Chapter 5- Damion

I held her hand as she was asleep in the bed, her whole body not moving. My heart ached in my chest because I couldn't see her eyes and wished that I could. I missed hearing her laugh or say a retort to a stupid question that someone had asked.

I kissed her freezing lips and sighed, pulling away. "Come back to me, Beth," I whispered, squeezing her hand. "Please, I-I don't know what to do without you." I moved a hand through my hair and glanced at the clock to see that it was almost midnight. I had been in here for over four hours, and there had been little to no movement from her.

"Alpha," someone said from behind me, and I turned that way. The pack doctor, Bridget, stood there with a male beside her. She bowed her head in respect, the male following in her footsteps. "This is Roger. He's a friend of Luna Jessica."

"Alpha," he said, bowing his head. "It is finally nice to meet you. Jessica has talked about you and your mate."

I nodded in greeting. I was hesitant as to why this Hunter was here and wondered why Bridget brought him here without asking me first. "Is there something I can help you with?" I asked, and he shook his head, no.

"No, Alpha," he replied, and I raised an eyebrow. "But I can help you." He glanced at my mate before looking at me. "May I sit?" he asked, gesturing to the chair on the other side of my mate.

I hesitated but nodded my head. "Why are you here?" I asked. "What do you mean by you helping me?"

"Your mate isn't just half human, half Wolf," Roger said, not answering my question. He sat down next to her and pulled out a strange looking device. "May I take some of her blood?" he asked, gesturing to my sleeping mate. "It's safe. Both Jessica and Bridget's daughter had this done to them."

I looked at Bridget curiously, and she looked down. "Daughter?" I asked, and she nodded hesitantly. "I didn't know that you had a daughter."

"I have a mate, too," she said, honestly. She glanced at Roger, and he nodded. "However, for both the safety of my daughter and my mate, I had to leave them."

"Why?" I asked. I had no idea how she was surviving without her mate and daughter, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I could not focus with my mate being in a coma like state, so she was doing better than I.

"My mate is a Hunter/Werewolf Hybrid, sort of," she replied. She looked down and sighed. "His Hunter gene is activated but not his Werewolf. However, he has a strand in his DNA that can pass both to our child."

"This strand can make the child into a weapon that could be used to destroy the Werewolf population," Roger added. "She is powerful, which means that we have to keep her safe."

"But, what does this have to do with Bethany Ann?" I asked, furrowing my brows in confusion.

"I think that she is like that," Bridget said. "That was why I wanted some of her blood."

"However, I needed a fresh sample. My job is to make sure that they stay safe and the bad Hunters can't get them," Roger said. "I took this job from Jessica's grandfather when the group of Hunters killed him."

"Bad Hunters?" I asked, and he nodded. "Is this like a project to make super weapons?" I asked again, and he nodded.

"I am not at liberty to say its name," he said. "We are trying to destroy whatever information that they have gathered on the people that might have this gene. However, we need to do it quietly for the safety of different packs. If they find out that there is more, then it could be dangerous."

I furrowed my brow and looked at my mate. "If you find out what you are looking for, what will you do with the information?" I asked.

"Destroy it," he replied. "I do not think you want the group of Hunters at your doorstep." He gave me a knowing smirk, and I scowled. "If anything does happen, Bridget will let me know, and we will send help."

I took my mate's hand in mine and nodded my head. "Do it," I said. "But, as you had promised, destroy it. I do not want someone getting hold of that information."

Roger nodded his head. "Yes, Alpha," he said before taking the blood from my mate. He looked at the data when it dinged and nodded his head, his face grim. "We will keep an eye on her," he promised. "She can be used as a weapon."

I leaned back in my seat and let out a small breath. My beautiful mate was both a Hunter and a Werewolf. "Will she be able to shift?" I asked, rubbing the back of her hand.

"Yes," Roger replied. He cleared his throat and stood. "Let's hope that she will shifter later rather than sooner. If not and her Hunter abilities awaken, then they will be able to find her."

I nodded my head and stood. "Thank you for coming." I glanced at Bridget, and she looked down. "Next time, please do inform me of your arrival. Next time, I might not be so kind."

Roger smirked but nodded his head. "Of course, Alpha." He bowed his head. "Good luck." And with that, they both left.

I took a deep breath and sat back down beside my mate. I looked at the machine that showed everything and couldn't help but wonder what she would like if she shifted. "Goddess," I whispered. "Protect her."
