MOVIE >scene19> - A Dorm. A Delinquent. A Girl.
"Rihanna!" Summer's joyful voice was as fake as Jenna William's purse, but she knew she had to play this well. Rihanna was a good asset to connect with. That's what mattered. No matter how much she hated, felt jealous, or was disgusted from the strange girl, she still needed to pretend and lower herself until Rihanna was permanently by her side.
Rihanna looked up from her table where she was eating her lunch and quickly smiled. "Hey Summer."
"Mind if I sit?" Summer noted how she had never requested that from anyone else before, and she was momentarily irritated with herself for it.
"Of course not. Go ahead."
Summer took a seat and placed her brown leather bag on top of the table.
"No lunch?" Rihanna commented.
"Universal model. I have to watch what I eat." She eyed the amount of food in front of Rihanna, which to Summer could feed up to three people. She felt a bang of jealousy when she eyed Rihanna's weight, which was maintained better than her own.
"I have very high metabolism." Rihanna quickly defended. "I can barely sit anywhere without feeling the need to move."
"Ah..." Summer nodded. Why couldn't she be born with high metabolism? It would have fit perfectly with her job. "So. I was wondering if you'd like to go to this elite party. Its for the Dawn's Angels and Chiefs."
"Chiefs?"
"In correspondents to Dawn's Angels, the Academy's guys are also split into their respectful groups. Chief is the highest. Jessie, your roommate, is one of them. He'll be at the party too."
Rihanna shook her head. Vincent had warned her to stay away from all social gatherings in case she slips up. "I don't think I can."
Summer was baffled. No one had ever refused an invitation from her before, especially to one of her parties, however she decided to suck it up and roll the dice. "It'll be really fun. You might find your intended." She tried to make that as an excuse.
"I don't date."
"Oh really?" That caught Summer off guard. She didn't realize that Rihanna had the upper hand in whether she had a boyfriend or not. "Why not?
"I just don't."
Summer waited for further explanation, but none came. She interwind her fingers in front of her, and crushing all her dignity, in a sad tone she said, "Do I have to beg you?"
This made Rihanna uncomfortable. It was enough that the bank statement was fake, she knew she shouldn't push her luck any further.
"Who'll be at the party you said?"
Summer sensed Rihanna giving in and broke a smile. "Only the nation's finest. And might I say you might change your idea about dating once you see some of the guys there." She grabbed a card out of her purse and gave it to Rihanna. Then stood up. "Its on the weekend."
Rihanna smiled, her heart pounding with discomfort from the whole idea. "Sounds great."
Summer turned and walked away. Her smile melted off her face the second she turned. Feeling aggravated, she made her way out of the dinning hall.
When she reached the assembly room where morning announcements were held, she slumped on one of the seatings and rested her head back against the soft fibers. And closed her eyes.
Rihanna... what an interesting person. Why would someone with wealth so vigorous carry herself on such an insecure and timid personality? Why, when she can so easily afford her own hairstylist, did she have hair so poorly done? Why, even though she's clearly not blind, can she not look in a mirror and realize that her eye makeup was everything but tolerable.
"Someone's happy."
Summer opened her eyes and quickly straightened up in a ladylike manner, with her feet tucked away. She glared at Lexis. Who seemed to have been sitting there for awhile. Had she not noticed him when she came in?
Summer huffed and looked away in distaste. Lexis was the only person in the whole school who she can blow steam off in front of, and not worry of rumors spreading. "There is this unbearable bitch, but I have to kiss up to her to get on her good side."
Lexis smirked. "Finally. Competition with the queen?"
Summer looked away, her eyes showing her need to kill someone. "The last thing I expected was for someone like her to enroll." She sighed, irritated over and beyond. "If only I can dig a little dirt on her and spread rumors, I might have a chance to get her out of here. I'm afraid she has your best friend as back up though."
She can tell by the way Jessie looks at her, he's definitely got something going on. She'll never admit that to Rihanna nevertheless. Summer herself not once had the chance with the sophisticated and incredibly good looking Jessie, no matter how many times she had tried in the past, so why should some newly enrolled rich trash do?
Lexis looked serious for once. "I've never put a label on our relationship, so why would others do?" He breathed out a long breath. "It's starting to irritate me more than it should."
Summer stared at him, studying his reaction. "You and Jessie fought?"
"Change the subject. Its none of your business."
"It is. Apparently I'm your future fiancé."
He chuckled without humor. "Do you have any idea how many future fiancés I've had in the past year alone?"
"Ones that haven't lasted as long as this one?" Summer said, as if the answer couldn't be anymore easier.
"Who is she?"
"What?"
"The girl you were talking about. The competition."
"Only the one girl everyone can't stop talking about. Have I ever mentioned how loud rumors between the Angels are? Before you know it, everyone knew of her ridiculous account balance."
"How much?"
"It was in the twelve digits."
It didn't take big brain long to figure it out. He let out a low whistle. "That's heavy. Don't let my dad know about her." He smirked. For some reason, Summer became uncomfortable with what he said. "How come no one knew about it before? You usually figure it all out before the Academy's first day."
Summer crossed her legs and looked away, tapping her forefinger on her knee. "She enrolled in late. Its weird that you didn't hear about her. She shares a dorm with your best–Jessie."
She looked at Lexis, thinking she'll see some sort of recognition in his eyes, but his blank expression, like always, was unreadable. He only stared at her as if she was going to say more.
"Rihanna, that's her name. Rihanna Gessner."
He nodded and looked away.
She waited for him to say something this time. Surely he had heard of her, but no comment was made by him.
Summer huffed. "Can you believe she refused to come to one of my parties?"
Lexis snorted. He looked at Summer and with simplicity said. "She's not on the A-list, not even close."
Summer was caught off guard. "W-what?" She stuttered. "How could you possibly know that."
"Its possible that its the very reason why she has no interest in attending your party. She's afraid her cover will slip up."
Summer shook her head with small movements, her smile was small as she said. "Can't be. She showed me a statement."
"And?"
"And nothing. It was clear. The statement was checked and confirmed. It's authentic."
"And?"
Summer now became irritated. She knew that what she had was the real thing, and was irritated that Lexis somehow thought it wasn't. "What's your problem?"
"I'm being frank with you. Do you have any idea how easy it is to forge things, whether it be documents, cards, IDs, papers, literally anything you could think of, I could effortlessly obtain by simply finding the right person for the job?"
Summer lightly snorted. "No way, not a bank account."
He shrugged. "I'm sure I have much more experience in such a field than you could possibly ever do. Give me the statement. I'll have my guy check to see if its really as legitimate as you say it is, or if it's not."
She sighed. Tempted to refuse just to tick him off, she grabbed the statement from her purse and gave it to him.
He opened the folded paper and slowly scanned it, a minute later his eyebrows pulled together. "Huh."
Summer stared at his confused expression. "What? Do you get what I mean now?"
He shook his head. "I only wonder who did such a fine job. I'm considering whether to hire them to do some work for me too."
Summer rolled her eyes. "It is legit. That's why you're that surprised."
He shrugged and folded the paper into his pocket. "My guy can hack into bank systems too. He'll investigate whether this is an actual account. The way I see it, that girl is only on the first step of the ladder, and nowhere near what this paper says."
Summer stood to her feet. "I'll be glad to prove you wrong. My guy is one of the best fraud detectors on the planet. Otherwise, you won't see a universal model standing in front of you right now."
Lexis stayed quiet and she left. When she was completely out of sight, he took the paper out again and unfolded it, his brain frenzied with so many levels of thought.
Rihanna Gessner...
This is your third appearance before my eyes, in the light of question and wonder.
It should stop there. It needs to stop there. After he proves the bank statement is fake, she shouldn't need to be of anymore significance.
