INT. CLARKE LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

Ariella fixes her party dress in front of the mirror. She sadly looks at her reflection, no longer in the partying mood. There's a knock on the door. She opens it and Mae enters. Ariella sits on the couch, party pooped.

MAE

I have the best news ever. You weren't falling in love with Caleb. He was wearing Danny's cologne, which made you think you were falling for him.

Ariella doesn't respond.

MAE (CONT'D)

This is the part where you leap for joy and reclaim your sanity.

ARIELLA

That doesn't explain why he broke up with me.

Mae sits next to her.

MAE

Technically, you can't break up with someone you were never really going out with.

Ariella isn't listening.

ARIELLA

Did I do something wrong?

MAE

It's over. (snapping fingers) Let it go.

Another knock on the door. Ariella gets up and answers it. It's Danny dressed up for the party.

DANNY

Ready to go?

Ariella looks at his tie. She gets emotional and exits. Mae shakes her head at Danny.

MAE

This is all your fault.
