Lexis Ellis sat on a desk, his long legs crossed in front of him and his smile taunting. That's the worst thing you can see on Lexis' face: his relaxed smile. It meant everything is but okay. That's just who he is. He naturally puts a void to all things humane.
Across from him, Joshua Lenz whimpered. His knees were shaking in an uneven rhythm. And because of it, his body didn't want to stay upright at all anymore.
"You look so vulnerable." Lexis mocked him, his deep voice low and controlled. "You're shaking like a child."
Joshua's nose flared as he glared at Lexis. He hated him as much as he was terrified of him. He wished he could beat the living daylights out of him, to death even, but Joshua also knew Lexis was the one thing he couldn't do so much as breathe on.
"Now you look like you want to hit me." Lexis said, the smile not leaving his face. He sighed in sarcasm. "That hurts my feelings."
Joshua whimpered as he looked down at Lexis' hand that held the knives. "Leave me alone. Please, just leave me alone!" He insisted. He wished he could walk away, but the chances of him living while standing against the wall over here were much higher than him taking a single step.
Lexis looked at the dartboard above Joshua's head. Then looked back at Joshua.
"I could stop. I'll stop today if you'd like. Just make sure I don't see you again in the Academy tomorrow."
Joshua was fed up. He practically had the whole Academy on his tail everyday, reminding him of how unprivileged he was, however, that was a cruel story and being under Lexis' mercy was another.
"Don't you have any common sense? Are you not in any way feeling contrite about what you have done?"
Tomorrow being the first day of the new school year, Joshua had hope that he could make it. Last year he did, so he can do it this year as well, right? All he had to do was hold on. Bear the pain Lexis will put him through and do well in his classes. Surely a miracle will happen and everything will become okay. Surely.
He closed his eyes shut. "I can't."
Lexis lost his smile. His eyes became similar to the tip of a sword.
Joshua could only whimper, and watch those tiny knives with more fear from them than the devil himself.
"You want to survive here?" Lexis' voice was suddenly cold. Deadly. "You said that you want to survive here no matter what, didn't you?"
Joshua's knees barely held him as he stared at Lexis with a disgusted expression. If one of those knives hit him in the head...in the eyes....in the neck.
"Are you going to change your mind?"
Joshua stayed quiet. His expression still showcasing his distaste. His eyes still wet. His lips still trembling.
Lexis grabbed a knife with his right hand and drew his arm back, ready to throw at Joshua again.
Joshua's silence was weighed down by his fear.
"Are you going to change your mind?!"
Joshua shut his eyes tight and let out a whimper. "Please stop!" He demanded in a terrified whisper.
"Then leave. Get out of this school."
The moment Joshua opened his eyes again, Lexis threw the third knife. It landed an inch above Joshua's head.
Joshua gasped, his body upheaving while he took in a sharp breath filled with fear. A part of him, the one fear had still not reached yet, was relieved the knife hadn't touched him, everything else? Melted with horror.
"Whether its a scholarship or a loaded connection that brought you in here, I couldn't care less. Find another school."
The disgust Joshua felt from those words was apparent on his face. Truth is, he didn't want to go through this anymore. He wanted everything but this, but knew quite well he couldn't do anything about it either. However, his dad, the things he goes through for people like Lexis' father and other important arrogant leaders, he needed to hold on for at least him. He'd never shame his dad. He'll do anything he can until he graduates and becomes a recognized leader himself, it was the only way his dad wouldn't have to work for those ignorant remorseless moneybags.
If anything, Joshua would rather kill himself than go back empty handed.
The door opened and Summer walked in. Summer, one of Dawn's Angels, was a bomb set on a self timer. Her soft features were anything but a reflection of her personality. Self-centered, ignorant and headstrong, she was the female version of Lexis. And naturally, two magnets of the same sides don't get along.
"Hey!" She exclaimed, walking over to Lexis in stomps, or at least, that's what it seemed like in her three inch heels. "Aren't you going to find a solution for this?" She smacked the desk table in front of Lexis. Typically, no one could get away with such behavior when it comes to Lexis, however, Summer had earned her rights.
Lexis sighed and with great effort, his eyes turned up to look at Summer. "Well, look who's here."
"When will you fix this damn problem!" She exclaimed, her body shaking with anger.
He stood to his feet, placing the knives on the table. Joshua's eyes watched and his body became less tense, more relieved. He let out a mute sigh.
Lexis smiled, and arrogantly moved a strand of hair that had fell on Summer's right eye. He slowly let in a line of breath between his teeth as his eyes squinted at her. "I believe I mentioned before to not do things like this. To me, anger only brings out your inner beauty. It's captivating."
"I'm not joking. You better tell your father to step back and decide his piggy bank cashing on someone else." She said, her hazel eyes wide with anger.
Lexis innocently shrugged. "You do me the pleasure of telling him."
Lexis' parents and Summer's parents have united to try to get the two together for business matters. Though nothing had been official yet, they were working on an arranged engagement between the two. Since Lexis' father is a power and money crazed man, for sure he was going to do all he can to get this done.
"He's your father. You should man up and tell him."
Lexis' smile disappeared, he looked up at the ceiling in thought then back at Summer. Usually, he was very sarcastic with her for her reactions alone. And usually it was only with her. Their eight year old relationship bought her a ticket to get away with many things around Lexis. "But what am I going to do? I can't."
She forced out a humorless laugh. "Is there anything you can't do?"
He nodded. "Refusing to marry you. I can't do that."
"You humor me."
"Why won't you marry me? You'll like how I make eggs for breakfast."
"I don't eat eggs."
"Is that right? Huh, then we have to figure out what we like and don't first, don't we?" He smiled.
She snorted unwillingly. "I don't like you."
He nodded in agreement. "Neither do I. Now leave." He turned to sit back down.
Her nose flared. She grabbed his shoulder and turned him to face her again, staring at him with disbelief. "Don't tell me what to do! And get it fixed. I don't care how you do it, but you better get it done soon. Unlike you, I actually have a love life I'd like to protect from these pointless rumors."
"Really?" He asked, pushing her hand off his shoulder. His sarcasm continued, "You have a love life?"
Her anger inched up. "Unlike you."
"I told you not to get angry. Your cheeks flush and I get butterflies in my stomach." His voice fell a few notches as he knelt in closer to her and quietly said. "It's a weird feeling. I don't like it."
Summer gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, breathing until her body calmed down. Nevertheless, the hint of anger she had enwrapping her fists was still there. Opening her eyes, she turned and said. "The last thing I need in my life is you. I don't want to go to the dinner next week. So make sure I don't. I'm leaving it up to you. That being said, I don't know how I can trust someone so..." She gritted her teeth, her nose crumbled with disgust. "Vile."
A slight smile tugged at his lips. "Its only a reflection, what we deeply see in others. Remember that."
Feeling defeated by his nonchalance, she gave up.
"I'll be waiting." She turned around to leave, but turned back and looked over at Joshua, with revolt, she said. "You. Aren't you getting out of this school?" She turned around and left out the door, while muttering "scum" under her breath.
A notification reminded Lexis of a text. He took his phone out and looked at the screen.
You have dinner with your future fiancé two Sundays from now. A suit will be delivered to you hours before. I'm quite sure, dear son, you'll be present.
He sighed at his father's text and replied.
I'm not interested.Enjoy your disappointment.
Feeling angry and spoilt, he slipped his phone in his pocket and left out of the door, making his way to the only room that he can be alone in right now.
The piano room, Cara's Heaven.
To Lexis, women became loving creatures that can easily, in a single detrimental moment, become the most selfish and detestable living beings any man could ever come across.
Women very much like–
