dawns a lime shirt over his lean frame, and neatly ironed brown khakis.

Masaomi Asahina, 1st son. 31 years old. Current occupation: Paediatrician.

"I'm the oldest, Masaomi." He introduces. "And this is the youngest, Wataru." He places his hand on the young boy's shoulder. Wataru's salmon hair bounced at his shoulders, a gravity-defying cowlick waving in the soft breeze. Fae smiles down at the boy, her eyes mesmerised by his cuteness as he held his brother's hand. He peers up at her with his brown eyes, and they perfectly matched Masaomi's.

Wataru, 12th son. 10 years old. Current occupation: elementary school student.

"Hello, Big sisters!" Wataru chirps, rolling back on his heels.

"H-Hello." Ema stutters.

"Hello, Wataru." Fae gives a closed eye smile to the small boy.

"I'm looking forward to living with you," Ema said to Masaomi.

"We're looking forward to having you." Masaomi replies and leads them towards the house. Juli squeaks some more to Ema, rubbing its head against her cheek. Fae quirks her lip as she peers at the small grey squirrel perched on Ema's shoulder: why did it always appear to speak?

Masaomi led them to the elevator and took them both to the 4th floor, a metal box feeling spacious for the first time in forever. Fae curls her fingers around the sidebars, the g-force making her head fade into fuzziness. The red numbers read four when it finally stopped, and Masaomi lead them down the hall to the right. They stop at the first room, Wataru explaining how this was Ema's room which was once held a brother that moved out two years ago. As Wataru mindlessly chatted away, Masaomi hands over to each girl a house and bedroom key.

"Next door you have Azusa and Tsubaki. Fae, you're at the end of the hall. You'll meet the rest of our family after you've seen your room. We'll leave you alone for now." Masaomi said has he takes Wataru's hand.

"Thank you." Fae nods in appreciation. Ema disappears into her room, and Fae walks further down the hallway, past two other rooms to the last door. Placing the key inside the lock of the metal door, she is welcomed by the sight of unpacked boxes. Up against the left wall was an abundance of boxes, all labelled and taped up. She looks around the room, already planning where to put everything with a smile.

The room was larger than the others as it was placed at the edge of the building with a balcony, looking over the front and back garden as it bent around the corner. Sliding the glass door open, she lets fresh air come in. On the bed was blue and yellow duvets, and she smiles softly.

"This is probably the girliest thing they'd have for bedding." She muses, imagining them fussing over what things they could give to girls. She sits on the edge, taking a deep breath and fall back, her body jumping before stilling. She's instantly surrounded by the smell of fabric softener, and an aloof smile appears on her face before rolling onto her stomachs, taking in a large waft. Her fist clenches, pulling at the soft material as it easily slips through her fingers. She sighs happily at the fresh smell.

A loud thump from down the hall disturbed her, making her jump up off the bed. Loud squeaks were heard, and the clatter of the animal's nails at it ran over the floorboards. Fae furrows her brow, sighing in exhaustion.

"Juli probably doesn't like the smell." Fae sighs, her eyes half-lidded. She gets up and smooths out the bed before moving boxes around, placing her toiletries in the on-suite, clothes by the wardrobe and other necessities on her desk. She pats the last box, smiling at her planning. She'd give the room quick dust before unpacking, and check on Ema now. She walks down the hall, a small smile on her face as she looks out the long window that looks out to the back garden, numerous amounts of flowers littering pots and beds. She stops by Ema's door, lifting her hand and knocking three times. But no one answered. She scowls, looking the door over before lighting pushing on it. It opens, revealing a half-eaten nut beside the bed on the floor and seven boxes randomly placed. She huffs, noticing the keys left on the table. Pocketing them, she heads towards the elevator. Just as she moves to press the button, she notices a man get out from the other one. Her eyes widen, the man surprising her.

He wore a grey suit, honey blond hair reaching his shoulders and hazel eyes. His Royal purple shirt had a few buttons undone, revealing his collarbone. Fae looks down at herself, feeling underdressed in her light blue jeans, baby blue turtleneck, a cream cardigan and pastel grey ankle boots. Upon noticing her, the confusion melts off his face, and it replaced with a grin, his eyes squinting.

"You must be one of our new sisters. It's a pleasure to meet you." His voice was sultry, and he reached out for her hand, placing a ghost kiss across her knuckles. "My name is Kaname." Fae's eyes widen slightly, her throat jumping.

Kaname Asahina, 3rd son. 28 years old. Current occupation: Monk.

"I'm Fae. It's nice to meet you." She bows her head, giving him a confident smile. She then furrows her brow, looking at the elevator and something finally dawns on her. "Would you mind showing me the living room? Ema has wandered off, and our squirrel just went after her." She admits sheepishly, running her elbow. The man smiles, tilting his head.

"Just give me a moment." He held up his hand and went to the first room on the right, opening the door and disappearing inside. Fae stood for a moment before slowly moving towards his room, then stopping at the wall between his door and the elevator. She leans against it, her breathing slowing down as she listens, the halls quiet. She stood, checking her watch after a moment only to hear a door click open and for Kaname to walk out. She stares at his outfit, before looking at him. He wore ceremonial robes, dark purple with white vines on his outer kimono. Underneath was a black, then a white one. Held in his hands was charm beads, and sandals on his feet.

"You shoulder be fooled by appearances, sis." Kaname chuckles, tilting his head at her.

"Oh, no. I mean, I knew you were a monk. Rinatoru has already spoken of you and your brothers." Fae informs, turning to face him. "It's just the outfit change is very different. You looked like a P.A earlier." She chuckles, squinting. Kaname hums, walking towards her as his sandals click.

"Why don't I give you a special Buddhist sermon in my room? Perhaps then, you would never forget my true purpose." He smiles flirtatiously. She makes an offhand movement with her arm, laughing through her nose.

"I'll have to decline your offer. For now, can you show me downstairs, or upstairs?" She squints to herself. "This place is going to take some time to get used too." Kaname walks forwards, pressing the button for the elevator.

"Of course. Any time you are in need, come look for me." He offers.

"Thank you." Fae smiles in appreciation as they step into the elevator. There was silence as the elevator went up one floor. He explains where each room branched off too, stalely placing a hand on her shoulder. She soon shrugs it off and thanks him for the explanation before leading her to the living, explain the open plan with a Terrance, dining room, kitchen and living room in one area. He walks down the stairs first, his beads jingling with each step. Fae follows behind, her hand on the bannister as she stares at the immaculate room. Five figures were already dotted around the place, watching the duo closely. Kaname made his move on Ema already, kissing the girls hand. The identical men stood side by side, seemingly joint at the hip. On the left, that make had to snow white hair that swooped to the right, and under his violet eyes was a beauty mark. She was taken back by his odd appearance, not many Japanese people able to look so bold. Her eyes fall upon his apparent twin, his appearance not so bold. He was a mirror image, everything the opposite of his brother. His hair was dark, thick black glasses framed over Violet eyes and a beauty mark beneath his left.

Tsubaki Asahina, 5th son. 24 years of age. Current occupation: voice actor.

Azusa Asahina, 6th son. 24 years of age. Current occupation: voice actor.

Tsubaki approaches first, a goofy grin covering his face. The edge of Fae's mouth curled up, and she holds out her hand. He stops, surprised by her offer. He chuckles.

"We're family now, no need to be so professional!" He bats away her hand and brings her into a tight hug. Fae's eyes widen, a small squeak bubbling in her throat.

"Tsubaki!" Azusa scolds, grabbing the back of his twins collar and dropping him. He scowls at him before looking to Fae apologetically. "I'm sorry for Tsubaki's behaviour. I'm Azusa." He offers his hand, and Fae takes it was a soft laugh.

"I'm Fae. It's nice to meet you both." She smiles, giving him a firm shake. Tsubaki jumps back up, throwing his arm over Azusa's shoulder. The blond in the suit sighs loudly, pushing up his glasses as he walks around the food cart he was pushing forwards.

Ukyou Asahina, 2nd son. 29 years old. Current occupation: lawyer.

"Sorry for there behaviour, Fae. They are not normally like this." Ukyou scolds as he sends stern looks towards Kaname and Tsubaki. "I am Ukyou, the second oldest. I am the attorney of the family." He rushes down his suit, the red shirt standing out against the grey waistcoat. He offers his hand, and Fae shakes it with a smile. Her eyes fall upon the sunflower pin that itself symbolising his job.

"What the hell?! There's another one?" A heated voice shouts. The boy in question had bright red hair, two braids swinging behind him as he walked over. His eyes a dark red, and he wore the male version of Ema's uniform. He stops four feet or so before her.

"Nice to meet you too." She muses, an eyebrow raised. "Are you one of Emmie's classmates?"

"Yes, and she's not my sister." He insists, scowling. Fae smiles.

"You're Yuusuke, aren't you?" She said it teasingly, watching as his cheeks resemble his hair.

Yuusuke Asahina, 11th son. 16 years old. Current occupation: high school student.

Moments later, Kaname lets out a groan of pain. Fae looks over to see Juli had scratched his face. Ema quickly apologises for its actions.

"Kana-bro you really are like a lump of worldly passion, huh? I wish I could be as aggressive as you." Tsubaki grins, crossing his arms over his chest.

"... And you are like a lump of nastiness." Azusa insults him. Fae laughs under her breath, finding the siblings' squabbles quiet entertaining. She approaches Ema, stopping beside the girl and smiling encouragingly to her. Wataru then appears between Ema and Fae.

"Tsu and Asu are the voices in manga and TV." Wataru whispers not-so-loudly. Ema makes a sound of understanding as Fae smiles down at the cute boy. Tsubaki then brightens up, grinning broadly.

"Why don't I give you a 'comfort hug'? I'm sure Yusie's words were hurtful." He held a big grin and approached Fae with open arms. Azusa brings down his fist to Tsubaki's head.

"Just tell me if Tsubaki causes you any trouble. I'll give him a good scolding." Azusa holds up his fist for effect, a smile on his face.

" Azusa holds up his fist for effect, a smile on his face

Both girls nod silently.

"Ah, don't phase it like that! That's mean!" Tsubaki shouts as he rubs the newly sore spot on his head. Ukyou leads them towards the lounge, a large sofa stretching around the room. Fae stood next to Ema, her eyes surveying the two new figures.

Iori Asahina, 10th son. 18 years old. Current occupation: university student.

His slate coloured hair was brushed forward neatly, and his hazel eyes watched both girls pensively. He wore a school uniform for one of the nearby private Christian schools.

Subaru Asahina, 9th son. 19 years old. Current occupation: university student.

The boy looked somewhat uncomfortable as both girls entered, his black hair slightly damp with a thin layer of sweat. His grey eyes dart between both girls before he averts his gaze.

The rest of the brothers seat themselves down except for Ukyou, who remained standing as he hands out various beverages.

"This is our other two siblings that also live here." Ukyou points out, gesturing other to his younger brothers.

"I'm Iori." The younger one stands. "I'm a third-year high school student," he looks to Ema. "A year older than you. Nice to meet you." Iori sends them both a small smile.

"So you go to Bright Centrair?" Fae asks as she looks over his uniform.

"Yes, that's right." He nods. It was a famous missionary school, that had strict guidelines and tight schedules, along with the hardest entrance exams.

"Ah, so you have to wear a cross because you go to a missionary school." Ema notes aloud as most of the brother's freeze, but only the younger girl was dense enough not to notice. The other brother, sensing the mood shift, lifts a hand and gives a small wave.

"Subaru, sup." He then looks away, saying no more as his cheeks become heated. Fae and Ema stood in front of them all.

"I'm Fae." She bows.

"E-Ema Hinata." Ema stutters shyly, lowering her head as Juli jumps to the floor.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all!" They say in unison. Fae stands up straight again as moves a stray strand of hair behind her ear while Ema continues to blush. The brothers smile at them. Both girls seat themselves on the big sofa, Kaname to Ema's right and Wataru to Fae's left. Ema pulls her sleeves down before rubbing at her arm, staring down at her lap.

"Is this room too cold for you?" Masaomi asks in concern. Ema's face fills with worry, but Fae takes ahold of Ema's hands with her own, soothing the girl silently.

"No. She's fine, but thank you for worrying." Fae gives Masaomi a nod before looking at her sister with a look. Kaname leans towards Ema slightly, stretching his arm across the back of the sofa.

"In fact... It's almost stuffy, right? With so many of us gathered in here." He asks Ema, raising a hand.

"Oh, no. And I'm sorry for what Juli did earlier." Ema apologises, looking down in shame.

"It's all good. He's my darling little sister's pet after all. I'll be doting on him too." Kaname said. Juli jumps up immediately and starts squeaking at Kaname, making the male back away from Ema, laughing nervously. 'I need to give extra nuts to Juli later.' Fae reminds herself with a small smirk.

"I'm so sorry." Ema apologises again, taking Juli away and placing him in her lap.

"Are you surprised?" Jodi asks, grabbing both their attention. "To have this many brothers."

"Yes... I've been told a lot about you, but its still a little..." Ema scrunched up her nose.

"I'm happy I have two big sisters now!" Wataru holds Fae's arm, looking up at her. Fae smiles at how he handles this situation. "Hey, come up to my room, I'll show you my big bunnies!" He tugs at her arm.

"Wataru, you can do that later." Masaomi states, pulling the young boy away from Fae slightly.

"Okay..." Wataru agrees sadly.

"There are two others that live somewhere else and two that are away on business." Kaname reaches for the remote, pointing it at the television. "And one of those is him." Kaname turns the sound up on the television. On the flat screen appears a live performance of the famous Idol from the band Forrtê, Fuuto Asakura.

"It's Fuuto!" Wataru wiggles in his seat, grinning excitedly.

"Fuuto?" Ema questions, looking to the youngest in confusion.

"Talk about a phoney-looking smile." Tsubaki mumbles into a pillow, squeezing it tighter in his lap. Azusa chuckles at his twins displeasure in his younger sibling.

"Oh, he's on tour." Subaru realises, blinking.

"Now that you mention it, I haven't seen him around lately..." Iori stares at the television blankly.

"I heard he's in Hokkaido." Yuusuke adds, crossing his arms behind his head as he leans back.

"Then we'll ask him to bring back crabs or sea urchins as souvenirs," Ukyou said.

"Souvenirs?" Ema asks Fae, keeping her voice low.

"Fuuto is the second youngest brother. His stage name is Asakura, but he's actually Fuuto Asahina, age 15." Fae informs Ema as shock goes over her face.

"What? I can't believe it..." Ema mumbles. They all sit in silence watching the TV and Fae looks around at the people she now lives with. Fae looks over to her right and locks eyes with Kaname, who winks at her with a coy smile. Fae ignores him and goes back to the TV, watching Fuuto perform a song. Fae feels movement beside her and looks down to see Ema's head tilted down, her eyes close.

"Is something the matter?" Masaomi asks, worry evident in his voice.

"Oh, no, I just felt lightheaded for a second." Ema said giving him a reassuring smile, rubbing her forehead. Fae scowls, lifting her hand up to Ema's forehead. She was burning up. Fae frowns at Ema and stands before her and places her hands on Ema's shoulders.

"We should go upstairs," Fae whispers to her sister, trying to look her in the eye as Ema's head continued to roll forward.

"Y-Yeah." Ema mumbles before falling onto Fae's chest. Fae pats Ema's head soothingly, before taking her hands and helping her up, grabbing all the brother's attention.

"Is she alright?" Masaomi asks.

"She's got a fever, so I'm gonna take Emmie to her room." Fae informs, brushing back Ema's hair. "Would you mind joining us, Masaomi?"

"No, of course not." Masaomi follows after her, then looks over to the older brothers. "Ukyou, Kaname. Can you get me the medicine?" Masaomi calls as they reach the landing. Ema, Fae and Masaomi pack into the elevator as Masaomi presses the button.

"I'm sorry for the trouble." Fae apologises as she moves Ema's hair out from her face, then looks over to Masaomi.

"It's alright, I'm a paediatrician, so I know what to do," Masaomi reassures. They walk up to Ema's room, and Masaomi opens the door. Fae helps Ema sit up in her bed, adjusting the pillows for her.

"I knew you weren't well." Faes lip curls up at the edge, tucking Ema in the bed. Ema's face was flushed, but she managed to sigh through her nose and smile.

"That's because you know everything Fifi." Ema murmurs. There's a knock at the door, so Masaomi answers it as Fae closes the curtains. Seconds later Ukyo and Kaname enter with a pot of pills and a glass of water. Masaomi takes two pills and drops them in the water and hands it over to Ema, advising her to take two more when she wakes up. Ema nods obediently, drinking it down. Once empty, she hands the glass over to Fae who was currently kneeling by her bedside, waiting for anything she could help with. Fae covers Ema with a blanket again as Ukyo twists the light switch, the light dimming down.

"I apologise for alarming you. I'm fine now." Ema looks to each male. "I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologise, little sis." Kaname smiles. Ema sighs, relieved.

"And fortunately, we have a doctor in the house." Ukyo adds, gesturing to the eldest.

"I'm a paediatrician though. But you can come to see me for anything." Masaomi informs.

"Thank you very much. I really am fine now." Ema snuggles into the duvets, partially hiding her flushed face. Fae rolls her eyes and moves away, searching through the boxes. She finds a plastic box and removes two hazelnuts from inside before clicking her tongue for the squirrel. The creature jumped beside her, it's paws waiting for a treat.

"That's for your work today." Fae grins as she drops them before the drooling squirrel.

"Where are my treats?" Kaname appears beside her, dropping an arm across her shoulder.

"You were the work." Fae puts the box on Ema's dresser, leaving Kaname pouting as he mumbles something about a mean sister. Juli jumped up on Ema's headboard and held one of his nuts to his teeth, squeaking happily between each nibble.

"Sounds like you had a lot to deal with." A soft voice said as the door creaks open.

"Oh, I had no idea you had returned home." Kaname said to the man.

"Yup. I heard... people talking. So I came." Fae looks towards the door and smiles at the familiar face.

"Hi, Rui. Good to see you." Fae waves in greeting from Ema's bedside, standing up.

Rui, or Louis Asahina, 8th son. 21 years old. Current occupation: Beautician.

His light ash brown hair was put up in a loose ponytail and his fringe covering his mauve eyes. He wore a black top with a blue polka dot jacket and magenta jeans with a thick belt. Louis returns the greeting with a soft smile upon seeing an old friend, and Fae's smile broadens at the moon necklace around his neck. Fae looks over to Ema, who looked to her in confusion.

"This is Louis." Fae smiles, gesturing to Rui.

"I'm so sorry that you had to see me like this..." Ema looks down in embarrassment.

"You're not to blame, Chii." Juli perks up at this. "You had lots of things to get ready, then you are surrounded by lots of people on your first day, so it wore you out, right?" Louis asks, crouching next to Ema's bed.

"Oh, no..." Ema flushes, averting her eyes.

"Your hair... it's beautiful." Louis admires. "When your cold... gets better... let me do it for you." Ema sits there confused by Louis's question.

"Oh, Louis is a hair stylist," Ukyou tells the confused girl.

"I see." Ema nods in understanding and Louis gives a closed-eyed smile and tilts his head. Ema adjusts her position, sitting up.

"You don't feel dizzy, even when you sit up?" Masaomi asks as he observers her. Ema shakes her head.

"No, it looks like the medicine is working."

"I think she'll be fine now, but give her rice porridge for dinner," Masaomi advises Ukyou.

"Certainly." Ukyou agrees. Masaomi goes to leave her room. "I'll go prepare it now."

"Thank you very much," Ema said.

"Also when you use the bathroom today, please use the one on the 5th floor. The bath attached to this room is not working right now. There's a rough layout on your desk." Ukyou instructs, standing at the door with his brothers.

"Okay."

"No long baths now," Kaname warns with a grin.

"Thank you all for making us feel welcome." Fae gets up quickly and bows.

"Good night, little sis." Kaname winks before he shut the door. Fae turns to Ema and smiles.

"Lie down, I'll sort your things out for you while you rest," Fae said moving the boxes around already.

"I guess I have lots of brothers living under the same roof now..." Ema drifts off as Juli makes himself comfortable on her stomach.

"Yes, the siblings we always wanted." Fae sighs happily as she brushes back Ema's fringe, giving her a quick kiss.
