Alpha :  The leader of a pack. A high dominant.  Leads the pack by overseeing all their needs. Doesn't submit to anyone. Takes a beta,  Lupin or Omega for his/her mate.

Beta : The secondary superior commanding males or females in a pack. They mate with the Alphas, Betas or Lupins, depending on whether they are dominant or submissive. They are controlling by nature. Make good leaders and fighters. They form the team of Varkers that protect the pack.

Lupins: The pup bearing males or females who are Submissive in nature. They mate with dominant Betas or the Alpha. They take care of the domestic affairs of the pack.

Luna: Mate and Second in command to the Alpha. Can be chosen from the lupins, Betas,or Omega in the pack. Oversee the domestic affairs of the pack and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Omega: Submissive pup bearing male or female. They are unique for their pack uniting qualities. They're a step above normal lupins. They're usually mated to the Alpha and help in smooth running of the pack by keeping the peace between the members. They can comfort others distress and offer good advice naturally.  They are expert negotiators.. They are rare and therefore referred to as Eyolf or the lucky wolf.

Coming of age: Basically in this book the wolves come of age at 18. Though their body s ready for mating since 13 or 15 yrs depending on the individual.  Their heats and ruts start in tat age. The body transforms into their wolf form for the first time when they get their heats or rut. After that they can transform at will.

Heats: The duration of a wolf's heat can be 3 to 4 days. During this period the wolf experiences high body temperature and increase in sexual need, driving the Lupins and Omegas to seek the company of a dominant. They produce large amounts of slick to aid in easy penetration and to attract the dominants by scent. Heats can be masked using heat suppressants, but it's not advised to do so as when they return it can be terribly difficult and it disrupts the mating cycle. 

Ruts: Dominants get ruts instead of heats, they don't produce slick. Their scents also intensify during ruts and their need for sex s high. They have no control over their senses at that time.

Mates: Mates are identified only after the wolves come of age. They recognize the scents of each other to be stronger or more captivating, thereby allowing their wolf counterparts to recognize each other.

Marking : Once mates are identified, they're bonded for life.  They go over a formal ceremony and the dominant marks their Submissive permanently as theirs. Marking is mostly done in the neck region around the scent glands.  Once mates are marked, their scents are altered to be pleasant only to each other. If a mate dies the other experiences extreme pain. In some weaker cases even death of the surviving partner occurs due to unbearable pain  from separation.
