Hermione POV
A/N: That's Rainbow in the picture up there. Just thought I'd put it there for all of my wonderful readers :)
After Carolyn left, I decided to wander around for a bit. A long bit. Possibly getting lost. But that's not the point.
I am unexpectedly dive-bombed by a mass of light blue feathers. Looking up, I see Rainbow, her underbelly shining in the sunlight. She carries a note from the familiar paper of Carolyn's journal.
I take the note, and Rainbow flies off to who knows where. An hour, I think. Knowing Carolyn, she'll be gone much longer. I'm sure she'll find her way back. She always does...
I really hope no one saw me walk right into a table as I was lost in thought. Looking up, I see a table, two chairs, and the most beautiful sight that I've ever seen. Crystal-like water cascades gracefully off the stone, and walking to the edge, I can see much of Rivendell. A lone bird streaks across the cloudless sky. This is what I've been looking for.
Taking out some paper from my bag, I sit down at the table and begin to draw. I lose track of time until I hear someone approaching. Light footsteps, obviously running. Slightly heavy breathing, and an exhausted voice attempting to call my name.
Carolyn.
She waves to me as I look up to face her. Her eyes are filled with wonder, a light that I haven't seen in a while.
"How was-" I ask, but am quickly cut off.
"Legolas took me to this place and there were all these waterfalls and you could see everything and it was all blue and green and then the sun was coming down and-" she paused, gasping for breath. "And it was perfect and it was the most beautiful thing ever and you need to see it!" She stops, breathing heavily.
"Sounds interesting" I comment. I haven't seen her this excited in two years.
After she catches her breath, I ask, "Would you mind standing there?", pointing to the ledge.
"What for?" She questions as she walks.
"I'm drawing, and it would look a lot better with someone in it. Now, stare at the sky. Do that wistful look that you do when you're looking at the stars." I tell her.
"Wistful look?" She asks.
"You know, the What-is-my-destiny-maybe-it-lies-in-the-stars-I-wish-I-could-go-up-there look" I answer.
She rolls her eyes at first, but then does as I ask, and I start drawing again. Her slender form soon appears on the paper, looking up at the sky. I decide to draw the sky later, when the stars are out.
No sign of the stalker-bird. No unexpected discoveries...so far. Maybe today would just be a normal day, well, as normal as it gets with us.
And then I saw him.
