This story is entirely in your POV. The other character, in this type of writing style, never exists in the first place. It is rather a fictional character that is to be designed by the reader itself and hence is addressed as the reader's partner by the writer (i.e me.) 

Faded is a short story which goes through a person's agonizing experience of losing someone important and going through a not so normal life like common people. It's rather disturbed and a fluctuating lifestyle that has changed the person's thoughts about life which is described as a rotten hell. 

However, when this person (which here is the reader) meets a cheerful spirit, that is the partner, it successfully changes the person's thoughts and gives a hope that life can be as beautiful as fairytales describe. 

But, like how not all situations are as beautiful as fairytales, the person's partner was killed and the person was stabbed too in an unfortunate situation which turns out to be the result of the person's sinful deed. The story then progresses to describe the feelings of the person, on the night when his beloved partner died in the hospital, and life after that.
