SCENE H

INT. HALLWAY – LATER

Mae and Torin walk the halls. A student cuts them off while texting. Mae taps her tablet. Sirens sound and lights flash on the screen causing the student to halt.

TORIN

Haven't you heard how dangerous it is to text and walk? Keep your eyes up front.

She rips off a detention slip and hands it to the student.

TEXTING STUDENT

Detention?

Torin blows her whistle.

TORIN

Talking back to a police officer? That just cost you double time.

She tears off another sheet and hands it to the student.

TORIN (CONT'D)

Three strikes and you'll be here until the reunion.

The student scurries away.

MAE

We make a pretty good team.

TORIN

Oddly enough, you're right. Usually, I don't work well with anyone.

She observes the halls.

TORIN (CONT'D)

Soon these halls will be free of criminals. Even if that means the entire student body ends up in detention.

Mae notices all the students wearing Caleb's designs.

MAE

Torin, we have a problem.

Torin spots Caleb at his pop-up shot.

TORIN

Roger that.

INT. HALLWAY – MOMENTS LATER

Caleb looks through the window of the door to detention while Mae and Torin stand guard outside of it.

CALEB

Torin, you can't do this. This isn't fair. I'm telling mom!

Torin holds her empty detention slip pad.

TORIN

I'm due for a refill. Whatever you do, do not go in there. They cannot be trusted. Look at that face. Despicable.

Caleb mean mugs her. Torin exits.

CALEB

Mae, you have to get us out of here.

MAE

So you can escape your punishment? Not on my watch. Torin told me about your kind.

CALEB

Torin is the one you should be watching out for. Come in and see for yourself.

Mae hesitates then goes inside.

INT. DETENTION – CONTINUOUS

Inside, all of the students Mae and Torin detained sit at desks doing work.

ZEKE

All right, guys. Let's get her!

Mae shrieks and hides behind Caleb.

ZEKE (CONT'D)

Just kidding...to keep me from falling apart.

CALEB

There's something you should know about Torin. Look at the board.

Mae looks at the board.

MAE

(reading) "Be kind to teachers and wash your hands before every meal."

CALEB

That's just a cover-up.

He slides over the panel to reveal another board. Instructions to Doing Torin's Homework: Do write in cursive. Do dot I's with stars. Do not misspell Torin Lazlow.

MAE

I've been deceived by my own partner. I'm sorry, you guys. I let this job get to my head. Even worse, I let Torin get to my head. This is all my fault.

ZEKE

Yeah? Tell that to my ex-girlfriend. We've been going out since kindergarten. We even finger painted our honeymoon together. Candy Land!

He tries to stifle his tears.

CALEB

I scheduled Zeke a guidance appointment after school. He's been an emotional wreck.

Zeke sobs while shaking his snow globe.

ZEKE

There's no guy like Zeke. There's no guy like Zeke...

MAE

Torin must be stopped. It's time to clean these halls once and for all.
