Chapter 4: Offer
P.O.V. Third
King sighed as he was once again jolted awake. He had just had the same dream that he had been having for the past few days. "So when do you think we should do it?" King heard Taiyang asked in a slightly hushed voice.
"I think tonight after dinner would nice. It'd surprise him if nothing else," Summer said in the hushed voice as Taiyang. King began to lean up hearing this and he could hear the two starting to stir behind him. "Shush, I think he's starting to wake up," Summer said as she looked at the male beside her.
King still a bit tired from just waking up wasn't paying attention to what the two were saying. "Hey, King," Summer said as she walked around the couch to look at the male. "Could you do us a favor and wake Ruby and Yang?" Summer asked as she looked at the male in front of her. King nodded hearing this and stood up before he began to walk towards Yang's room.
After a few minutes Summer saw King and Yang walk out of the room and walk into Ruby's. Summer smiled seeing this and then a rather strange thought crossed her mind. "What if he says no?" Summer asked as she looked at the male in front of her. Taiyang seemed a bit surprised hearing this and looked away a bit flustered.
"I . . . I don't know," Taiyang said as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer gained the same concerned look hearing this and then coughed slightly. She hadn't considered the idea that King might reject their invitation until now. Taiyang however was a bit more concerned with her cough at the moment.
"Are you okay?" Taiyang asked as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer nodded hearing this however Taiyang still seemed a bit alarmed. "Are you sure? Now that I look closely you do seem a bit under the weather," Taiyang said as she looked at the female in front of him.
Summer smiled slightly seeing this and nodded. "Yes, I'm fine," Summer said as she heard the kids chuckle as they all ran out of Ruby's room. Taiyang however didn't seem convinced by this.
"Even so, I'll take care of the groceries today. You can stay here and watch the kids, just-" Taiyang began as he walked up to the female in front of him and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Try to take it easy okay?" Taiyang asked as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer smiled slightly hearing this and watched as the male walked out of the house.
She had been trying to keep the matter to herself but the truth was that she had been feeling ill for most of the day. She even had to cancel a mission that she had been told about because she was afraid her condition might worsen before she could arrive. As Summer walked back to her room she thought about the town that she had been told about.
It had apparently been attacked by Grimm a few days and while she was hoping she could arrive and see if anyone had survived. Unknown to her however several people had made it out of the town thanks to the several alarms that they had put in place. One of these several fortunate figures was the child known as Dillon.
He was currently walking down the streets with his mother. He was holding her hand and he was rather tired. He hadn't stopped walking ever since they had left his hometown. "Mom," Dillion said in a tired voice as he looked up at the figure in front of him. When he said this the female looked down at him a bit concerned.
"Can we stop? My feet hurt," The male said as he looked up at the female in front of him. The female smiled hearing this and shook her head.
"No, we can't sweetie," The female said as she looked at the male before she reached down and picked up her child. "But I will carry you so that you can get off your feet," The female said as she looked at the male. Dillon smiled when she did and began to rest his head against her.
"Thanks mom," Dillon said as he looked at his mother. The female nodded hearing this and continued to walk down the path that they were on. It was several minutes before either of them said anything else. "Mom," Dillon said in a tired voice making it clear that he was about to fall asleep.
"Is dad going to be okay?" Dillon asked as he felt his eyes slowly begin to shut.
"I . . . don't know sweetie," The female confessed as she continued down the pathway still carrying Dillon. Unknown to her Dillon didn't hear what she had said as he had fallen asleep in her arms. The female smiled seeing this and continued to make her way down the streets still carrying her child.
After several hours the female heard some howling in the distance and began to walk at a slightly faster pace. She knew that the creatures of grimm were fast but she never expected them to be such persistent hunters. This had been the fourth time that she had heard them from the distance.
She tried to stay clam so that she wouldn't give off any negativity however this proved to be rather difficult when she knew that the creatures that had destroyed her town and quiet possibly killed her husband were still following her trying to kill not only her but her child as well. As she walked she once again heard another roar in the distance and went from a fast walk to running as fast as she could.
As she did Dillon began to wake up from the sudden feeling and saw that his mother was once again running. "Mom? What are you doing? What's wrong?" Dillon asked as he looked at the female that was currently carrying him. As she continued to run Dillon heard some howling in the distance and understood why she was running.
This only seemed to fuel the female's apparent fears since the sound seemed much closer than before. The female continued to run and after a few minutes she began to hear the creatures of grimm closing in around her. The female began to panic realizing this and began to think of anything she could do to save Dillon.
At this point she didn't really care about saving herself, all that mattered was that Dillon lived. The female then made a sharp and sudden turn as she strayed from the path that she had been following and made her way down a small hill. When she did she saw a large tree and smiled as she ran towards it.
She could see that the tree was sticking out of the ground slightly from just how large it was and began to hide under the massive tree. When she did she sighed as she sat down and tried to think of anything she could do to get them out of this situation. "Mom," Dillon said as he tugged on his mother's sleeve.
"Is everything okay?" Dillon asked as he looked at the female in front of him. The female smiled and nodded as she looked at the male in front of her.
"Yes, don't worry sweetie, everything's going to be okay," The female said as she took Dillon's hands and cupped them in her own. She didn't like lying to him, and she had done her best trying to teach him that he shouldn't lie as he grew up. The two then heard some more distant roars and the female tensed up hearing this.
However it was at this moment that she thought of something she could do to save her son. She once again cupped Dillon's hands in hers and looked at the male. Dillon didn't seem to be giving off that much negativity so she was sure that this would work. "Hey, Dillon I know that you liked playing with your friends. So why don't we play a game of our own?" The female said as she looked at the male in front of her.
Dillon nodded hearing this and the female smiled. "Okay, good because . . . we're going to play hide and seek," The female said as she looked at Dillon. The male smiled slightly hearing this and nodded, since this was one of his more favorite games.
"Okay, but . . . this game is going to be a bit different than the times we played before," The female said as he looked at the male in front of her. Dillon became a bit confused hearing this but not wanting to upset his mother simply nodded. "Firstly I need you to count to one thousand," The female said as she looked at her child.
"But mom that'll take forever!" Dillon complained as he looked at the female in front of him.
"I know sweetie," The female said as she gently stroked her child's cheeks. "But there's a good reason for that," She said with a smile as she pinched Dillon's cheeks playfully. "You see, I'm going to be hiding in a town that's not that far from here. It's named Riverdew, I'll be hiding there and you need to give me time to get there right?" The female said as she looked at the child in front of her.
Dillon didn't seem happy about this and nodded. The two once again heard some roars closing in on them and the female smiled as if nothing were wrong and continued to speak with her child. "When you're done counting, all you need to do is go to that path we were on and start walking down it again, understand?" The female asked as she looked at Dillon.
The child nodded and the female began to walk towards the exit only to stop when she felt Dillon tug on her sleeve. "You're going to be okay . . . right mom?" Dillon asked as he looked at the male in front of her. The female nodded hearing this with a smile and Dillon slowly extended his hand and stuck out his pinky.
The female smiled sadly seeing this and intertwined hers with his. "I promise," the female said as she looked at her child. "Just remember," The female chimed as she began to walk towards the exit. "No matter what you, no peeking," The female said as she turned and began to run back up the hill finally letting her negativity go so that she could attract the grimm to her and not her child.
Dillon stayed quiet for a moment as he thought about what his mother had told him. He didn't think she'd lie to him but she did seem a bit sad about what she was saying. He then shook his head trying to clear his head of these thoughts. "One . . . two . . . three," The male began doing as his mother had instructed of him. However as he continued unknown to him a male that had been in a situation quiet similar to his not to long ago was looking at summer.
"You know," King began as he looked up at the female in front of him causing her to jump slightly. When she did Summer turned to look at the small male and smiled slightly.
"Ah, King you shouldn't sneak up on people like that. You really scared me," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her.
"You shouldn't cook when you're sick," King said as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer seemed a bit surprised by this and smiled as she looked at King.
"I know but-" Summer began reached for a knife that she was going to use to cook only to get cut off by King.
"Go rest, I'll take care of dinner," King said as he looked at the female. Summer once again seemed more than surprised to hear this and smiled.
"That's really sweet of you King, but I can handle a bit of extra work when I'm sick," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her.
"No you can't now go rest, I'll handle it," King said as he took the knife away from Summer which was surprisingly easy in her rather dazed state.
"King I'm fine really, I just-" Summer began only to stop when she watched King begin to cut the few ingredients that she had gathered. Stopping only because King was surprisingly skilled with a knife.
"This isn't up for debate. Go to your room and get some rest," King said as he looked at the female as he once again showed how confident he was with his cooking as he took the pot that Summer had been filling with water and put the ingredients that he had cut into the pot.
"King I-" Summer began only to get cut off by King.
"Go to your room, or you're grounded young lady!" King said as he looked at the female in front of him, trying to scold her. Summer looked at the child in front of her with a slight smile and chuckled slightly as she looked at the male in front of her.
"Well I certainly don't want to get grounded," Summer said as she pretended to play along with what King was suggesting. Summer sighed as she began to make her way back to her room. If nothing else she was sure that Taiyang would cook when he got back from shopping. Summer sighed as she once again began to lay down on her bed.
She had to admit it was rather nice getting a day to herself were she could just relax. As she did however she began to slowly drift off to sleep. As she did the child that at the moment had been slowly working his way up to the number one thousand continued to count starting to get a little excited since he was close to being finished.
"Nine hundred ninety-nine . . . ONE THOUSAND!" Dillon said rather excitedly as he stood up from the area he had been sitting. He then walked out from under the large tree that he had been hiding under and began to make his way up the large hill. It didn't take him long to find the path that his mother had been on and he smiled as he walked towards it.
When he arrived he struggled for a minute to remember which direction his mother had been walking however after a few brief seconds of thought he remembered and began to walk down the path. As he walked he thought about where he should look whenever he arrived in this new town however as he did he realized something.
He didn't know what this new town looked like so he wouldn't know where to start looking. He could always try looking in random buildings but that would take to long. As he continued to walk down the path Dillon's feet once again began to hurt and he began to notice just how dark it was getting. As he continued down the path that he was on he heard the same howling that he had been hearing for the past few days and began to feel a small amount of fear build inside of him.
As it did Dillon began to run down the path now feeling like something was chasing him. Despite the fact that he couldn't see or hear anything he could see feel the looming presence of something behind him and suddenly stopped and much like his mother had done began to run down the hill that the path was on. Dillon stopped in front of one of the nearby trees and began to sit against it now breathing heavily in an attempt to calm himself.
It seemed to be working at first however he once again heard the same roars as before and he once again began to panic. Dillon didn't spend much time thinking about what he should do and instead did the first thing that came to mind which was climb the tree that he was currently leaning against. When he reached one of the higher branches he began to calm down a bit thinking that he was now safe from the creatures of grimm.
Dillon looked around confused as how his mom didn't get scared in situations like this. Dillon then began to lean against the tree from before and slowly closed his eyes as he thought about his mom and all the stories she would tell him as he was falling asleep. Dillon always loved hearing the stories about the four maidens or the silver eyed warriors. As he thought about what his mom was doing Dillon slowly felt himself begin to drift off to sleep.
As he did a female far away was just beginning to wake up. Summer smiled as she stood up from the bed she had been laying on now feeling much better than before. Summer walked towards the door and as soon as she opened the first thing she noticed was the aroma that seemed to be filling the whole house. Summer followed the smell and saw the rest of her family all sitting at the table eating.
"Oh, there you are Summer," Taiyang said with a smile as he looked at the female in front of him. "I wanted to wake you but the kids wouldn't let me," Taiyang said with a sigh as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer smiled hearing this and smiled as she walked over to the table. "So what's for dinner?" Summer asked as she looked at what the male was eating which appeared to be a cake of some kind.
"I don't know," Taiyang said as he looked at what he was eating. "But it sure is great, I don't know why you haven't made this before but it's delicious," Taiyang said as he looked at his wife causing King to look at him with a slightly annoyed look on his face. Summer chuckled seeing the glare that King was giving Taiyang and sat down where an extra piece had been laid out for her.
"You know," Summer began as she looked at King. "When you said you were going to cook this wasn't what I had in mind," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her. King's face turned a bit red hearing this and he turned away as he looked at the female pouting slightly.
"I only know how to make cakes," King said pouting slightly. Summer chuckled seeing this and reached down to try a bite and as she did she was a bit surprised at how good it tasted. "I know it's not as good as your food, but still," King said as he looked at the female in front of him. Summer smiled slightly hearing this and nodded.
"No, it's fine sweetie," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her. King smiled slightly hearing this and the five continued to eat until it was time for them to sleep. As they did they all began to make their way towards their beds. King once again began to sleep on the couch and as he covered himself Ruby and Yang both walked up to the male.
"Goodnight King," Ruby said as she looked at the male in front of her with a smile.
"Goodnight Ruby," King said as he looked at the female in front of him with a smile. Ruby smiled hearing this and stepped back slightly waiting for Yang. "Goodnight Yang," King said as he looked at the blonde in front of him.
"Goodnight King," Yang said as she looked at the male in front of her. The two began to walk away and King smiled as he looked at the two in front of him. "Du luvha ayi," King said as he looked at the two in front of him. However when he said this the two stopped and turned to look at him.
"What?" Ruby asked as she looked at the male in front of her. King smiled hearing and shook his head.
"Nothing, it's just a small bit of Trigelphian," King said as he looked at the female in front of him.
"Oh, okay!" Ruby chimed with a smile as she looked at the male in front of her. "Well then, Du luvha ayi to you too!" Ruby said as she began to walk away. Yang smiled hearing this and waved as she began to walk to her room. King smiled as he watched the two slowly disappear from sight before he closed his eyes and began to drift off to sleep.
As he did however Dillon was just beginning to wake up. He hadn't been asleep for very long and the only reason he had woken up so soon was because he had a nightmare. As he looked around he noticed that it was still incredibly dark but it seemed to be a little less dark now that the shattered moon had finally rose.
Dillon waited for several seconds listening for anything the resembled a grimm. After several minutes of not hearing anything Dillon slowly climbed down the tree and walked back over to the path. As he did he once again felt the presence of something looming behind him. However just like before whenever he turned around to see who or what was following him he saw nothing.
Dillon once again felt his paranoia begin to take over and like before once again felt himself gripped with fear. However Dillon closed his eyes and continued down the path he was on. Dillon knew that if he kept running away every time he got scared then he'd never be able to see his mother again and finish their game. However as time continued Dillon heard something that quickly changed his mind about what he was doing.
He heard a low growl from behind him, not even bothering to look behind him. Dillon once again broke into a full sprint and began to run down the path. As he did he could hear whatever was following him approaching him rather quickly. When it sounded like it was just a few feet away Dillon suddenly turned and like before ran down the hill. When he did he saw the creature that had attempted to lunge at him.
It was a Beowolf and it had just barely missed him. Dillon tripped from the shock of what he had just seen and as he slid down the hill he could hear the creature once again approaching him. When he finally came to a stop Dillon looked around and saw a tree that was very similar to the one him and his mother had been hiding under the day before. However this one seemed much smaller as the space between the foots and ground was barely big enough for a child to fit under.
Dillon of course made his way to the small area as quick as he could and began to hide under it. When he did he heard a loud thud and felt the tree above him shake slightly. This was quickly followed by a loud roar as the Beowolf tried to reach the child. Dillon continued to crawl under the tree trying to get as far away from the creature as possible. He continued until he emerged on the other side of the tree.
After taking a few seconds to look and make sure no creatures of grimm were around Dillon crawled out and began to run away from the tree. He could hear the Beowolf from before still roaring from the other side of the tree and he didn't want to risk it figuring out that he had escaped from the other side. He ran for several minutes before he once again returned to the path from before.
However even then he didn't stop running as he continued down the path. As he ran however he once again heard the creatures from before approaching him and continued to run down the path. As he did he felt a small amount of tears build in his eyes, he didn't want to die. He wanted to see him mom and dad again! As he continued to run a thin layer of aura covered him before turning into electricity.
When it did the male suddenly began to move faster than he ever had before and with a loud boom he was out of the creatures sight in a matter of seconds. However it seemed as if the electricity had a small drawback as it sent the male into a massive amount of pain causing him to trip and come to a sudden stop. When he did the electricity disappeared and Dillon slowly got up off the ground now in much more pain than before.
"O-ow," Dillon said as he once looked behind him. At least the grimm that were following him weren't around now. Dillon then began to make his way down the path moving much slower than before due to the injuries he had just obtained. Dillon continued down the path for several hours however a smile finally formed on his face as he felt a few rays from the sun finally make their presence known.
Dillon looked up and his smile only grew as in the distance he saw a town. He began to run towards it trying to ignore the pain that he was in and when he was close enough to read the sign he smiled seeing that he had arrived at Riverdew. Dillon smiled as he ran into the town ignoring the several stares that he was obtaining in the process. Dillon looked around the town that he had just arrived in with a smile.
However after walking around for a few minutes his smile began to fade. He hadn't seen a single sign of his mother yet. Dillon continued to look becoming more and more discouraged as he did. However as he continued to look he suddenly heard some footsteps suddenly approaching him from behind. Now not being as scared as he was before he turned to see what was running towards him. However when he did he saw his mother who bent down and came to a stop in front of the male before hugging him tightly with tears in her eyes.
"You're okay! You're okay! My Babyboy's okay!" The female said as she continued to hold the female in front of her. Dillon smiled seeing this some tears now beginning to build in his eyes as well, but he wasn't sure why. He wasn't sad after all, so he wasn't sure why he was crying.
"I missed you mom!" Dillon said as he continued to return the female's embrace. After a few minutes had passed it seemed like the two had finally calmed down and the female leaned down to pick him up.
"Come on, I'll take you to our new home," The female said with a smile as she began to make her way towards the hotel that she had been staying in. As they did King was once again jolted awake due to the same nightmare that he seemed to be plagued with. King sighed as he stood up, and like the day before he could hear a few others talking behind him. Like before he disregarded what they were saying still being incredibly tired.
The four all walked in and looked at the male and for whatever reason Ruby seemed to be a bit more happy than usual. "So, King we have a few questions we'd like to ask you," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her. King became a bit nervous hearing this and looked at the four in front of him.
"Am I in trouble?" King asked as he looked at the two adults in front of me. Summer smiled hearing this and shook her head.
"No, nothing like that," Summer said as she looked at the male in front of her. "So King, what do you think of our family?" Summer asked as she looked at the male in front of her. King was bit confused hearing this but decided to answer anyway.
"You're all really nice," King said with a smile as he looked at Summer.
"I . . . I think that's all we really needed to know," Summer said as she leaned down so that she was now eye level with the child in front of her. "Honestly, I'm not sure what to say in a situation like this. So I think I'll get straight to the point," Summer said with a slight smiled as she looked at the male in front of her.
"Do you want to be apart of our family?" Summer asked as she looked at the male in front of her. King was more than shocked hearing this and looked at the others in front of him.
"A-are you sure?" King asked as he looked at the others in front of him.
"Yeah," Taiyang said as he looked at the child in front of him. "I think you'd make a great big brother for these two. Protect them from anyone that might hurt them and all," Taiyang said as he looked at the male in front of him. King once again found himself a bit shocked hearing this and Summer smiled as King once again turned to look at her.
"So what do you say King? Do you want to stay with us?" Summer asked as she extended her hand towards the male in front of her.
