Chapter Seven;Leave Me Alone

"Found this morning on her front lawn was the dead body of Lindsay Stander. Her parents reported that last night she went to the memorial and funeral or classmate Tyler Brooks, and never came home last night but this morning they found their beloved daughter, stabbed and frozen over on her front lawn, only being found by her dog that was barking at her frozen body." I hold my hand over my mouth as they go on about finding her body.

I turn off the TV, holding my knees to my chest as the police keep looking for comments on her profile, or Tyler's. "Found one." I rush to my computer that Officer Singer is on.

Officer Rose immediately got to work, honing in on a location. She got a location in a number of minutes, groaning and leaning back on the couch. "Disposable phone two states. There has to be multiple people in this." I chew on my lip. Tyler, Lindsay. I'd have to guess who's next and if I had to guess I'd have to say it's me. I'm a terrible person too.

Her funeral is sad, pink and everything Lindsay would have wanted. Everyone is wearing pink and black, so I just wear a black dress with bright pink lipstick. I bite my lip as everyone files out of the graveyard. Lindsay was buried next to her grandfather. "Mae!" I turn my head, River running to me as I walk down the street in the snow. He takes keys out of his pocket, softly smiling as he digs his nose into his scarf as snow falls in his hair making the blue highlight brighter. "I have a car, if you want a ride home."

"I-I don't really want to go home right now." I lower my head, my ponytail bouncing against my back. Why did I pull my hair up. Tyler would have told me how to do my hair. And I don't want to go home. Father came home last night, drunk and Moms dealing with him right now, and I don't want to be involved in that right now.

"I could take you to someone's house if you want too. I just don't want you freezing to death," he laughs, rolling his eyes and looking at me. "Where do you want to go?"

The coffee shop will be full and I'm craving a hot chocolate. "Why don't I go to your place?" I lift my head, looking at him. "I want to see where you live, i-if that's okay."

He smiles and laughs. "Why not." I follow him down the street to his car, him unlocking the door on the black 1996 Ford Bronco.

I get into the passenger seat and buckle in, River buckling up and driving off down the street. He continues to drive until he reaches an apartment building, pulling into a parking spot. I look up at the building. It's five stories with majority of the rooms having balconies. He helps me out and we walk inside, taking the elevator up to the third floor. We walk down the hall and I study each door. They all look the same with the numbers changing and going up. 342, 343, 344, 345, 346 and so on. We reach the end of the hall and he unlocks the door. Room 351.

"Sammy! I'm back!" River calls, closing the door behind me as a tall man walks out of the bathroom, a flush coming behind him. He scratches his stomach and rubs his eyes as he walks out of the bathroom. He's at least three inches taller then River, him having the same black hair and blue eyes. He looks at me, then River and groans.

"What did I tell you about bringing people over?" He rubs his hands down his face, walking into the kitchen and putting on a pot of coffee.

"She doesn't want to go home yet, so I brought her here. No big deal." River nervously laughs, pointing to the couch. I sit down as they talk in a whispered hush. I look around. No pictures, no flowers or anything decretive besides a couch, table and TV, then the whole kitchen and dinning table set up and then the hall which most likely leads to both of their rooms and the bathroom.

"River, I have friends coming over and if they see a girl here–God knows what'll they'll do. When they get drunk or high enough they'll fuck anything."

"So don't have them drink."

"They're college kids, they'll drink either way," they go quiet. I shouldn't be listening, but it's the only thing I'm good at. "Just stay in your room, they'll be over in a couple of minutes so please just keep out." River walks into the living room, smiling at me.

"Come on, let me show you my room."

A party grew and I was trapped in Rivers room with him. We ran out of things to talk about and we couldn't find any games to play that we had already played. We were both lying on his bed, listening to the music that boomed through the walls but it was muffled, so we could still hear each other if we spoke normally. The clock on the wall ticked to nine p.m.. I have been at Rivers house for nearly four hours.

"Wanna play Truth or Dare?"

"No..." My voice fades with the music.

"I can drive you home-"

"No it's fine. I don't want to spoil your brothers mood." I smile and sit up, even if I desperately want to go home, I don't want to ruin Sam's fun. River sits up, smiling at me and leaning on his arm.

He looks at me, he doesn't say a thing, only looks. I tuck a piece of my hair behind my ear, taking my ponytail out a while ago, shifting uncomfortably under Rivers gaze. His smile lingers on his lips in a small smirk, his arm resting on his hip as he stares at me. "I never noticed how beautiful you are."

"I-I'm anything but," I nervously laugh, pulling my hair into my face and twisting the strand on my finger.

"No seriously," he laughs. He sits up and smiles, crossing his legs and holding my hands on my lap. I can't help but look at him. "You're gorgeous, the prettiest girl I've ever seen."

I can't help but blush at the thought of anyone else finding me pretty. Tyler, he always thought I was perfect;even if he didn't say it, but I wasn't around people enough for anyone else to compliment me. "No I'm not."

"Yes you are Mae. You're the most perfect girl I've ever met." He smiles, cupping my jaw and smiling softer. He moves his head closer, his lips growing to a weak pucker as his eyes shut. I move my head back, River opening his eyes and blushing and moving his head back. "Y-You're still grieving. I-I-I'm so sorry for hitting on you when your heart still belongs to someone else."

"N-No it's fine." I hold my hand out in front of me, River wracking his hands through his hair. "I-I just...I can't get over Tyler, River. I still love him, and always will." He nods, biting his lip and sand up, running his hand through his hair and grabbing his keys from his nightstand.

"Let me drive you home."
