Chapter 3: A Fighter's Spirit

Thought I'd be nice:)

"Shit..." you muttered. "There's no time!" You grabbed Zoro by the shoulder yanking him to face your direction. "You don't have your swords. We have no other choice. You're going to have to use me!"

"I-uh-what!?" Zoro stammered.

Annoyed with Zoro's lack of understanding, you stomped your foot looking up at Zoro with desperation notable upon first glance. "Perona needs our help and most importantly we need to hold down the fort since Mihawk is out taking care of matters with Shanks at the moment," you quickly explain, scampering over to your open door with a flurry of your feet just to poke your head out into the hallway for a quick survey of the battlefield to come. By the looks of it, there were a few baboons casually sniffing around in your hallway. They were knocking over things just for the heck of it, laughing like immature children.

Zoro understood where the problems lied, most importantly how options were just as equally tied down to this plan. "I think we're better off fetching my swords," even in the end, Zoro had disagreed with your proposal.

"Zoro," you growled slowly pushing the door to a shy close to avoid drawing attention to you both for the time being. "There's baboons... Three of them... Right outside the door," your voice remained silent as you kept the door open just a crack, surveying the hallway through the crack of the door. Eyes of a hawk that watched the enemies each and every move. "We can't protect ourselves at the moment without weapons."

"Have you forgotten I use three swords not one huge sword?" Zoro retaliates.

"Do we really have a choice?" Your golden eyes had bored right through to Zoro's soul. "Quit being so god damn stubborn."

"Thought Mihawk raised you better than to use that language," Zoro smirked.

"Shut up," you hissed. "This really isn't a time for jokes Mr. Ican'tfindthebathroom."

"I've never lived in a mansion before," Zoro huffed realizing just how easily this argument could've ended. All he did was hold out his left hand. "Are we saving Ghost Girl or not?"

"Nice to see that you're finally on board," you grinned. Your entire body faded to a blinding light, an orb that zipped across the room into Zoro's free hand. The orb began to take shape not even a second later, then flash! You were a sword in all your breathtaking glory. Zoro however fell forward digging his heels into the stone flooring as the blade crashed into the floor with Zoro having no other choice but to grab onto your bandaged handle with both hands. He could feel an energy course through his body through contact with your weapon form. Something extremely unlike what he'd feel even with his most prized sword Wado.

"What the hell! You're so heavy," Zoro huffed using what strength he could muster just to get the tip of the blade an inch above the ground.

"That means we aren't mentally compatible..." You groaned in response, Zoro had heard your feminine voice all so clearly as if you were speaking directly into his ear. It sent shivers down his spine, he had thought he was hearing you talk in sword form before, nothing compared to this.

"Why does that really matter?" Zoro growled. "Does saving our asses matter more than compata... Whatever the fuck you said?"

"Have you already forgotten what I had told you about this ability of mine?" You groaned once more due to absolute annoyance.

"Must have..." Zoro regrets to admit.

"Weapon and Master must act and think as one," you repeat. "We get along really well, I thought this wouldn't be a problem!"

"As did I," Zoro dropped you onto the floor without caution finding that he was wasting his energy on you for absolutely nothing. You had transformed back into your human form once again, sitting upon the ground with what was now a bruise caked to your forehead from where Zoro had dropped you just seconds before.

"Unless you're angry with me for some reason, this really should've worked..."

"Whatever... Now we're screwed," Zoro points out crossing his arms. "We can't protect ourselves, let alone I can barely handle those baboons as it is."

"Yeah... That's quite a problem," with all options limited to just one. The last drastic measure. You stood up from the ground, holding out your arms completely level like an airplane. Arms transforming into two separate blades of black steel. Zoro hadn't forgotten that you could transform select parts of your body into blades of an exact replica to your cross sword form. But sword arms? Without elbows you aren't going to defend or attack all that well, anybody could assume so.

"I'll hold off the baboons the best I can until you retrieve your swords Zoro," you speak wearing a fierce face showing you were ready for war. "You hear me?"

"This isn't going to end well..."

"Doubting me isn't going to get us anywhere," you snapped still keeping a low profile.

"How else do you expect me to think!?" Zoro snapped back. The door to your bedroom flew off its hinges and shattered the window on the opposite side of your room. Zoro's outburst must've drawn the baboons to the room, you thought. With only one baboon came a parade of others with swords at hand. You turned to face the baboons, glaring at them, they grew terrified in your presence. Even Zoro felt your heavy and overall terrifying presence, it was familiar somehow.

"Just because Mihawk isn't here to kick your ass... Doesn't mean I won't," you tut taking one step forward, meanwhile the baboon warriors all took descending steps back. "You all have some nerve invading my home," the baboons slowly inched out of the room without the need for you to come closer. Zoro had realized your true potential and readied himself to run in search for his swords to make sure he'd be of help. "Hurry Zoro," you inform the swordsman.

"Got it," Zoro nods. There still wasn't a big enough opening to escape just yet, the baboons were still occupying the doorway with wobbling knees and clattering jaws. And you weren't wrong about hurrying, the baboons had shed their terrified state within the minute, closing in on you alone. Zoro sprang from his spot once the first baboon completely bypassed him. Hate he admit it, he felt horrible leaving you to deal with the problem alone. If anything you were heroically sacrificing yourself for Zoro and Perona to escape the mansion safely. Something... Zoro has or had tried to do quite a handful of times before now.

You relaxed to an extent, finally allowing yourself to breath, glad that Zoro was no longer here. "Because I'm such a damn coward, I shouldn't even be gifted with the Conqueror's Spirit," you insult your own self as the baboon warriors closed in on you with faces of pure hunger for bloodshed. "Instead of taking risks... I'd rather die before even trying..." You turned sideways, letting the tip of your left blade kiss the floor, the other you held up towards the alpha baboon's throat. "I'm nothing like Zoro when it comes to combat... I gave in with my studies and remained as my father's sword all because I'm useless... I can't even protect myself in this form. And with Zoro's lack of direction, there's no way he'll be coming to my rescue," the baboons laughed in your presence hearing you succumb to defeat. "Just know... I've always preferred you monkeys over my first home."

"Ghost Girl!" Zoro barked as Perona hid within a corner of Zoro's bedroom in her human form all cowardly with a blanket draped over her being.

Perona whipped off the blanket hearing her deserved nickname. "My name is Perona you dumbass," Perona snapped much to her offense.

Zoro stuck out his tongue, strapping his three swords to his right hip. "Whatever... (Y/n) is sacrificing herself for us as we speak."

"Good!" Perona hummed rested her hands upon her hips. "Then we can leave this dump before-"

"We're saving her," Zoro states despite her wishes.

"What!? Why?" Perona complained. She bit her lip however, backing up into the corner the farthest she could as she caught glimpse of Zoro's cold grey stare.

"I'd do the same for my crew..." A series of faces flashed before Zoro's eyes like a reel of film. "Yet (Y/n) is fighting knowing her life is on the line for two strangers," Zoro couldn't help but think if it were even okay to call himself a friend let alone a guest within your home. You like him, he likes you. But your emotions were what drew him away for the worst.

"Then why can't you go save her yourself?" Perona spits.

"I plan to," Zoro nods. "By the time I reach her she'll be as good as dead. So you need to take me to (Y/n)'s room."

"Fine... Your lack of direction is quite a burden," Perona fell limp, and out sprouted her spirit from her torso. "Let's save her and get out." Zoro nods his head again and followed closely after Perona's tail. He just wanted to punch himself in the face learning you were just three corners away from his latest position. Anyways, Zoro unsheathed his swords and dashed ahead of Perona and bulldozed any baboons in his way. He made it to your room after what was a load of work that left him heaving for air up against the doorframe.

Zoro had lifted his head, it was as if the world manually put on slow motion as Zoro didn't want to believe his eyes. Your blades for arms engulfed with light, transforming back into your actual arms as you plummeted to the ground with gaping slashes stretching across your chest in the shape of an X. The head baboon stood behind you while you fell with his knees bent and two swords held behind himself. Zoro recognized that stance, even his crew could recognize such a move with ease. The primate had used Zoro's Oni Giri move against you and left within a state of shambles.

Zoro clenched his feet, breathing growing head and laced with poison. "And I thought I made great time," Zoro stepped forward, catching the attention of the head baboon while tying his bandana around his head. "You bastards are dead once I'm done with you," Zoro had fought the baboons well enough they had made a run for their money. It didn't take all that much, Zoro was pissed, seething with anger and destroyed everything within range with each swipe of his swords.

"You alive (Y/n)?" Zoro didn't dare to check up on you. He be relying on his hopes that you had survived.

"Y-Yes..." You whimpered. Zoro sprang to life dropping his swords from where he stood.

"Talk about a miracle," Zoro grinned, taking a knee looking down upon your state of suffering with your hair fanned out beneath you, and heavy lidded eyes that no longer looked fierce like Zoro once saw them before. "I'm not a doctor, how good is your pain tolerance?"

"Low... But whatever," your lip quivered. You raised one hand, cupping Zoro's cheek. "I'll tell my dad... He should train you."

"(Y/n)," Zoro chuckled. "I won't accept payment for saving your life."

"No," you managed to grin despite your pain. "This event... It opened my eyes a bit... I'm a shit swordsman... Just a sword..."

"Basically saying you got your ass handed to you."

"Yes," you giggle. "But what I meant was... Was that those baboons, they only run for the hills in the presence of my father... You have... My support... Beat him."
