Kill two birds in one stone :D

I guess I'll do a dual one then split it off few facts later.

1. 

Maribel Hearn and Renko Usami were both introduced in Ghostly Field Club, an official doujin album by Team Shanghai Alice and was released on December 30, 2003.

So basically, they were introduced on December 30, 2003 :O

(2003!?!?!?! I'm starting to change my mind about these two XD)

2.  Just worth mentioning, two albums in "ZUN's Music Collection" contains Seihou Project music, due his involvement in the first two Seihou games.

3. They are specifically interested in Gensokyo which makes them the few characters (or even the only humans) that know of Gensokyo's existence.

4. They both live in Kyoto.

5. Both are members of the Secret Sealing Club, the same one that Sumireko made.

6. The club usually describes itself as a club for necromancers, but the two actually find spirits and such, which is clearly not what necromancers do.

Now we can go deeper and describe the two!

Renko Usami

1. Renko is a Human.

2. Renko goes a university and has a super-unified physics major. (she smart)

3. Even though Renko lives in Kyoto, her house is seemingly in Tokyo.

4. The kanji for "Renko" (蓮子) literally means "lotus child" respectively.

[Usami is just a name. DON'T YOU DARE GOOGLE TRANSLATE IT]

5. Renko has the power to tell time by looking at the stars and placement of the moon.

[basically a living a GPS.]

6. Unfortunately she can only tell it in JST time. If Renko wanted to know the current EST, she would need to calculate the time conversions.

7. It is speculated that Renko is somehow related to Sumireko; Renko being a possible descendent from Sumireko.

8. Renko is often seen with bunny ears in fanworks due to her name sounding like "Usamimi" (rabbit ears, in Japanese). 

9. Fandom would usually think Renko as a counterpart to Reimu, though Renko isn't linked to Reimu in any significant way.

10. Renko is most often paired with Maribel, either as friends or romantically.   

We're done with Renko, now for Merry!

Maribel Hearn

1. Maribel is often nicknamed as "Merry". Actually Renko uses that as a pet name because she can't pronounce it well.

2. Merry is a University student. She has a Relative Psychology major.

3. Maribel comes from a lineage which has had the ability to see the supernatural since long ago.

4. Because of this, Merry has the ability to see through boundaries.

5. Along with Renko, she's part of the Secret Sealing Club.

6. Maribel's hometown and home country is unclear; she probably lived in Japan for a long time that she can speak fluently in Japanese.

7. Maribel often visits Gensokyo in her dreams and is sometimes chased by youkai. She can also bring back physical items from Gensokyo.

8. This means that her ability to see boundaries perhaps evolved to manipulating boundaries.

9. Overtime, Maribel's powers have grown even stronger, such as seeing beyond boundaries and traveling through worlds while awake.

10. She can also take Renko to travel across boundaries, though Renko would think that it's a dream and not a reality.

11. An example of that happening was when Maribel got injured by a Chimera while Renko didn't.

There are numerous theories that Maribel is somehow related towards Yukari. 

13. One example is their appearance. Both have the same hair color and (in most official portrayals) eye color. In addition, they are wearing some combination purple and red on their clothing. They also wear a bonnet.

14. Both Yukari and Renko have the ability to see boundaries. Even though Merry's ability was just seeing boundaries, it evolved to a more advanced kind of boundary seeing, possibly manipulating boundaries.

15. Yukari Yakumo isn't her original name and chose that just because she wanted it. Maribel feels like her name is forgotten because Renko always calls her "Merry".

16.  ZUN mentioned that there was a relation between them, though he only said something about Lafcadio Hearn. Nothing else was revealed but that.

17. Maribel might be a foreigner.

18. Maribel has no relatives living in Japan.

19. Maribel hates lycoris (flowers that represent death) ever since she was child because "they're creepy."
