Chapter 3- Marke
As we approached, he was throwing a hackie sack, tossing it at trees and watching it bounce off, catching it again. He didn't even try to hide it, a bright red, orange, and yellow eye mark, accented by a blue eye, where the other was brown.
"Think fast!"He grinned as we approached, and tossed it at us. I caught it with ease.
"Eh, oh well. That was predictable, anyhow, if ya catch my pun. What can I do for you two?"He asked, leaning against the tree, grinning sleazily.
"We need to protect you, and a girl. We're just here to tell you."Eve said.
He let out a 'tch' sound, retrieved his toy, threw the sack high, and looked to us with a more dangerous grin.
"And what if I don't want to be protected?"He asked slowly.
"Then you'll destroy the world."I answered, shrugging.
His eyes widened, and the hackie sack hit him on the head.
"Alrighty, then!"He grinned nervously.
--
His name was Dakota Cumin. He was a Native American living with a large family, all who embraced their psychic powers. Except that the people around them weren't as accepting. I almost felt sorry. His family was a slightly threatening factor, though. If something happened, something that concerned their powers, there might be a modern witch hunt, designed just for psychics.
But then there was another factor.
--
"Excuse me!"I chased after the girl, who cruised through the hallway, tall, with golden hair and golden skin; just who we were looking for. Dakota followed behind, keeping up pace, and yet still managing to be lazy about it. The girl didn't stop. Dakota sighed, as I continued to yell out.
"Hey, babe, we're talking to you."He easily grabbed her shoulder and turned her around. She had hair covering her eye, and big glasses. I saw Dakota's breath hitch when he saw her face.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't think you were talking to me..." She sounded nervous, and scared, like we were going to punch her. Dakota caught onto this.
"Calm down, babe, we're not going to hurt you or anything we just want to talk and that's all and we can be on our way except--"
Somewhat. He had cut himself off, though, thank God. The girl still looked nervous, a poor nerd shaking where she stood as the others in the hall simply ignored us. I gestured for her to follow me, and Dakota pat her shoulder, attempting to reassure her again. This time, however, he didn't completely and utterly fail. That's different, don't read till the end.
She let herself be led along, till we got to the back of the school. She was a nervous wreck by then, confused and scared, even more so when she saw Eve by the back. Two nervous girls and two guys, not a good combination to calm someone so paranoid. Eve looked over, and saw her. And her complete paranoia.
"Hey, don't worry, it's fine, we won't hurt you, I'm with them, we just have something to tell you."She said, rambling this all out in one breath. I wasn't even sure if the girl heard all that she breathed.
Then there was silence. None of us knew how to explain.
Her name was Cierra. She didn't even have to introduce herself. Raised by a family who saw her powers as a curse and an insult, she was in an unstable position. She didn't realize she was a psychic, her family wouldn't tell her. All she knew was that she had a mark around her eye, and her family hated it. She was unaware of her power. She covered it up with make-up. But her power was unstable. You could see it in her eyes, one dark green and the other brown, her blond hair pulled up into a tight bun, her skin tan.
Out of pure nervousness, she went into Dakota's offered arms for a hug, and started a chain reaction of Dakota turning red, a shrub catching fire, her panicking, and Dakota clumsily explaining(yelling) that it was him who set it on fire.
She asked how. He said he could do it with his mind. She was fascinated. He said she could do stuff like that too. Wasn't this different? Don't read till the end.
