Chapter 32- Damion's POV
My mate tucked her head closer to her chest and bit back a small snort as soon as those words left my sister's lips. "Now, do you want something to eat?" she asked, changing the subject while she raised an eyebrow in question and stared at her, studying her in a way that only she could do. "There are some leftovers in the fridge of what we had for breakfast if you want some."
My sister smiled and shook her head, and guilt filled her eyes while she looked between the two of us. "I am not hungry," she said, and we could tell that she was lying. "I have already eaten before I had gotten here, and I do not want to intrude. Thanks, though. I do appreciate it."
My mate scowled and rolled her eyes, pressing her lips into a thin line because she knew full well that my sister was lying. "Get food from the fridge, Cassandra," she said and scowled, narrowing her eyes and setting her jaw. "You are not intruding at all, and I do not know why you think that you are."
My little sister hesitated and looked at me before she looked at my mate. She didn't say a word and made no move toward the fridge or to the island to sit down.
Bethany Ann sighed and shook her head, pursing her lips in annoyance. She started to wash her hand, even though we weren't done with the dishes, which I didn't mind and cocked her head toward me. "Damion, do you think you can finish the dishes by yourself?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
I bit back a small smile and slowly nodded. "Go ahead and do what you need to do, Beth," I said, with a small chuckle in my voice because I knew what she wanted to do. "I can finish this."
She grunted and nodded before she turned around and walked over to the stove to wipe her hands on a dish rag. "Go ahead and sit at the island, Cassandra," she said, leaving no room for her to argue.
"But..." Sandra started but stopped as soon as she received a warning look from my mate. She sighed and slowly nodded, silently relenting without another fight. "Ok. Thank you, Bethany." She walked over to the island and shot me a glare when she heard me chuckle, amused.
"Shut up, Dammie," she said with a small scowl on her face and narrowed eyes. "It's not my fault that I don't want to intrude, especially after you and her finished dishes and breakfast already."
"If you were intruding, then I wouldn't have offered to feed you, Cassandra," Bethany Ann said and gave her a pointed look. "You should know this by now."
My sister hesitated and slowly nodded, pressing her lips into a thin line. "I know," she said, "but that doesn't stop everything, especially because of everything I had done to you in the past..."
My mate scoffed a laugh and rolled her eyes while she started to fix my sister a plate. "It wasn't the worst thing that I have been through, so you don't have to worry about it. You have also grown up a lot since then, so I do not blame you at all."
Sandra breathed a small sigh of relief before she slowly nodded with a small smile on her face. "Ok," she said before she cleared her throat and shifted in her seat. "Thank you, Beth."
Bethany Ann nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line. She did not say a word and finished making her a plate before she walked over to the island where my sister was waiting for her.
I finished the dishes and started the dishwasher before I walked over to the other side and started to put the food away after my mate was finished with it.
"Did you want something to drink, Sandra?" Bethany Ann asked and raised an eyebrow in question, setting the plate in front of her.
My sister nodded in confirmation. "Orange Juice please," she said, and I nodded and grabbed the juice from the fridge and handed it to my mate when she walked over to it. "Thank you, Dammie and Beth."
"Of course, Sandra," I said and nodded. I watched as my mate poured her a glass of orange juice before she handed the glass to her and the bottle to me. "So why are you here again?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Or did you come to gossip?"
"Come to gossip and meet the new family," Sandra said and shrugged while she ate. "I mean, they are going to be my new brother and sister in laws basically."
"Technically, they are mine and not yours, Sandy," I said and stuck my tongue out at her, and she rolled her eyes and scowled.
"They are mine too, Dammie," she said and narrowed her eyes playfully. She cleared her throat and grew serious, and she shifted from side to side. "It'd be nice to have more family members than just you two."
I rolled my eyes and scowled. "Gee, thanks, Sandra," I said coldly, earning a small groan from her. "Anyway, where is your guard? Did you send him back to the house?" I asked, changing the subject.
"He went to check the border and will be back to take me home later," Sandra said with a small shrug and a grimace. "He's also eaten before all of this." She looked at Bethany Ann when she said that.
My mate nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line. Worry flashed across her face, and I could tell that she didn't know if she believed her or not.
"If he needs to eat, then he will eat later,' I said and pulled her closer to me. I pressed a kiss to the side of her head, and Bethany Ann grew tense before she slowly started to relax. "The pack is fine even without us being there."
"I know," she said and nodded, biting back a tired sigh and moving a hand through her hair. "But that doesn't mean I don't worry about them." She nodded toward the living room where her family sat. "And I am still technically the Alpha Chosen even if I am training Benjamin to be the Alpha of that pack."
Sandra frowned and slowly nodded. "Have you talked to Daniel and them?" she asked and looked at me, raising an eyebrow in question.
"Yes," I said and nodded in confirmation. I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "They are also having some problems, especially with Jessica and the babe, but they will be here if we need them."
"And will we help them with whatever it is they need?" she asked, earning a small snort from my mate.
"If we are able to and if Jessica says that we can," Bethany Anne said and shook her head. "I know that Daniel is the Alpha, but he still does listen to his mom about some things."
"And us helping them is a no go?" Sandra asked and raised an eyebrow in question. She looked between the two of us.
"Unless they actually need us," I said and shrugged with a small grimace on my face. "I know that they will probably have her brother and then some of his warriors come over before they have us."
Sandra scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Even though we are closer. Kentucky is a closer state to Kansas than Georgia."
"Only about five hours, but yes, we could get there faster than them." I shrugged and grimaced. "Even though I am sure that Dean will probably speed if something is wrong with his sister."
My little sister bit back a small laugh and slowly nodded. "Yes," she said and cleared her throat, biting back a small smile. "There is nothing more annoying than a big brother who gets protective of their younger sister." She flashed me a small wink, and I rolled my eyes and playfully scowled.
"And there is nothing wrong with that when you need us the most, Sandra," I said and tucked my head closer to my chest. "There is nothing wrong with that."
