Ariella and Mae work on their homework. Ariella closes her book.

ARIELLA

And done.

MAE

We should come to class early more often. Homework's so much better when it's not at home.

ARIELLA

Keep it down. We don't want the teachers to think we have too much free time on our hands.

Caleb enters wearing a shirt with fans built into the large shoulder pads.

MAE

They may have a point.

Caleb squeezes past the other students, apologizing along the way until he reaches Ariella and Mae.

CALEB

I've found the solution for the AC problem. Fanny pads.

ARIELLA

You blow me away every time.

The bell rings. Caleb takes his seat, almost whacking Mae in the had.

Mr. Vincent stands behind his desk and lights an antique lamp.

MR. VINCENT

This lamp was said to sit on the desk of Thomas Edison. It is one of the earliest sources of artificial light, but not the first. Can anyone tell me what was?

Caleb raises his hand, accidentally activating his fans.

Papers from Mr. Vincent's desk blow in his face. He stumbles and knocks over the lamp, breaking it and setting the desk on fire. He grabs the fire extinguisher and puts the fire out, exhausted.

Caleb puts his hand down.

CALEB

Never mind.
