Chapter 4
"But you'll always fail to see I'm forever broken."
"He looks so cute when he's sleeping." Lui commented as he glanced over at Evan, who was now completely passed out, using his backpack as a pillow.
"Lui, quit checking him out and pay attention to the game, Nogla is about to beat you." Tyler joked as he noticed David starting to move his character towards Lui's unmoving one.
"Shit!" Lui cursed as he gripped the controller and tried to fight Nogla off, only to end up being beaten by him. "Damnit!" He screamed, laughing a little.
The others burst into laughter as well when the door opened and Mrs. Thompson walked in, carrying a tray of cookies. "Sounds like you boys are having fun in here. Oh, is Evan already asleep?" She said, noticing the sleeping boy on the other side of where everyone was, the expression on her face obviously pleased with his sleeping arrangement.
Craig nodded. "Yeah, he fell asleep on my bed so we moved him, he's been out for a while now." He said, his eyes not leaving the screen as Lui tried to get the drop on David this time.
"I'm surprised you all haven't woken him up with all the noise you've been making. You've even woken up my husband!" She exclaimed, baffled that Evan could still be sleeping.
Tyler shrugged. "He's always been a heavy sleeper. Sorry to wake you, we'll be quieter." He promised as she set the tray down and walked out, closing the door behind her as the boys continued to play their game.
-----------
Evan woke up, blinking rapidly to clear his vision of any sleep still left in them, his vision fixated on Craig's ceiling.
It was still dark out, he could tell because of the lighting in the room and moonlight was still flooding in through the windows. He laid back down, resting his head on his backpack like before since he had sat up without realizing it.
He couldn't remember what his dream was about, but it must have been either too good to be true or it was a nightmare, and Evan didn't feel like he had just been through a nightmare.
Looking around, he saw his friends' sleeping figures, they were all knocked out cold. It was Saturday, and for once Evan did not have a hangover, it was surprising.
He sighed, letting his face fall into a passive expression, something he didn't often have in his waking hours, because he always seemed to find a reason to smile. He was like the sun, always providing light no matter the weather, even when the rain clouds rolled in, he was still shining as brightly as before.
A wave of anxiety washed over him, the real reason why he was unsure of, because usually he can tell when he's going to go into a panic attack, but this one was sudden.
Opinions. The word was suddenly plastered throughout his mind, screaming at him from all angles. Suddenly thoughts of what everyone thinks of him rushed through his head, he didn't know why. He hated when there was no reason.
His insecurity was getting the better of him, right then and there in the middle of all his friends, who were still sleeping.
His first instinct was to leave immediately, he didn't want his friends to wake up while he was having a panic attack, but his legs felt frozen, he just couldn't move.
So he did the next best thing; he prodded Tyler, who was sleeping the closest to him, repeating his name while he still had some voice left.
"T-Tyler, Tyler wake up, please I need you." His voice shook, badly, as he whispered his name one more time before Tyler opened his eyes.
Tyler looked at Evan with sleep-filled eyes, but immediately became awake when he saw his shaking friend. Acting quickly, he pulled Evan into his arms to calm him down, rocking him back forth while running a hand through his hair.
"Hey, hey, it's alright. I'm right here, Ev. I got you, you're good." He said, keeping his voice low so he didn't wake anyone else up. He knew Evan wouldn't be able to calm down if anyone else saw he was upset.
Evan's breathing slowed as he relaxed in Tyler's arms, who kept repeating comforting words to him. Once his breathing became normal Tyler released him, allowing him to turn towards his friend.
"Thanks, Tyler. I-I needed that." He admitted, his gaze shifting slightly down to avoid Tyler's concern-filled look.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Tyler asked gently, still keeping his voice low.
"Anxiety attack, I'm fine now. But any longer and I might have passed out. Thanks."
"No problem, glad I could help. Um, do you get those often?" Tyler's voice had taken an awkward turn, Evan usually wasn't this way, he was usually the happy and upbeat person, it was who he was.
Evan shook his head. "No, just every once and a while, I usually deal with them by myself."
"I don't think that's healthy, Ev."
He shrugged. "I've always been really self-conscious about it."
Tyler patted his shoulder comfortingly. "Well, next time you have one, just tell me okay? Get some rest buddy." He said, settling back into his sleeping position, not even closing his eyes until he heard Evan do the same.
But when everyone woke up in the morning, just a few hours after Evan's episode, Evan was gone. He had left a note about having to go home for some reason, but Tyler knew better now.
Evan didn't trust himself to be around them, so he chose to be alone.
Tyler internally sighed, wishing that Evan could be more open about his feelings. They were his friends, they're supposed to help each other in times like these, but instead Evan chose to keep things to himself, and that wasn't good.
Because he was like a bottle, every time he kept something hidden he was shaking himself, and one of these days he was bound to explode.
