SCENE I

EXT. SWIRLY GO ROUND – LATER

Ariella and Mae sit at a table doing homework. Ariella watches Caleb flirt with Sonny at the counter.

MAE

Did you get number two?

ARIELLA

He just tossed us aside like rag dolls.

Mae pauses. She goes back to work.

MAE

What about number three?

ARIELLA

We didn't even get a proper introduction. She probably doesn't even know our names.

MAE

And this is why we're back to doing homework after school. What's wrong with Caleb having a girlfriend?

ARIELLA

Don't you see? She's stealing him away from us. First, he stops hanging out with us. Next thing you know he's deleting us from his contacts altogether and all I'll have left is this scrapbook of our friendship.

She pulls out the scrapbook and flips to the Caleb page. There's a sketch of one of Caleb's designs.

ARIELLA (CONT'D)

I miss him already.

Sonny kisses Caleb on the cheek then exits. Caleb walks over to their table.

CALEB

Hey, guys.

ARIELLA

Guys? We have names you know.

Caleb is confused. He looks at his sketch in her scrapbook.

CALEB

Oh yeah, I remember that. I slipped it in there hoping you'd put it in your next line. Good times.

ARIELLA

Keep it. The last shred of the Caleb you left behind.

She hands it to him. He looks at it for a moment.

CALEB

No thanks.

He crumbles it, tosses it in the trashcan and starts wiping down a table. Ariella gets up and takes the sketch out of the trash.

ARIELLA

This is a Caleb Lazlow original. You can't just throw it away.

CALEB

That was the old Caleb. That's not me anymore.

ARIELLA

At least the old Caleb wouldn't ditch his friends for a girl who couldn't even pick him out of a crowd a week ago. Do you know how impossible that is? Those clothes are changing you.

CALEB

This is who I am now. If you can't accept that, then maybe we shouldn't be friends.

He walks away.
