Chapter Twenty Five
AMY'S POV
I watch as Shawn falls deeper for Riley with her flirting.
Riley is twirling her hair while talking to Shawn about who knows what.
Emily comes up to me, a worried look on her face. "Are you okay?" She questions.
It is then that I feel the ache in my backside.
Stupid idiot of a jock.
I wince as she touches my backside softly.
"I'm fine." I wave it off.
She narrows her eyes. "Come with me."
It's not like I have a choice anyways, she's already dragging me down the hall and into the girl's bathroom.
Locking the door behind her and making sure the bathroom is empty, she turns towards me.
"Turn around." She commands.
"Why?" I whine, but still do as she asked.
I shriek as the cold air hits my exposed skin.
"What the fuck?!" I growl at Emily. "What did you do that for?!"
"I needed to see how badly you got bruised."
It's quiet for a moment while Emily examines my back.
"Hmm... I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure your skin shouldn't be this blue."
I roll my eyes. "Do you have that bruising cream thingy?"
She puts my shirt back down as she answers.
"Nope, it's at home. I'll apply it to you later."
"Okay."
We both turn and walk out the door. I freeze at the sight of Alexander and Kylie.
Both of them stare wide eyed at me.
Alexander narrows his eyes while Kylie gives me a knowing look.
"What happened to your back Grocery Girl?" Alex questions.
I stay quiet, not wanting to answer that.
"Answer the question!"
I gulp. "I-I accidentally fell off my bike?" It sounds more like a question.
"Bull shit! Now tell me what happened!"
I look at Kylie and Emily for help. Kylie notices my silent cry for help first.
She nudges Alex in the shoulder. "Didn't you have something to tell Amy?" She hisses.
He sighs. "Do I have to?" He mutters.
She glares at him. He rolls his eyes.
"Grocery-" He gets cut off.
"Amy!" Kylie says.
He rolls his eyes. "Amy," he corrects. "I'm sorry about what happened yesterday. I hope we can put that incident behind us and move on like civilized human beings."
Well.... I'm speechless.
"Wait!" Emily exclaims. "What happened yesterday?"
Oops. I didn't tell her.
"I'll tell you later." I say to her. I then look to Alexander. "Um, thanks I guess. You're forgiven by the way."
Kylie narrows her eyes at me.
"What?" I question innocently.
She rolls her eyes. "Nothing."
"Anyways," Alex draws out the word. "Are you going to tell me what happened to your back?"
"It's none of your business Alex! Now lets go!" Kylie grabs him by his arm and pulls him down the hall.
"But-"
"Now!"
Emily laughs once they are out of sight.
"What a weird pair those two are."
I smile. "A true weird pair."
Emily turns to me, her eyes narrowed. "What happened yesterday?"
I gulp. "Let's get going, I'll tell you I'm the walk home."
She nods. "You better."
--------
"He did what?!" Emily shrieks. I had just finished telling her about what Alexander did.
"He let me throw up on the side of the road."
"And you just forgave him?!" She questions.
I nod.
"Why would you do that?! You should have made him do something to gain your forgiveness!"
I roll my eyes. "Whatever. Anyways, when are we going on that trip to the corn maze?"
"Oh!" Emily perks up. "Um, Bree said that Kylie said we would go Saturday morning!"
"Saturday!" I exclaim.
Emily nods.
"Can't go, sorry." I say.
Emily rolls her eyes. "You're going. I already talked talked to her and she said it would be fine, you needed a break anyways."
I groan. "But what about my sibling? You know I can't leave them alone with him."
"Kylie says she had feeling you would say that, so she said that they are welcome to come. Harley will come as well so Brenda can have some fun."
"Okay."
"So!" Emily exclaims. "What do you want to do?"
"With you, nothing." Emily gasps in fake hurt. I roll my eyes. "I need to go scold Parker for his behavior in school yesterday."
"Oh! Speaking of siblings, I'm gonna go visit Nathan." Emily says.
"Nathan?" I question. "Or do you mean Alec?" I tease her.
"Shut up!" She mutters, but her cheeks are tainted a light shade of pink.
I laugh at her. "Does someone have a crush on Alec?"
"Shut up!" She grumbles. "I'll talk to you later!"
She turns around and starts walking back the way we came.
"The Black's family's mansion is the other way!" I yell after her.
I laugh as she crosses the road in a different direction and disappears down the block.
I take out my phone and ear buds. I blast music the rest of the way to Emily's house.
"Hey Troy!" I greet when the familiar brown haired boy opens the door.
Like his sister, Troy also has hazel brown hair. It makes him even more adorable. Especially those dimples.
"Amy!" Troy says. "Sophie has a boy friend!"
"Tattletale!" Sophie shrieks from inside.
My eyes widen. "What?!"
Sophie glares at Troy. "Nothing! Right Troy?" Sophie elbows him in the ribs.
"Ow!" Troy exclaims. "Nevermind, it's nothing important." He grumbles.
"Troy..." I say in a warning tone. "What did you say?"
He shakes his head no. "Nothing, it's not important."
I look to Sophie. "Sophie...."
She gulps. "N-nothing?"
I continue to look her in the eye. Eventually she looks away in surrender.
"I-I got a b-boyfriend." She squeaks out.
Troy tenses at the word boyfriend. I grin a little. Someone has a crush!
"Sophie," I say to her. She looks up. "You want to repeat that?"
She sighs. "I have a boyfriend."
"How old are you?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
"Twelve," she mutters.
"And what did I tell you about boys?"
"Boy are a stupid waste of space and time... All except Troy."
I smile. "Good. And what did I say about dating?"
"I am not to date until I am sixteen, or preferably not at all."
"How old are you?"
"Okay Amy, I get it." Sophie says. I smile in victory.
"Good." I pause for a second. "Where's Parker?"
"He's with Jordan upstairs." Troy answers.
"Thanks Troy. Come on now, let's go inside." I say.
"Parker!" I call up the stairs as Troy shuts and locks the door behind us.
"Coming!" He yells back. He runs down the stairs, but one look at the expression on my face makes him freeze in his tracks.
"Ready to talk about that fight yesterday?" I question.
He groans.
ALEXANDER's POV
"But-" I get cut off.
"Now!" Kylie drags me by my arm and down the hallway.
I hear someone's faint laugh.
"Kylie!" I snap, finally pulling myself out of her hold
"What?" She snaps back.
"What are you doing?!" I yell at her, ugnoring the stair I'm getting from other students. "You know something don't you?"
Kylie tenses.
"What do you know Kylie? Tell me." I back her back into the wall.
She glares at me. "It's not my place to tell Alexander! All I'm going to tell you, is look beyond."
I stand there dumbfounded, loosening my hold on her.
"What?"
She doesn't answer, instead she takes her chance and leaves.
"Kylie!" I yell after her, but she's already gone and out of sight.
Look beyond? What the hell does that even mean?!
I notice the hall is silent, everyone is staring at me.
"THE BELL RANG! GO HOME!" I yell.
They all quickly scramble and are out of the hall in ten seconds. I smirk.
I walk out of the building and outside.
I take some time to enjoy the breeze before getting into my car.
Turning on the engine, I change the gears and start driving to an isolated place I discovered a couple weeks back.
I pull up in the parking lot of the lake, but instead of following the path to the water, I head into the trees.
Hidden behind a couple of bushes is a dirt pathway, leading up to a cliff.
The walk is hell, but the sight is incredible.
Finally arriving at the cliff edge, I sit down, my feat dangling over the lake.
I look beyond, it took a lot of time getting up here, that by now the sum is setting.
The horizon is covered in a beautiful golden color.
Some streaks of pink seep through as well.
It's beautiful.
I reach for my pocket, wanting to take a picture of this beautiful landscape, only for my hands to come out empty.
I quickly stand and try my other pocket, then my back pockets.
"Fuck," I groan. "Stupid phone is in my car."
I take one last look at the horizon before starting the treck back down the cliff.
------
Finally arriving at my car, I take out my phone and unlock it.
It's twilight by now, but the sun is sort bright.
The screen has the brightness all the way up and I hiss.
Quickly putting the brightness to zero percent, I check my messages.
Shawn
Call me once you see this.
I furrow my eyebrows and call him. He picks up within the second ring.
'Dude, you'll never guess what happened!' He exclaims.
I roll my eyes. "What happened?"
'I took Riley out on a date, and she's now officially my girlfriend!' He sounds so excited.
"Um..." I mutter. "Who's Riley again?"
I can hear him smacking himself on the forhead.
'The girl I've been in love with since sixth grade!'
"Oh!" I exclaim. "Congratulations dude!"
'Thanks, oh! By the way, Kylie wants to talk to you as soon as you get home. By her expression, I think you're going to get a scolding!' He laughs.
I groan. "I'll be there soon." With that, I hang up.
What does Kylie have to say to me now?!
EXTERNAL NARRATOR
The girl waits nervously while waiting for Rob to pick up the phone.
"Hello?" The man answers.
"I'm almost there, he's my boyfriend now. What's next?" Riley questions.
"How well does the group trust you?" Rob questions.
"Um..." Riley hesitates. "They trust me fairly good, all except Amy. I don't think she told anyone about the misunderstanding from the last mission."
"Hmm..." Rob murmurs. "Alright, get closer to that O'Neil girl. If anyone knows anything, it has to be her. Also, try to get into the house again, try scoping out more clues."
"Okay." Riley murmurs. "Is that all?"
"That's all for now agent, just make sure not to blow your cover."
"Understood." Riley replies. "One last thing, how is Cammy?"
Riley can hear the smile in Rob's voice.
"She's okay now, much more settled than she was yesterday."
"So when will you be able to come up here?" Riley questions.
"Now yet Agent. I'm thinking late August, in time for her birthday."
"Rob! She'll be long gone by then, Cammy might never end up meeting her!" Riley exclaims.
"What are you talking about agent?"
"Let's say our suspicions are correct Rob," Riley starts. "Don't you think she would want to be out of there as soon as possible? This August she's turning eighteen, legally an adult. She'll be long gone by the time her birthday rolls around."
Rob thinks about this for a moment.
"Get her to grow closer to someone. Not the O'Neil girl, someone else, maybe one of the Black siblings, or Caleb?" Rob says.
Riley thinks about this for a moment. "You want me to play matchmaker?"
"Cupid, and yes. Get her to fall in love with someone, that's bound to give us a few extra days."
Riley nods. "But whom? Who should I play matchmaker with? Obviously Amy, but who do I match her up with?"
"Try Caleb first, she's known him the longest and you'll be able to interact with him more considering you're dating his cousin."
Riley nods. "Alright. I'll get Amy togather with Caleb.
With that, she ends the call.
