four
Besides the encounter with Fergal, my first night was quite successful. I managed to pick up the win in my fatal four way match, advancing me one step closer to the title. When I listened back to the match, it seemed like both the commentators and fans were impressed by me hitting Alexis with the Fin Del Sol. After the match, I made a small statement on WWE.com, saying that I was ready to take over the division and show the world what women could do.
Getting back to the hotel room, I was told that I would be rooming with Alyx, which I was okay with. We knew each other from our time in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla together, so we hoped to become better friends because of this. Plus, it could've been worse; they could've assumed and roomed me with Fergal.
At one of the next shows, Alyx invited me to go out with her, Claudio, Pamela, Alexis, and Colby after the taping. Since I had nothing else to do, I accepted.
Once the show was over, we made our way over to one of the local bars. It wasn't too busy since it was a Monday night so we easily found a seat towards the back. They all ordered some alcohol, while I just got a water. They found it quite easy to make conversation, while I just kept to myself for the most part.
"So, Luna," Colby finally spoke towards me with a slight smirk on his face, "We heard you had a little run in with Fergal on your first day."
The others instantly turned towards me with looks of confusion on their face.
"You had a run in with Ferg?" Pamela squeaked. She was known to be really good friends with the Irishman from their time down in NXT. To hear his name being brought up made her slightly concerned.
I glared at the Iowa native, who's smirk shrunk at that point. If this was some sort of initiation to him, to single me out and act like this, it just showed the type of person he was. My jaw clenched and I held tighter to my drink.
"You wouldn't understand." I mumbled and took a gulp of my drink.
"Then why not enlighten us?" His smirk returned, garnering a concerned look from the others.
"Colby, drop it." The Swiss superstar glared at his friend.
"What? I'm just asking her a simple question."
"You honestly think that I'm going to tell you what he did? That's between him and I, and I'm not going to sit around here and be attacked for your entertainment." My blood boiled and my heart rate rose out of frustration. I rose from my seat and grabbed my jacket from the back of my chair, "I'm out of here."
"Luna, come on. We're sorry." Alyx insisted, but I was already out the door.
Once back to the hotel, I tried to make my way back to my room as quickly as possible. Alone time was what I wanted and needed right now. I did see a couple co-workers along the way, but I didn't acknowledge them.
Stepping into the elevator, I pressed the button to my floor and waited for the door to shut. Before it did, a hand stuck through to retract the door. Looking back at the person, I was met with smiles from Drew and Chad.
"Well, look at this. Little Ms. Luna." Chad smirked and gave me the 'Too Sweet', causing me to smile meekly.
"Hey boys." I gave the 'Too Sweet' to Drew as well, who seemed happy to see me. Honestly, I hadn't done that since leaving Japan; it just didn't seem right.
"You look a little down. You okay?" Chad asked, a twinge of concern in his voice.
"I'm fine. I've just been having a rough time adjusting to the new lifestyle, you know?" I didn't dare tell them about what happened at the bar.
"Yeah, we gotcha. Listen, we're gonna go see Ferg in his room. You wanna come?"
"No!" I blurted out, causing the two bigger men to jump. My heart rate picked up as I cleared my throat and a blush of embarrassment settled on my face, "I mean, I should probably get back to my room. I'm heading out in the morning with some of the mid carders to the next city, and I need to pack up my stuff."
They were obviously thrown off by my sporadic response, but they didn't seem to question it further. When I reached my floor, a gave them a small 'goodnight' and headed straight to my room.
"Come on, Luna. You have to be quicker than that." The trainer yelled at me as I stood in the ring with Pamela, working on my moves for the next show. With SummerSlam in two weeks, the matches for the number one contendership were dwindling down. It was now down to a triple threat between myself, Pam, and Ashley "Charlotte" Fleihr.
Going into this matchup, I was definitely the underdog. Ashley was the daughter of Hall of Famers, Ric Flair, and both competitors had each seen a championship reign as far back as their time down in NXT. I, on the other hand, had no such acclaim in the company and was still considered the new girl. Many were impressed by how far I've come since my debut a couple weeks prior, but they believed my run at the title stopped here. I intended on proving them wrong.
Right now, Pam and I were working on our high flying moves in one corner of the ring. She practiced her Springboard Corkscrew Arm Drags and the Turnbuckle Thrust and Back Elbow combo, while I hit her with a Corner Crossbody and followed with a Corkscrew Shooting Star Press. Just with the little time working with her, I could tell she was one of the best women on the roster. I hoped that after this I could work with her more.
As much as I needed my head to be in this, it kept going back to Fergal; that had been happening a lot lately. Perhaps it was because he was starting to make his name known on the main roster by going after the WWE Championship. Perhaps it was because fans on Instagram and Twitter said we acted very similar entrance wise. Perhaps it was because he often came around whenever I was with Pamela or if I was with Drew and Chad. Whatever it was, it just made my uncomfortable.
I could see it in his eyes, how much he wanted to make things right. If it wasn't for the title, that may have been in main focus in life. But what he did three year ago in Japan couldn't be fixed with a simple 'sorry'; he needed to know that his actions were wrong and earn my trust back.
"Alright, take a break you guys." The trainer called as we'd ran through the moves for the past hour. Pam, Ashley, and I nodded before relaxing against the ring ropes. I sipped down some water and tried to catch my breath.
"So," I looked towards Ashley, who was readjusting her hair in the ponytail, "How's the business been treating you, Luna?"
"It's great. I'm still trying to get used to the stressful lifestyle, but it's definitely worth it. And it's nice to see a bunch of my indie friends again. Makes the experience greater knowing that we made it." I smiled, causing them to smile.
"Speaking of Indie friends, you and Fergal seem to have quite the history." Pamela added, causing my smile to fade slightly.
At this point, I didn't see the point in trying to fight it. With the career we had in Japan together, people were bound to talk about it. I figured if I just grinned and bared it, that would please them.
"Yeah. He was one of the first friends I made in Japan. I guess he took so much of an interest in me that he asked me to manage him and be a part of Bullet Club. We just clicked."
"Have you rekindled that relationship since you've been reunited?"
I found myself turning my head to the side to hide my eyes as the feeling of tears forming came over me. Sure, I was accepting of talking about the relationship we had before everything went bad, but that doesn't mean it didn't hurt.
"Not...really, no. I mean, he's been busy chasing the title and I have been too. I just didn't want to get in his way." I tried to avoid the topic of our fallout in Japan as much as possible. It just didn't seem right to talk about with others.
"That's understandable." Ashley commented.
"Yeah, but remember, it is important to be supportive of your friends. Just food for thought, I guess." She smiled sweetly.
I smiled back as the trainer urged us back to work. The three of us rose from our seats and started to work on our match from start to finish.
At the next show, Pamela, Ashley, and I found ourselves in front of a sold out crowd in New Jersey. As it was the last match in this number one contendership "tournament", if it can even be called that, the fans were antsy to see a match with three of the best women on the roster going at it.
At the beginning of the match, Ashley knocked me out of the ring, wanting to focus her attention on the hugger. The two has somewhat of a history together, so it only made sense. The fans booed when she did that, as they wanted some new blood in the mix.
Getting back onto the ring apron, I was met with a forearm smash by Pam, causing some to cheer and others to hiss in pain. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as I fell back, hitting my head on the ring apron and falling to the concrete floor. The ref rushed to my head to check on my head and neck for any injuries. I waved him off as the dizziness was settling in; he insisted on having the doctors look.
Inside the ring, Ashley and Pamela exchanged blows, garnering loud praise from the fans as I started to shake off the dizziness. Ashley found the upper hand and was able to get Pamela down to the floor. Hitting her with Natural Selection, a wicked smile crossed her face. The fans booed as she kicked her opponent. However their expression changed to cheers as I sneaked back into the ring and hit her with a powerful flying clothesline. As she got back to her feet, I spun and kicked her hard in the gut. I then bounced off the ropes and hit her with a Corkscrew Neckbreaker. Trying for a pin, she kicked out at two.
Helping her to her feet, I whipped her towards the corner and hit her with a Corner Crossbody. The fans cheered as they saw an opportunity for a top rope maneuver. Slowly, I made my way over to the turnbuckles and climbed them. Getting to my feet and pointing at her with my fingers like guns, I leaped and hit her with a Corkscrew Shooting Star Press. I went for another pin, but Pamela yanked me off of her.
When I turned towards her, she picked up my form and hit with the flapjack. I rubbed my head as she kicked back up to her feet. She then grabbed my form and whipped me towards the corner. As my back hit the turnbuckles, Pam charged at me with a Turnbuckle Thrust and Back Elbow combo. As she tried for a pin, I barely kicked out at two.
Ashley then started to get back involved by hitting Pam with a big boot to the head. They started to go back at is as I recuperated in the corner. She managed to hit Ashley out of the ring, causing the fans to cheer loud. I got to my feet and began to size her up; the fans roared as they watched the wheels turning in my head. When she turned back to face me, I looped an arm under her arm and neck and flipped back, hitting her with the Fin Del Sol. The fans roared as I excitedly went for the pin.
As the ref counted two, Ashley returned to the ring and grabbed my ankle, dragging me off of Pam. She flipped me over on my back, causing my body to squirm to get back on my stomach. Wrapping up my leg, she put me in the Figure Eight Leg Lock. The fans yelled as I screamed out in pain. I desperately reached for the ropes, but I was stuck in the middle of the ring. After trying to hold out, I had no choice but to tap out.
The bell rang and Ashley pushed me off of her. My hand reached up to my neck and held it as Ashley stood over me, her arm raised high. The referee came to my side to check my head and neck from the bump earlier. It was slightly sore, so he insisted on getting it check out. I nodded in understanding before heading to the back.
Doctors warned that I strained a couple muscles in my neck from hitting the ring apron. The suggested ice and decorated the back of my neck with medical tape. I was instructed to take it easy the next couple of days. I thanked them before heading out.
Pulling my sweatshirt around me, I shut the trainers door behind me and started towards the locker rooms. The crowds cheers could still be heard as the next match started.
Rubbing the back of my neck, I looked up to notice Fergal walking by me, his attention focused on his jacket. My breath caught in my throat as I continued to walk by him. I prayed and hoped that he wouldn't notice me.
Sadly, he did. As he looked up from his attire, his eyes widened and he hesitated in his steps. A blush came over my entire body, making me feel extremely uncomfortable. He took a step towards me and reached an arm out to stop me, but I shook my head and scurried past him. Small tears formed in my eyes as I kept my head low. I heard him stop as I continued to go.
"Luna." He called out, causing me to stop. I didn't hear any footsteps coming towards me though. Looking over my shoulder at him, I noticed his featured softened and a small grin come over him. For a moment, I almost put my guard down entirely and thought about approaching him. The idea soon subsided and I kept looking over at him. "Good job out there." He expressed.
I looked down at the floor before looking back up at him. I knew his words we sincere; he had always been supportive of me when it came to my matches. Oddly, I found the corner of my mouth turning up in a grin, causing him to smile bigger. Any sort of change in behavior like that, he seemed to take as tiny victories.
"Thank you." Then I turned and continued towards the locker rooms.
I hope you enjoyed. How did I do? Let me know in the comment. Also, let me know if these time skips are too much. Thanks for reading. And until next time, heart you. <3
