Chapter 26

Krystal was momentarily taken aback, her mind racing to remember the details of her recent shopping trip. She had purchased a shirt for Taehyung, and it was currently in her father's car.

"Yes," she admitted, "I did."

Taehyung's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "Why haven't you given it to me yet? Are you planning to surprise me?"

Krystal lapsed into silence for a brief moment, her thoughts clearly preoccupied. After contemplating, she responded to Taehyung's comment about the shirt with a hint of uncertainty, "Well, my mom did mention it to you, so I didn't think it would be much of a surprise."

Taehyung, undeterred by her logic, waved his hand dismissively and wore an appreciative smile. "No," he insisted, "it's still a lovely surprise. The fact that you thought of getting me clothes unexpectedly makes me really happy. Don't forget to give it to me tomorrow so I can try it on. I trust your fashion sense, but I'm just a tad worried about the size."

As the conversation continued, Taehyung couldn't help but notice that Krystal remained distant and contemplative throughout the evening. Her lack of engagement in their usual banter and her subdued demeanor were starkly evident.

The evening's enigma deepened as it became apparent that Krystal hadn't eaten much during dinner, despite having gone without food for the entire day. Her uncharacteristic behavior raised concerns among their friends, who wondered what might be troubling her.

Krystal brought the car to an abrupt halt, her fingers quickly working to release her seatbelt. "I need to stop and buy some medicine," she announced with a sense of urgency in her voice.

The reason for her sudden decision became clear as she reflected on the events of the day. Krystal had slept through most of it, only waking up to attend the gathering with her friends. In her rush to join the get-together, she had forgotten a crucial detail: her contraceptive pills.

It had already been a full twenty-four hours since she should have taken her medication. According to her understanding, it was essential to take the contraceptive pills within twenty-four hours.

The weight of her oversight hung heavily on her mind as she stepped out of the car and hurried into the pharmacy. The urgency of the situation was not lost on her, and she hoped that she could still rectify her mistake in time.

If Krystal hadn't spotted the pharmacy on the roadside, she might have completely forgotten about her pressing need. The realization of this fact spurred her into action.

Inside the pharmacy, Krystal swiftly purchased the oral contraceptives she needed and paid for them. As she was preparing to leave, her attention was drawn to Taehyung, who had approached the counter. In an attempt to conceal her purchase, she casually selected another random medication and placed the oral contraceptive discreetly in her bag.

Taehyung, pushing the door open to enter, couldn't help but notice the medicine Krystal was handing over to the cashier. Concerned, he inquired, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Krystal nodded, maintaining the pretense. "Yes, I am," she replied, her voice soft. "That's why I haven't had much of an appetite."

Taehyung, now understanding why she hadn't eaten, picked up the medicine and asked, "Is this one suitable for an upset stomach?"

The sales assistant, aware of the medication Krystal had initially chosen, was slightly taken aback but quickly fetched a different box. "This one would be better," she suggested.

"Then we'll take this one," Taehyung decided, reaching for his wallet and heading to the convenience store section of the pharmacy. He gently released Krystal's hand and said, "Wait for me here."

After a short while, Taehyung returned with a cup of warm water. He handed it to Krystal and said, "Come on, take this medicine. It will help you feel better."

Krystal's eyes glistened with tears as she took the glass. She bit her lip, touched by Taehyung's thoughtfulness, and accepted the three tablets he placed in her palm. "Thank you," she whispered gratefully.

With a reassuring smile, Taehyung watched as she swallowed the medicine. His caring gesture had provided her with a sense of comfort in a moment of vulnerability.

Taehyung's car came to a stop in front of Krystal's house, the late hour adding an extra layer of darkness to the quiet suburban street. He was resolute in his decision not to let her accompany him further, fully aware of the potential risks she might face if she tried to send him off alone.

Due to his intoxicated state, Taehyung had wisely decided against driving himself, planning instead to hail a taxi from Krystal's house to get back home safely. As they reached her front gate, he watched attentively as she fumbled for her keys.

In a soft, reassuring tone, Taehyung told her, "I'll come see you again tomorrow."
