Chapter Four: "Pineapple."
Shikamaru's POV (Ha! Bet you didn't see that coming, now did you?):
"He has my hair but his facial features, aren't like mine at all. And his eyes they kinda remind me of..." My whisper trailed off as I met Sakura's eyes and we came to the same conclusion.
"Temari!"
"Oi!"
We turned towards the voice to find non other than Temari herself standing in a tree looking down at us.
"What about me?"
'Oh Kami-sama help me. Why did she have to visit today!'
"Temari!" Sakura yelled waving to her.
I watched as Temari jumped, did a backflip and landed gracefully in front of us.
"Sakura. Shikamaru." Temari said nodding to us. We nodded back.
"Who's the brat?" She said gesturing to Shikadai. "Cousin?"
Before I could answer Shikadai turned around and saw Temari. First he was shocked before fear crowded his features and he bowed to her.
"Okaa-san! I'm so sorry. Please let me explain what happened and how, or why we're here!" Shikadai said quickly.
To say Temari looked shocked was an understatement. Her jaw literally dropped.
"Uh, sorry kid. But I think you have the wrong person. I don't remember having any kids." Temari said as she studied him.
Shikadai looked up with a relieved expression before it went back to it's usual bored one.
"Of course you don't. You've never met me before. Freaked out for no reason... Troublesome..." Shikadai said, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
Temari looked at me for an explanation. I sighed and started walking away from the group, gesturing her to follow me.
When we were at a safe distance Temari started the conversation.
"Nara. Explanation. Now." She demanded settling her hands on her hips.
"Yeah, okay okay. Troublesome woman." I stuffed my hands in my pockets using my nickname for her.
She rolled her eyes and I started my explanation.
"Shikadai isn't my cousin. He uh..." I felt a slight blush on my cheeks and rubbed the back of my neck as I prayed to Kami-sama she wouldn't kill me.
I sighed. "He's our son."
Temari's POV:
I watched as he rubbed the back of his neck and sighed.
"He's our son."
I couldn't help the little blush that ran across my cheeks.
"Excuse me?!"
Okay so maybe I liked Shikamaru just a little bit. I spent to much time with the guy! Whenever I was in Konoha he was my escort. Occasionally he would treat me to dinner when I didn't have money.
But only because of that! No other reason. Nope.
"He's uh, from the future." He finished looking down as a light shade of pink tainted his cheeks.
Is he hiding it from me? Oh no you don't, smart-ass.
"Oh my Kami-sama!" I exclaimed like something horrible was happening.
His head snapped up and he grabbed my shoulders looking me over for injuries. When he saw nothing wrong he was about to pull away when I grabbed his face with one hand and he froze, the pink on his cheeks growing slightly more noticeable.
"Are you seriously blushing, pineapple?"
"Troublesome woman." He mumbled pushing my hand away from his face.
"Pineapple." I retorted.
He rolled his eyes. "I'm not a pineapple."
"But your hair sure does look like one." I argued crossing my arms before sighing. "This better not be some practical joke, Nara. How on earth could he be from the future?"
He shook his head. "Shikadai said something about a scroll to who I'm guessing is Choji's kid. So I'm guessing somebody from they're time developed a justu of some sort making it possible to travel back in time."
"Time travel, huh? Who would've thought." I said looking off into space.
"And a kid with the pineapple himself. Never would've imagined." I said tapping my chin.
"Hm. You got lucky." Shikamaru mumbled.
I raised an eyebrow at his statement. "Really. How so?"
"You really wanted to marry one of your suitors from Suna?" He deadpanned.
I visibly shivered. "You got me there... But how about you, Nara? Did you get lucky?"
He sweat dropped. "Oh yeah, of course I did. I get to marry one of the scariest kunoichis in the world. Way to go Shikamaru."
I lightly punched his arm. "Shut it pineapple. At least now you have somebody to protect you, crybaby."
I could've sworn I saw a small smile tug at his lips before his usual bored expression returned.
I turned my attention to the kid who supposedly is our son. He was talking to this kid with pale skin, pale blonde hair, and blue eyes. Obviously Sai and Ino's kid. And a chubby girl with dark skin and sort of red hair. Choji's kid no doubt.
But when my eyes landed on our son, I felt like he was the most precious thing in the world to me. I felt like he needed to be protected at all costs. If necessary, I would give my life for his safety and well being.
"Shikadai."
I let the name play in my mouth. It was perfect.
He had his dad's hair, that's for sure. But his facial features? All mine. He even had my eyes. Which didn't look too bad.
A small smirk formed on my face knowing he would probably have a cross between Shikamaru and I's personalities. He would be a lazy sarcastic kid who would probably give up on a lot of things.
I looked over to Shikamaru to find him doing the same thing. Studying our son.
"So." I said making him turn to look at me. "Temari Nara, huh? Doesn't sound too bad."
He smirked. "Not really no."
We stood there staring at each other for a minute before Shikadai came slowly walking up to us with his hands in his pockets. Yet another habit inherited from his dad.
"What a drag." Shikadai stated. "Can you guys stop staring at each other for five seconds?"
My eyes snapped away from Shikamaru's and I turned to Shikadai. Giving him my absolute complete attention. His eyes widened in fear.
"What was that?" I asked him, reaching for my fan.
"N-nothing okaa-san! I was just about to tell you how great you looked when you were younger." Shikadai said relaxing his shoulders a bit, seeming pleased with his excuse.
I was about to swing my fan at the brat but Shikamaru put his hand on my shoulder. He gave me a, 'let-it-drop' kind of look, so I did.
I sighed and Shikamaru let his hand drop from my shoulder before stuffing it back in his pocket.
"Your lucky." I growled at Shikadai. He nodded before turning his head away.
I sighed as my anger levels decreased. "Great. I get to deal with two lazy men in the future."
Shikamaru shrugged. "Not my fault you married me."
"You didn't have to ask me to." I deadpanned.
"Maybe I wont." He fired back at me, making me roll my eyes. "Yeah right. You'll probably give up on trying not to."
"Try me."
"Do you really want me to?"
"Hey!" Shikadai yelled getting our attention. "Lets not make any rash decisions. I kinda like my life."
I sighed. "Sorry, brat. But if your, father, is to lazy to ask me out. You won't exist. Guess it's up to him, now isn't it. Shikamaru." My voice was practically dripping with venom as I said his name.
Shikamaru and Shikadai visibly shivered.
"Otou-san..." Shikadai warned, backing away from me.
"I know kid." Shikamaru said in a low voice.
I smirked as my body flickered into existence behind them. I kicked Shikamaru's legs out from under him and Shikadai turned around to met my teal eyes with his own.
He gulped. "Okaa-san, come on. I ate my breakfast this morning and I tried to stop that idiot from opening the scroll. And I only slept in the academy for a few minutes!"
I reached out my hand towards him and he grimaced, closing his eyes. My hand landed softly on his head as I cupped his face.
His eyes opened and widened from shock. "Okaa-san?"
I studied his eyes. They were teal. Mine. He had my eyes.
"Hm." I released him and settled my hands on my hips. "Guess you really are my kid."
He sighed in relief. Probably thankful I didn't do to him what I did to his dad. Speaking of..
I looked down at Shikamaru to find him laying on his back staring up at the clouds. Shikadai shrugged and laid down next to him. I sighed at the sight of it.
'My future son. And my future husband. I guess I can live with it.'
I shook my head as small smile formed on my face and laid down on the opposite side of Shikamaru than Shikadai.
And we laid there. Watching the clouds floating by.
