Back in the times of the zhuo dynasty, a day before the new year day. In the manor of minister Han, within the fu ping courtyard lies a girl in rags doing some laundry. Her skin as white as snow and her hair as dark as ebony along with bright eyes and a pair of pink lips.

"Jiangxue! Jiangxue!!" Someone calls out, the beauty in rags turns around and replies "yes elder sister".

From the entrance of the courtyard lady Mingxiang emerges and demands harshly "you useless rag won't you greet me" "greetings elder sister"says Jiangxue as she curtsies.

She doesn't acknowledge her greetings and rather asks rudely "are you done with the embroidery on my handkerchief and washing my clothes".

"I'm done with the embroidery b-but I'm n-not done with y-y-your clothes"replied Jiangxue in a shaky voice.

"What!! How dare you delay in your duties you disgusting thing, juntao make sure she gets flogged fourty times" said mingxiang "yes my lady" replied Juntao her lady maid with a devilish grin plastered on her face.

"Elder sister please don't punish younger sister, please I'm almost done please I'll never delay again" cried Jiangxue as she knelt down crying and begging, instead Mingxiang kicked her away with her foot and retorted"you filthy thing you've gotten dirt on my shoes, juntao make sure she's flogged thirty strokes instead".

"Yes my lady" Juntao replied happily and with that Jiangxue was dragged and flogged and forced to resume her washing in order to avoid being punished more by Mingxiang.

This is how I imagined Mingxiang to look like beautiful yet arrogant

Later that evening, jiangxue was in her room while her foster mother, consort yi applied some medicinal balm to her wounds with the help of Jiangxue's lady maid Bai Jun.

"Eldest miss is really cruel and ruthless, look at how injured my dear lady, I don't know why my lady is always being maltreated like this after all my lady is the true di daughter of this family" exclaimed Bai Jun angrily.

"Keep quiet Bai Jun you want someone to hear you and punish your lady" said consort yi.

"I'm sorry consort yi, I was just feeling bad that my lady has to go through all this hardships in her own father's manor" said Bai Jun apologetically.

"it's ok Bai Jun, I'm fine. Why don't you go and get me some tea" said Jiangxue, "yes of course my lady"said Bai Jun as she worked out of the room to the kitchen.

"Mother why does father hate me" asked Jiangxue.

"(sighs) jiangxue many times you've asked me this question but I always turn you away although I think you're old enough to know now for you're no longer a child. As you know you're mother died when you immediately after giving you your name, then your father adored you a lot but then consort chen (mingxiang's mother) summoned a taorist who said you were a bad omen unto our family and that's why your mother died Immediately after giving birth to you so for that your father despised you and none of your father's consorts wanted to take care of you. Back then I was just a maid, but wen I heard that u a poor baby of just a few months would be taken to the temple to grow I felt sorry for you and decided to adopt you. But for me to do that I had to marry your father and become his consort so that the has family's name would not be soiled. I agreed to take care of you as my own so I was made the lowest ranking consort in the whole Han manor, ever since then I've seen you as my daughter" consort yi narrated.

By now Jiangxue's eyes were full with tears that threatened to come out then she asked "but mother don't you also consider me as a bad omen".

"Why on Earth would I think of you as that my dear, you are my daughter after all" said consort Yi.

"But mother because of me you are always being maltreated and have to suffer and you lost your first child after you adopted me" said Jiangxue tearfully.

"My dear child losing my first child has nothing to do with you it was just destiny and besides I still had Tang li and Ningjing, and as for being punished it's not your fault it's all consort Chen's fault and has nothing to do with you so my dear calm your mind okay" said consort Yi "look it's time for your practice go and get your whistle I'll get the paper and some ink" said consort Yi.

"Okay mother" replied Jiangxue.

"Oh and mother".

"Yes dear?"

With that Jiangxue ran over and hugged the woman who has taken her in as her own and said "I love you mother".

"I love you too dear" replied consort Yi and with that Jiangxue skipped out of the room to get her whistle like not even a single bad thing had happened to her that day.
