MOVIE >scene139> - A Dorm. A Delinquent. A Girl.
Fayth chewed on her lunch, ever so slowly, recalling what Charles said over and over again. No matter how many times she did, something in her heart jumped in fear and told her that it was everything but. How can someone so vile have a place in his heart for compassion. What she felt towards Jessie, there is no way Lexis could ever muster to acknowledge, possess, convey. He was dead. Feelings for others are nulled, muted, put aside and shut down. He puts a void to everything that wasn't Anthony and Bubbles.
He was cold. Mentally broken.
However, to be well rounded, she did admit that he'd come in-between her and Jessie more times than normal. To the point where Jessie and Fayth could only sit alone together nowadays in their own dorm at night.
And even that, at times, was interrupted by Lexis.
"So...odd." A deep voice said, taking a seat across from her. "Do explain how you did it."
Fayth's head jerked up, surprised by Lexis' presence after what Charles had said. Quickly, she looked back at her lunch and kept quiet.
Lexis crossed his arms on the table and leaned in, bringing his face close to hers. "You do realize what you have done only perked my curiosity that much more, don't you? In less than fifteen minutes I get a call? I expected an entire week to pass before I heard any good news. How is it possible that you were able to take action that fast? Over such an incredible corporation like Armstrong Next? Over someone as hardheaded as my father..."
Fayth kept quiet.
"Answer at the very least that. My increasing curiosity could only hurt you."
"The heir and I are on very good terms." Fayth boldly said, erasing borders and expectations.
"You and Armstrong?"
She looked away. "We went to prep school together. Back in the days. It paid off."
Lexis squinted his eyes thoughtfully at her. Swiftly, he took ahold of her chin and made her look at him. He was still studying her. His eyes looking over the little details that might suddenly make sense.
I'm connecting the dots. Its all there. There is just one thing I'm missing. One thing that'll pull the cover off the whole puzzle.
She jerked her head away from his hold, and looked away again. She suddenly felt violated, close to an edge that wasn't there. She could feel him get closer to the truth, get closer to her identity. She had an overwhelming feeling in her gut, an intuition that was hovering over her. Lexis Ellis was closer to her real self than anyone ever was.
He picked up a glass cup from the table and slid his arm so the cup was lingering above the tile floor.
Let her witness glass crashing...you'll find out who she really is.
He stared at the girl in front of him, fearful and mysterious. His eyes were lost in wonder. What's glass shattering to you? How can I possibly find out who you really are from such a simple action?
He slowly let the glass slip from between his fingers, tempted to find out. His eyes wouldn't leave her blank expression, her questioning eyes. She was probably feeling it, feeling how close he was to the truth. He can feel it too. He was closer to the reality she hid from everyone than ever before.
It must be something unpleasant. If Vivian had given me this clue based off temporary hate, then shattering glass must be something unpleasant for her.
He was suddenly awoken from the trance he was in. He looked around at the crowded room. A sickening feeling clouded his stomach and chest.
Something twisted, mentally exhausting for her.
He gritted his teeth and put the cup back on the table. There were too many watching. He decided that if he was going to do it, he would at least have to be the only witness of her reaction, whatever it maybe.
"You're allowed to meet with Dawn."
Fayth's surprise was apparent on her face. If there was one thing she thought he would disagree on, it was this.
"I'm only agreeing because I can't deny her of what she compellingly wants." He quickly cleared. "I made a time for you and her on a weekly basis. On the condition that I be present to make sure you don't feed her head with those useless thoughts again."
"How is it useless if it's the truth." She mumbled. "Your parents lack emotion."
The words had slipped out of Fayth's mouth without a second thought.
Lexis took ahold of her jaw and forced her to look up at him–at his sudden deadly expression. "You shouldn't insult them so easily like that." He said through gritted teeth, a lazy smile slowly forming on his lips.
She stood to her feet, revolted by his touch. Her dark expression slipping onto her face.
He also stood up, and before leaving, he looked her dead in the eyes, their expression mirroring for the first time, and said. "Tell Charles I said hello."
Feeling exhausted and no longer hungry, she made her way to the piano room. Her one hope as she climbed the stairs was for Anthony to be there waiting for her, making jokes and adoring her like he always did.
Her phone rang. She pulled it out and answered.
"I have good news and bad news." Vincent began.
"What's the good news?"
"Ellis didn't react harshly business wise to us calling off the engagement."
Fayth let out a long sigh of relief. It felt like a big boulder had been lifted off of her chest. "And the bad news?"
"The reason they didn't is because I broke it off with Lexis as the excuse."
"What?!" Fayth's eyes opened wide.
"I told him that it seemed like Lexis wasn't keen about the engagement, and that we wouldn't want him to go through with it if he's not comfortable with the idea. It seemed like John was expecting that much. He said that he understood and he still would like us to get together on the upcoming Sunday. Not for any official plans. Just as co-workers getting to know each other. He's hoping his son will become more lenient upon meeting you. Under the tight business circumstances... I agreed."
Fayth let out a sigh of disbelief this time. "Vincent!"
"I know. I know. We have one last string with them. There won't be an engagement. Just a quick meal. And you can even excuse yourself earlier than the rest of us saying you have an important meeting you have to attend to. I will send them off and all will be well."
She closed her eyes and stopped outside the piano room. "I don't know why I have a bad feeling about this."
She pressed a fist against her chest. Something was clouding her mentality, making her suffocate.
"I really don't like the idea Vincent."
"Don't worry. I'll take care of everything."
They hung up and she stared at the phone's screen for a long time before she slipped it back into her pocket.
It already feels like Lexis is closer than ever to figuring out everything about me. He could only be missing one piece, one spot, one sudden idea that can unravel everything for him. And me going to that dinner could be the place where it may happen.
She walked into the piano room, getting ready to tell Anthony everything about what was happening. Surely, he'll help. Maybe he'll come to the dinner too and distract Lexis for her.
She smiled at the idea, finding it reasonable.
"Anthony–" She looked closely at the person sitting on the piano bench, his fingers running on top of the keys without letting them make a sound.
"Hey!" She smiled and closed the door behind her. "What are you doing here?"
Kurt smiled back and stood up. "Finally, what took you forever?"
She put her hand on her chest and acted surprised. "You mean your highness was waiting for me?"
"Screw you." He grinned. "I heard this was your safe haven."
She rolled her eyes. "Satanic lair, safe haven, what's the difference. That's like saying you and a deaf person are different."
He playfully wrapped his arm around her neck and held her tightly. "Take it back."
She laughed. "I'm in a bad mood. Let me go."
"Why?" He let her go. "What happened? You looked at yourself in the mirror?"
She lightly punched him in the stomach. "Ass."
He hunched over in pain, acting as if it hurt.
"Oh, come on!" She punched him harder in the shoulder.
He smiled again and stood up. "Do you want to talk about it? I'm here for you. I could probably help."
She sighed. Anthony wasn't there, and she had really wanted to vent off to him.
Kurt was kind. She knew that, but Anthony was different. Easier to deal with, to talk to, to be true in front of.
"Now to think about it, you never really got around to telling me your secret. The one I might not be able to handle."
She looked at him and studied his expression. "You know," she said, frowning. "You have a weird cute smile. Like your kid-days lips had never grown up."
He stared at her for a few seconds before he burst out laughing. "Is that a compliment?"
She nodded. "Yeah."
He shook his head and looked at his watch. "I'm going to head out." He leaned in front of her and tapped her nose with his finger. "How about you and your stressed self come with me and you can tell me all about your bad mood."
If Anthony isn't here yet, then he might not come tonight.
She sighed, and nodded. "Kidnap me from my stress, your highness."
