Letters
Your POV
Today was my first day at the BAU. Graduating at the top of my class had its perks, but I heard there was another genius on the team.
Wondering if we would be able to be friends, from our shared spacious knowledge, I tilted my head.
Walking into the building I sighed gently, hearing the phones ring in the distance and seeing a couple people bustle by me as they tried to get to their second destination quickly.
Humming for a moment I looked around to see if I could find the man who was to be my supervisor from this point on, Aaron Hotchner.
Finding his office open I knocked on the door for a moment, he looked at me and I gulped gently.
"You must be (y/n)" he said as he rose a hand towards the chair in front of his desk. "take a seat, please " nodding as I walked over to the office chair and sat down.
"You're new the the team, and difficult as that can be, the team you're going to be apart of is very welcoming. Your desk is out in the bullpen next to Reid's."
Nodding as he handed me a couple of things that I looked at for a moment before looking at him. Hearing some clicking heels and a knock at the door we turned to see who it was.
A blonde with a sweet smile was at the door. "sir, we have a case." Hotch nodded before he looked at me.
"You can meet the rest of the team in the conference room while we go over the case "
Nodding I followed him quickly out of the room and down the hall. Getting into the room there was a large round table with some others already sitting around it. Sir Arthur's nights of the round table anyone?
Putting the file that was given to me in front of me while I stayed next to Hotch he got their attention.
"Everyone this is SSA agent (y/n) (l/n). She is to be joining our team from this point forth."
Hotch turned to me and gave me a nod before we split to sit at the table. Hearing someone speak up I turned to see a muscular man, with a black goatee.
"You must be the girl genius I've heard about " he said as he smiles before sipping his coffee.
Smiling gently as I sat down I opened the file.
"You can just call me genius if you like that's fine "
He chuckled. "oh ho! She's got jokes. Looks like she's going to give you a run for your money, huh pretty boy?"
Looking over there was a thin kid, that had a cardigan sweater and a vest underneath it. He was the only other one who had a paper file, unlike the rest who had tablets.
"Unless she has an eidetic memory I think my money will be just fine, thanks "
Clearing my throat I spoke up. 'i actually have a photographic memory and have no desire to take your money."
We were briefed and were on our way to the jet. Looking around the jet I sat with the blonde from earlier.
She smiled at me before giving me her hand to shake. "I'm Jennifer Jerau, but everyone calls me JJ."
Nodding gently I smiled. "it's nice to meet you JJ."
Turning as someone spoke up, I smiled gently to see the same man from earlier. "I'm Morgan. That one over there is Reid." He said as he pointed to the one from earlier. The pretty boy, as he called him.
Hotch sat down and we opened the file, getting ready to go over it. "(y/n) what are your first impressions?"
Blinking for a moment I nodded gently. "The unsub certainly has a type. Being petite women, and they're all dressed as dolls? The unsub could believe that they're just playthings, meant to be played with for a short while and then discarded."
He nodded as he looked over to the rest of us. "This unsub keeps the victims for a short while, during that time she makes them clothes, and puts make up on them, all while keeping them paralized "
Hearing the pretty boy leave the back of the plane and get closer to us, he spoke quickly and clearly.
"The unsub used a couple chemicals called, atracurium and doxacurium chloride. Both muscle relaxers and neural inhibitors, the victims would be awake but unable to move, similar to locked in syndrome."
"What's locked in syndrome?" JJ asked.
I spoke up first. "locked in syndrome otherwise known as pseudocoma, happens with a patient that cannot communicate verbally or move from muscle paralysis. It's common with coma patients that have been previously thought to be paralized. These patients can move their eyes and blink, while following movements but that's generally it."
Nodding gently as I was finished we landed and got to work on the case. I could sense that things didn't go according to plan with Reid since the conference room, I was certain he thought I was replacing him. Thinking of something to do to fix it I decided I would get to work on it, on the way home. Hopefully he would hear me out.
~After the Case~
I had gotten done writing a letter to Reid as we landed. Getting up and grabbing a bag that I had managed to barely pack in time, I sighed as I looked at the lanky agent. Stepping over as it was just the two of us I gulped.
"Reid? Can I have a moment of your time?"
He looked at me as he put his satchel over his shoulder and nodded.
"I'm not the greatest with socialization, something that happens as a result from having the IQ that the both of us have. I did write you this though, Ive always been better with words on paper than ones from my own mouth so, if you would, could you read it? E-even though it would only take you a couple seconds to do that."
Looking at him as I held the folded letter he smiles gently and nodded. "I will read and memorize every word " he said as I smiled.
"Great, you can write back if you'd like. You can leave it on my desk tomorrow if you get to the BAU before me " I said as I followed him off the jet.
Little did I know that the letter wrote to him would be the first of many we shared. Each one of mine I get from him being documented in folders along with copies of mine as they were received back and forth. Smiling as I enjoyed the silent ride home, remembering what I wrote.
Dear, Dr. Spencer Reid.
I understand that you might think I'm taking your job or replacing you, but I assure you I'm not. Like you, i have an IQ of 187 and do enjoy reading. If you did decide to read this and didn't just throw it out, then I would love to share some of my favorite books with you. I've been looking to expand my library, so maybe you could tell me some of your favorites? I really hope we could be friends, since they say that you become closest to those you share common things with. The only one in the team that I do, is you. So what do you say, Spence? Do you want to take me up on my offer, and be friends?
Intellectually yours, (y/n)
