Chapter Two

Amy's POV

I wake up feeling disoriented. Opening my eyes, I move around and sigh with relief when I recognize where I am. There is only one person who I knew I was able enough to trust when it came to my abusive dad and that was Emily.

Emily found out in seventh grade when I was thirteen, only one year after my mother's death. She of course knew of my mother's death and had even attended the funeral, but she never knew of the beatings until one day I showed up to school with a bruising black eye.

I had no make up back then as I do now, so my bruises were always in full view.

When she had asked what happened, I had refused to tell her the truth, and instead said I had crashed into a wall. She of course didn't believe. She kept bugging and eventually I told her the truth. She ended up in tears and kept telling me how sorry she was for not noticing sooner.

I knew I could trust Emily with my secret because I have known her since first grade. We instantly clicked and we soon became best friends. Since then, we were both lucky to have the same teacher throughout all of Elementary School and some of the same classes in Middle School.

I'm brought out of my thoughts when I hear the door squeak open. Standing in front of me is none other than the one and only Emily in all her glory.

Her hazel brown hair is tied up into a messy bun and she's wearing a tank top and sweat pants.

I smile weakly at her while she glares at me. "Hi," I mumble weakly with a wave.

She crosses her arms and keeps glaring at me. I sigh. "You know why I can't fight back Em, and before you say anything, you have done enough to help and you can't just ask your parents to adopt them. It just isn't fair to dump all this on their shoulders." I tell her.

Emily has always wanted to help. When I told her my reason for not fighting back, she said that her parents could adopt me and my siblings, but her parents already had 3 children including Emily, they didn't need four more to be dumped on them. Plus, they don't even know about the abuse.

Emily sighs. "I understand that you don't want our help, but at least tell them, they're smart, they can tell that someone has been using our first aid kit more and more times than the average family, tell them Ames. Someday, there may be an injury that I won't be able to heal, and then we'll have no where slash no one else to turn to."

Now it's my turn to sigh. I know she's right, but her parents have their own problems to deal with. "I'll tell them eventually, but until then, we can figure this out together. Now, where are my siblings?" I ask.

"Don't worry, I drove them to school before I brought you here." She told me.

"Thank you so much Em." I say and then go to hug her. Unfortunately, the moment I move an inch, my waist starts hurting. I groan.

"No, no, no!" Em yells at me. "You are to stay in bed you hear me! And don't you even think that I'm gonna allow you to go fight tonight!"

"Em! I can't! Especially not tonight. My manager said that there is a new fighter tonight and that he challenged me for the championship title! I can't miss out on that fight! My career depends in it!" I yell at her.

"I understand that Ames, but can't you reschedule?"

"I could but then I will end up losing around 1 million dollars from the fight IF I win, and if I don't, I'll end up giving up some of my past winnings." I explain to her.

"But why? Why can't you tell them something came up?" She whines.

"Like I said, I could, but as payment for postponing, I would need to pay one million dollars."

"Fine, go, but if you get hurt, don't come to me." She says.

"Oh, please, I could stay away but you love me too much to let me die." I tell her grinning.

She rolls her eyes. "You know me too well." She says sarcastically. I just grin at her.

"Well, I got to go get ready or else I'll be late. Can I use your shower? Please?" I ask her. She rolls her eyes at me. "Of course you can, why do you even ask? This is your home, and your house is my second house." She says. Your probably wondering why she didn't say 'and your home is my home.' Well, she knows that I no longer consider that house home since my mother's death. As they say, home is where the heart is. My heart has been shattered years ago.

"Thank you." I tell her then proceed to get a towel and some of her clothes. It's a good think that we are both the same size in everything.

As I walk into the bathroom and take off my clothes, I feel an ache in my lower abdomen. I look down and gasp at what I see.

There is a new red bruise belt shaped, on top of my other black and purple bruises.

There's a knock on the door. "Ames, are you okay?" Asks Emily.

"Ya, I'm fine, I just unveiled the new bruise to add to my collection." I tell her jokingly.

"Open the door." She commands. I do. I don't bother to even hide behind a towel or the door. There is nothing that she has that I don't. Besides the bruises and scars.

"Oh Ames, come here," She says. I follow her out of the bathroom and towards her bedroom. I had woken up in the guest room.

She takes out a first aid kit and looked through it before pulling out an all too familiar bottle. "Aha!" Exclaims Em. I sigh. This is a product that she always uses for my bruises. I always try to get out of it and not use it, but she refuses to let me.

"Come here." Em says. I sigh. There was no getting out of it no matter how much I begged and whined.

I walk over to where she is and sit down at the corner of her bed. She makes me lie back as she sits beside me, and gently rubs the cold substance onto my abdomen. When she finishes she sends me off to shower. Thank goodness that whatever it is that she put on with me is water proof or else that would have been a waste of time.

After my shower, I dry off my body and carefully put on my undergarments. Then, I put on some of Em's black leggings, and one of her purple tank tops. Purple is my favorite color.

I hear a knock on the door. "Amy, can I come in?" I freeze, that wasn't Emily, she almost always calls me Ames. Shit. That was her mother. I thought she was at work! I'm only wearing a tank top which shows off all of my bruises on my arms!

I hear another knock on the door bringing me out of my mental crises. "Amy, I know your in there, open up." She says calmly, but with an edge in her voice which only mothers can accomplish and which says don't you dare disobey.

I gulp. There was no coming out of it now. I slowly walk over to the door and take off the lock. I turn the handle and see Emily's mom, Tara, standing there. She says not to call her Mrs. O'Neil, since it makes her feel old.

She gasps. "Oh honey, what happened to you?" She asks while tears run down her eyes.

Well, there was no getting out of it now. I have to tell her the truth, she and her family have done so much for me already, without knowing the full truth. She deserves to know.

I take a deep breath and explain everything, from the letter, to beatings, to her daughter finding out, and to this morning.

When I look up, she has tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry honey, I'm sorry that I never noticed before. Please forgive me, I'm so sorry." She cries.

I sigh. "I forgive you, besides, it's not your fault that I'm getting beat or that my father is an utter asshole. You couldn't have known in the first place since I never wanted to tell you. It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that Em has done so much, I didn't want to drag you into this too." I try and explain to her.

She nods her head. "I want to help Amy, if you ever need anything, come here, you will always be welcome here." She says. I nod, tears running down my face. "Thank you so much." I tell her.

She nods her head, gingerly hugs me, then leaves me to continue to get ready. I didn't tell her about my street fighting, but she couldn't know. Black Rose is known too well around this average sized town, and with many gangs willing to do anything to figure out her identity, it would be too dangerous. Emily is in danger herself, she knows too much. She could be kidnapped, and tortured for information. I don't want that to happen.

I sigh. I should really stop thinking like that. I get off the bathtub, where I was sitting while telling her about my past, and go over to the sink and take out Emily's hairdryer. I blow dry my hair and then, though it is very painful, I manage to get my hair into a ponytail.

I carefully put everything back and exit the bathroom. When I get back to Em's room, I see my shoes. I sit down on the edge of her bed, and painstakingly put my shoes on. Let me tell you, it hurts.

When I finish, I walk down the stairs and to the kitchen where I know I'll be able to find Emily.

I see her dancing around the kitchen with her headphones in and dancing to the rhythm of whatever song she's listening to. I decide to have some fun with her and scare her.

I quietly walk up around the counter until I'm right behind her. I put my hands on her shoulder and scream as loud as I can in her ear.

She quickly whirled around screaming, but as she spun around, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.

When she finally composed herself, she looked up and gave me a glare.

I smiled at her. "What the heck Amy?!" She screams at me. Shit. Now I know that I'm in deep trouble since she used my real name.

I nervously laugh at her. "Um, I'm going to go out for a jog until my fight starts." I tell her.

She carefully looks at me before giving me a smirk. I look at her confused, but before I can process what's going to happen, I'm tackled to the ground, with a very heavy body laying across my abdomen, where my bruises are located.

I let out a groan. I've had worse pain, and had to deal with punches getting thrown there once a week, so I'm mostly immune to the pain by now.

"Em, get off of me, your heavy." I complain to her. She immediately obliges, and quickly get's off of me.

"Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry Ames, I forgot about your bruises being there, did I hurt you?! Please forgive me!" She begs for forgiveness.

I roll my eyes at her. "I'm fine, you just took me by surprise. Plus, if I didn't have a bruised abdomen, I would have had you pinned under me, before you could even blink." I tell her truthfully.

This time, she rolls her eyes at me. "Shut your big EGO up!" She whines.

I laugh at her. "Someones a sore loser!"

"Shut up! Now, didn't you say something about going on a jog?" She asks.

"Oh, right, well, I need to prepare for tonight's fight, so I decided to go for a jog and then afterwards go and hit the gym." I tell her while starting my stretches.

She rolls her eyes at me. "You know, if you keep rolling your eyes at me, they are eventually going to fall out." I tell her.

She glares at me. I just laugh back at her. "Anyways, I've decided that from now on, you are going to start training with me." I tell her. Instantly, a screeching noise starts to fill my ears.

"OH, MY GOSH!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOUR FINALLY ALLOWING ME TO TRAIN WITH YOU!!" She screams.

Right, did I mention that Emily has always wanted to train but I never let her? No? Well, when Emily discovered that I was a street fighter, she wanted to be one too, but I didn't want to endanger her more than she already is.

"I said you could train, as in learn some defense skills, and work on getting some muscle, not actually become a street fighter." I try and explain to her.

"What, why?" She whines.

"You know why Em, now, change into some sports gear so we can start our jog around the park."

"Okay." She says, and then runs off to look for some leggings and a tank top.

When she comes back, we go for an hour long jog at the park.

When the hour was up, we went to the gym, where I taught her some defensive moves, and how to use a punching bag.

After 2 hours in the gym, we went to her house to get my costume. My costume isn't really a costume though, it just consists of yoga pants that comes down to my ankles, a black tank top, a baggy sweater, and a mask that covers up my whole face.

"Thanks Em, for always being here." I tell her before I leave.

"No problem, although I really wish you would let me go with you." She says.

"Em." I say in warning tone.

She sighs. "I know, I know. Text me when your match is over so I can pick you up in our usual place." She tells me.

"Don't worry about me Em, now come on, or I'm gonna be late."

"Okay, let me grab the keys."

After she grabs the keys, we leave, and start the 10 minute drive to the underground ring. It goes by the name Black Shadow, or something like that. When I first started fighting there, I went by the name Rose, when I became champ though, my name became Black Rose, after the name of the ring.

After 10 minutes we finally get to the ring. I can see a bigger crowd than usual, bastards. All they want to see is someone get hurt. I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for my father.

I sigh. "Thanks Em, see you later."

"No problem Ames, but do me a favor and go beat their ass!"

I laugh. "See you." I get out of the car. Then I walk around the back of the building. I always enter from back there. I put up my hood and make sure that my mask is secured. No one knows that Black Rose is a girl except my manager, but that's only so she doesn't make any fights during my time of month. The rest of those idiots think Black Rose is a male, which is stupid since Black Rose clearly sounds like a girl name.

Anyways, when I enter the password to open the back door, I open it only to see my manager there impatiently tapping her foot. "About time you get here Rose! I would have thought that you called it quits!" She exclaims. Everyone, meet my manager, Lucy. Or as she prefers to be called, Lucy Goosey. She's the type of girl who knows when to be sarcastic and fun, and also when to be serious.

"Hey Lucy. I'm sorry, but my bruises from last time still haven't fully healed." That's only a small lie, my bruises are partially healed from the last fight, but with my dad adding new bruises almost daily, well, they never fully heal. Of course I can't tell her about my abusive dad, so I always have to make up a little white lie.

"That's fine. Now, hurry up! The guy that wants the championship is named Ryder, and he was the champion in his old ring, which was in New York. According to my research, like you, he also never lost a fight." She explains to me while we walk through the hallways and towards the ring.

When we get there, I finally get a view of my competitor. Let me tell you, that guy has a nice looking body. He has a nice build, almost like he plays a sport, I'm guessing Football, he has light brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes. He's also not wearing a shirt, which gives me full view of his abs.

When I climb into the ring, the guy takes his first look at me, and bursts out laughing. "Is this some kind of joke? I asked to fight your champion, and you bring me a child?" He asks while laughing. I clench my fists. That's what I hate the most, every time some new idiot challenges me for the title, they always burst out laughing, since I'm quite small for my age. It took everything in my power not to punch in his pretty nose right now.

"Shut up!" I sneer at him. He stops laughing. "Oh, and what are you going to do about it? Huh, are you gonna beat me up?" He taunts me.

I glare at him. "We'll see who's laughing at the end of this fight." I tell him just as the announcer climbs into the ring.

"Alright, you all now the rules, now, here we have our personal champion, Black Rose, against former champion in his old ring, Ryder!" He screams into the microphone, and the crowd goes wild, screaming and cheering for their favorite competitor. "Alright, the fight will start in...
