Chapter 10
No matter how many times I tapped out a text or conversation starter, I found myself deleting it everytime. This ended up going on for two weeks before I made any progress.
I was sat on the brown leather sofa in the living room with a mug of black coffee on the end table, with Feliciano sat across from me. Personally, I thought he was engrossed in the book and wouldn't strike up conversation, but apparently I was wrong. Everything from the vintage stone fireplace to the mahongany bookshelves seemed like they were laying in wait for my answer when Feliciano first spoke out.
"Lovino?"
I snapped up from where I had been doodling on some homework (oh well, Emma wouldn't be mad) and gazed over at the auburn haired boy.
"Yeah?" I said warily.
"In this book that I'm reading the lady finally reunited with her boyfriend as he went to work in Tokyo for a year."
Not only was the statement vague, but to me it seemed completely random. I sat with my eyebrow raised for a few seconds, realized where this was going, and pretended to play innocent.
"That's nice." I smiled enthusiastically.
"It really is. They hadn't been able to feel eachother's touch for a whole year. Only digitally." Feliciano sang innocently- too innocently.
"Uh-huh. Must've been nice for them." I smiled again.
"You know what else would be nice?"
Shit. Checkmate.
"What's that?" I asked, trying to keep the spite from my voice.
"If you texted Antonio."
Sighing, I rolled my eyes as if to say that I didn't care, but really I did. And who did Feli think he was? How did he know that I hadn't texted- not that I had- but anyways.
"I have texted Antonio." I flat-out lied.
"Don't lie to me."
"Fine." I muttered. "I haven't."
"Why not?"
I sighed, pulled out my phone, and stares at the screen, the empty text box waiting to be filled with greetings.
"I don't know how."
There was a big sigh from Feliciano as he put down his book and took a sip from his hot chocolate. His arm outstretched and his palm opened.
"Give it here." He said, motioning to my phone.
I scowled. "No."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't know what you'll be texting."
"Well it's not like I wont show you before it's sent! Do you think I'm that evil?"
Sighing, I handed my phone over to Feliciano, where he sat for thirty only thirty seconds composing before handing the sleek silver object back to me. I skimmed over the text once, twice, before becoming very confused. How could someone come across as so interesting in only thirty seconds?
'Hey, Tonio! This is probably weird just randomly getting this but it's Lovino, if you remember me. Im that one guy who passed out the other day. Oh, and Francis sold out your number to me, so please don't judge me, I promise I'm not stalking you.'
After checking and double checking the text, I decided it was my best bet. Pressing send was both relieving and terrifying.
"What have I done." I muttered.
"God's work."
I snorted at the sarcasm laced into Feli's voice and rolled over to face the back of the sofa. Sighing, I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, and if for one second that phone pinged, I'd go into overdrive.
-----------------------------------
"Oh my gosh! Lovino! You know I'm really happy Francis sold me out because I really wanted to get to know you more. We didnt really get to talk much from the whole, yknow, you passing out thing."
"That's what he said?"
"Yes."
"I see..."
I groaned. "What do you see here?"
"I see that he's telling the truth."
"You're just saying that so I feel good about myself."
"I am not! Anyways, watcha gonna say?"
"Mm. I dunno."
"Wow. What an interesting person you are- and here I thought you were good at flirting!"
"Im only good when I actually have no interest in a person- wait. Im not fucking flirting!"
"No. Of course not. You're flirting so you can get to the fu-"
"Ah! Language, young man."
"You sound like grandpa."
"That was my intention."
"So, like, whatcha sayin?"
"Okay so how about like... 'yeah thanks im so glad you dont think im a stalker'?"
"Charming."
"Yeah, believe it or not Im no Prince Charming."
"Yeah, you're more like Shrek."
"Oh wow. Im glad you love your big brother."
"Oh please. Now get texting, the boy's probably lying in wait."
"Im doubtful. And anyway, he's more of a man than a boy."
"True- wait, how old is he?"
"Probably old enough to turn our relationship into a legal matter."
"Oh."
"Oh... more like 'oh well' amirite? Hahaha, yeah. But honestly this whole thing is innocent anyways."
"For now."
"Shut it, you."
"Okay, but like. Text him back, yeah?"
I sighed, looked down at the keypad and tapped in a new message. I showed the glowing screen to Feliciano as if waiting for approval.
"You sound too nonchalant."
"That was my intention."
"But you gotta keep the energy up! He cant reply if you sound bored."
"I dont want him expecting anything of me! I'm anything but excitable. Anyways, he seems to have enough boundless energy, so he can carry the damn thing."
"Okay, pass it here and I'll modify it."
Rolling my eyes, I passed the phone over to Feli. "It's just like pass the parcel."
"Okay, okay. How is this?"
I glanced down at the message.
'Yeah, shame I was out for like two days, could've spent the time meeting more random people on balconies.'
I snorted loudly as I read the text, a little smirk creeping onto the corner of my mouth.
"Liking the sarcasm." I laughed as I pressed send. "Move your ass up."
Feli budged up on the sofa to make room for me as I nestled down in the den of blankets that had accumilated on the cushy couch. I smiled as I pulled a cream throw over my legs, and finding it was already warm was a nice surprise.
"I like how this is coming along." Feli chimed happiliy, glancing at his own phone momentarilly.
"Stop living vicariously through my relationships." I hummed.
"Yeah."
We both trailed off into silence, allowing time to think before the next inevitable ping of the phone
