8. Realisation

After the whole fiasco at the Valley Fest, Kai made his way to speak to Sam and make sure she was ok, but he couldn't find her. So, accepting defeat, he dejectedly made home with Takeshi.

"Why did you want to find her anyways?" Takeshi asked.

Kai sighed, it was a long story. He wanted to tell her that he had fallen head over heels for her and didn't care that he was leaving soon, he just wanted to be with her and kiss her just like they did at the Beach club. He was going to make it work, make them work. He wanted to know that he wanted the two of them to be together.

"Just wanted to make sure she was ok." Kai lied.

"Sure..." Takeshi said, not believing the boy.

The two of them made their way back to the Hilton house and as they approached the driveway, they noticed a figure standing by the door.

"Who's that?" Takeshi asked.

"No clue."

Kai made his way forwards and edged closer and closer to the mysterious figure. "Uh...excuse me? Can we help you?"

The mysterious figure turned and revealed a middle aged man, dressed in a suit and tie looking extremely stern.

"I'm looking for William Hilton," the man said formally, "I am an associate of his."

"Sure," Kai said whilst opening the front door.

"KAI WATCH OUT!" Takeshi yelled.

In the blink of an eye, Kai turned and saw the man lunging towards Kai, ready to strike him. Kai blocked it and kept on blocking all the punches the man threw his way. He looked over at Takeshi who dropped his backpack and started helping Kai out. Together, the two of them were able to overpower this grown man and send him stumbling on the floor. Kai rushed over to his conscious body and pinned him to the ground, Takeshi monitoring from above.

"Who are you," Kai said through gritted teeth, "and what do you want."

The man refused to answer so Kai tightened his grip on the man.

"Don't make me repeat myself." Kai growled. "I can do a lot worse."

Just then, two figures burst out the front door. "MALACHAI!" a feminine voice yelled.

William and Rebecca Hilton both ran towards their son and looked at the man on the ground.

"Malachai..." his mother said worridly, "who is this?"

"He said he was a friend of yours dad," Kai explained, "and then when I turned my back he tried to attack me."

"I suspect he was trying to break in." William said, looking at the intruder coldly.

Kai sighed and performed a technique he had learned to make someone unconscious without hurting them a lot. He targetted a specific pressure point and with one strike, the man was out cold.

"Call the police William." Rebecca urged her husband.

William nodded and grabbed his phone.

"You boys go in, there's some food in the kitchen." Rebecca told them kindly, leaving the two of them walking into the household.

When they entered, they made eye contact with their Sensei who merely just gave them a nod of approval as his eyes glinted with pride. Smiling satisfied to each other, the two boys made their way to get some food.

"I reckon we deserve a treat after that," Kai said smugly, "fancy going to the Beach club tomorrow Takeshi?"

Takeshi grinned. "When would I ever say no?"

The next day, the two boys found themselves messing around and splashing the pool whilst observing everyone at the Beach club. Kai saw Sam talking to Robby and Aisha talking to another girl on the balcony.

Feeling jealous seeing Robby talk to Sam, Kai made his way underwater to near where they were both lying down.

"What's going on?" Kai overheard Robby say.

"It's Aisha...and someone else." Sam said. "Me and Aisha haven't spoken since everything that went down at Valley Fest. I feel like we should clear the air, but at the same time I'm still pissed at them for ruining our performance."

Robby looked up at the balcony. "I say go talk to her. Worst case, a fight breaks out and we can record it."

Sam chuckled.

"What about the other person?" Robby asked.

Sam sighed. "It's complicated. If you really wanted something no matter how bad it was or the problems it would cause, would you still go for it?"

"I'd follow my heart, cause if you really wanted something it'll cause even more problems if you can't get it." Robby replied.

Kai listened, his back pressed against the side of the pool. He was half-submerged in the chlorine water, with only the top of his head, his eyes and his ears above.

"Thanks Robby," Sam smiled, "I'll go talk to Aisha now."

As Sam stood up, Kai dived underwater to remain undetected and started swimming back to Takeshi.

"Did you have fun over there?" Takeshi asked.

Kai tried to act confused. "What do you mean? I was swimming some laps."

Takeshi rolled his eyes and laughed. "So it wasn't a coincidence that you just so happened to be right under Sam and Robby's noses, eavesdropping?"

Kai splashed some water at Takeshi. "Stop being a know-it-all."

Takeshi ducked as the water came his way and splashed Kai. "Oh you're on."

Once the small water fight in pool between the two boys had concluded, the two of them had decided that they wanted to get some food that was provided by the Beach club. After putting a vest on, Kai made his way to where the food was.

"Wait wait wait, stop Takeshi!" Kai said, suddenly pulling the boy back.

"Ow Kai, what is it?"

"Look over there." Kai said, pointing to Sam and Aisha, looking like they were talking.

"Are you going to eavesdrop again?" Takeshi asked, unimpressed.

Kai shushed at the boy. "Be quiet, I can't hear."

"So...how's it going? Sam asked Aisha.

Aisha scoffed. "You realise we're not ok."

"What are you mad about?" Sam questioned. "You guys were the ones who stomped all over our Valley Fest demo."

"Only after your father attacked our Dojo," Aisha retorted, "what were we supposed to do?"

"He didn't attack you guys." Sam defended.

Aisha raised her eyebrows. "No? 'Snake in the grass'? Real subtle."

"He's just trying to do the right thing." Sam said.

"What?" Aisha said, annoyed. "So Cobra Kai is wrong?"

Sam shook her head. "It's not wrong. It's just..."

The girl sighed. "What are we doing? It's our summer vacation, we're at the beach and we're fighting about karate?"

"When we should be fighting about boys." Aisha added with a chuckle.

Just then, Takeshi felt that it would be appropriate to push Kai over to where Sam and Aisha were. "Oh...hey Sam...Aisha, how you doing."

"Kai?" Sam asked, shocked.

Kai had an uneasy smile. "Yep it's me, in the flesh. Hope there aren't any hard feelings about All Valley Aisha." he added.

The girl shook her head and smiled. "Nope, don't worry. You were the better fighter."

Kai smiled. "So..."

"You know him Sam?" Aisha asked.

Sam nodded. "He's uh...my um...friend."

Those words hurt and Kai winced slightly, he didn't want to be friends, he wanted to be more.

"I'm super sorry to be ruining your little girl moment, but Aisha could I borrow Sam for a bit?" Kai asked, looking at Aisha hopefully.

Aisha chuckled. "Sure thing."

But just as Aisha was about the leave a girl joined them. "Hey...look what I got!"

The girl produced a bottle of vodka, and both Sam and Aisha looked shocked.

"I swiped it from the bar." the girl said cheekily, before noting the two other girls' expressions. "Oh relax. All the adults are getting wasted, no one's gonna notice if we have a little fun."

"You should put that back," Sam warned, "you'll get in big trouble."

The girl chuckled. "And you are?"

Aisha interjected. "Oh. Sam, this is Tory. Tory this is Sam."

"And I'm Kai." Kai said from the side.

"Come on," Tory laughed, "like anyone's gonna miss one bottle of vodka. I could swipe half the silverwear in this place without anyone noticing."

"You shouldn't steal anything." Sam told her.

"What are you? A nun?" Tory insulted.

Kai stepped in. "Don't say that about her. And for the record, stealing is immoral."

Tory scoffed. "Come on Aisha, let's go."

Aisha gave Sam an apologetic look and walked off.

"Ugh," Sam groaned, "I bet she's a new Cobra Kai member."

Kai grabbed Sam's hand reassuringly. "It's fine Sam, don't worry about it."

"What did you want to talk about anyways?" Sam asked, her cheeks slightly pink.

Kai suddenly became extremely nervous. "Well uh, well. I just wanted to say..."

He couldn't find the words so he put his words into actions and grabbed her softly and pulled her in for a kiss. Once they had parted he spoke again.

"Yeah...that sums it up. I like you Sam, a lot. And I want to make this, make us work."

Sam looked quite ecstatic. "I like you too Kai...we can make this work."

The two smiled brightly at each other before Kai pulled the shorter girl in for a hug. Sam buried her head in Kai's chest and Kai wrapped his arms protectively around Sam, resting his chin on her head.

"Hey," Takeshi said, coming from out of nowhere, "not to ruin your little party but Mrs LaRusso says her wallet it missing, do you want to help me find it?"

Sam shook her head. "No need...I know exactly where it went."

Sam walked quickly towards where Aisha and Tory were and both Kai and Takeshi followed closely behind.

"Hey!" Sam said to the two girls. "My mom's lost her wallet!"

"Sucks for her." Tory laughed, Aisha joining in.

"You wouldn't know anything about that?" Sam questioned.

"Wait..." Aisha said, "what are you saying?"

Sam looked at Tory seriously. "Just give me the wallet and I won't tell security."

"Are you kidding me?" Tory demanded.

"Sam," Aisha interrupted, "she didn't steal your mom's wallet."

Sam wasn't convinced. "Right, and she didn't steal a bottle of vodka, and wouldn't steal half the silverwear in here."

Tory moved forwards towards Sam. "Listen, I didn't rob your mom bitch. Now let's get out of here."

And with that, she turned her back and walked away. Sam, filled with fury and anger, moved forward and grabbed Tory.

"No Sam!" Kai shouted.

"Get off of me!" Tory yelled, shoving Sam. She lost her balance and Kai jumped in, ready to catch her but as he pushed her forward so she would stay on the feet, he lost balanced and found himself sprawled over the food table, cream and everything else sweet getting on him.

"Kai!" Sam said, who was on her feet supported by Takeshi. "Look what you did!"

Tory rolled her eyes and stormed off.

"Real nice friend you've made." Sam spat.

Aisha shrugged. "You shouldn't of accused her of something like that though."

And then Aisha followed closely behind Tory. Sam rushed over to Kai and tried to help him up.

"You ok?" Takeshi asked.

Kai shrugged. "I'll live."

Sam looked at the boy, grateful that he saved her and took the fall and the embarrassment for her. She looked at the boy and kissed him softly on the cheek.

"My hero." she smiled.

Kai grinned. "Now you've got chocolate mousse over your lip."

"And you've got chocolate mousse all over you," Sam replied, "c'mon, let's get you cleaned up."

Kai went off to clean himself up, he wasn't embarrassed because all that mattered was Sam liking him back, not Tory, not Aisha.

Only Sam mattered to him right now.
