5. The Cobra's Den

The euphoria from winning the All Valley Championships didn't leave Kai quickly, if it was any other tournament the excitement that came after winning would've died out, but because Kai had won despite Cobra Kai's cheating and dirty tactics, it made the victory just ever so much sweeter and more well-deserved.

The two teenage boys caught up with Sensei Yazuko after his catch-up with Daniel LaRusso, the two of them were acquaintances as they were both mutuals of Mr Miyagi. Sensei Yazuko and Mr Miyagi had both trained together on mutiple occasions even though they both practiced different forms of karate. Sensei Yazuko practiced Shotokan karate, whilst Mr Miyagi practiced Gojo-Ryu karate, a less aggressive and more defensive form of karate.

The following day, Sensei Yazuko still made sure to train the boys, even though they ddin't have their usual Dojo the boys were still made to undergo physical activity to make sure that they stayed in shape by making them both go on morning runs and still do their usual physical exercises.

Once they had finished their morning run, both Takeshi and Kai were dripping with sweat and the sun's rays shone onto the teenage boys. Kai's brown hair was wet and messy, as well as Takeshi's black hair.

"I'm still faster than you." Kai bragged to Takeshi who merely just rolled his eyes.

"Arrogance is an ugly emotion Kai-San." Sensei Yazuko told Kai who looked quite embarrassed after his Sensei told him off.

"Understood Sensei, I'm sorry." Kai replied, bowing his head.

Kai and Takeshu's training carried on with light sparring in the Hilton's back garden, they were only interrupted when Rebecca Hilton, Kai's mother, came outside to offer the boys and their Sensei a drink.

"Have you though about how long you're staying yet Malachai?" Rebecca asked her son. "Because the Principal of the high school here said that he doesn't mind offering a temporary space for you and Takeshi in his school."

Kai considered this offer, it did mean more of a chance to see Sam. He looked at his Sensei.

"How long are we going to be here Sensei?" Kai asked the older man.

"We will stay here for a month or so." Sensei Yazuko told the boy.

Kai nodded and looked at Takeshi. "What do you think about attending an American school?"

"It'll be a new experience." Takeshi told Kai.

Kai turned to his mother. "We'll turn up on Monday."

Rebecca Hilton nodded and returned back inside. "It's only for a few days," she warned them, "it's almost summer vacation anyways."

That afternoon, after their training session with Sensei Yazuko, Takeshi and Kai both decided to walk around the town and see what else was interesting about this place.

"How about we go visit the Cobra Kai Dojo?" Takeshi suggested.

Kai scoffed. "And do what? Rub in their faces that we won?"

Takeshi shrugged. "Maybe ask to join in? See how they train? Although a couple of their students were...unsportsmanlike, the majority of them were average fighters."

Kai sighed, it would be interesting but he didn't want to stir up any trouble. In the end, the two of them found themselves over towards Reseda and towards the Cobra Kai Dojo. When they had arrived, they found a pretty big queue outside the Dojo which looked like a tattered, old building.

"I suppose this is all because of how well they did during the All Valley Championship." Takeshi muttered to Kai as they approached the large group.

The two teenagers walked towards the group and once they all noticed Kai and Takeshi, they were both immediately bombared with questions and comments regarding their performance at the karate tournament.

"Can you teach us?"

"Who taught you?"

"How long have you been fighting for?"

"You're a legend! Winning even though you were injured!"

"Why are you here? Don't you hate Cobra Kai?"

Kai chuckled before addressing these questions. "Firstly, my Sensei is Sensei Yazuko from Tiger Claw karate in Japan. Secondly, I think it would be better if I let you learn from Cobra Kai because well, I don't want to steal their potential students. I've been doing karate for almost twelve years and I don't hate Cobra Kai, I barely know them. If you're referring to the Championships a couple of their students made rash decisions whilst under pressure, I hold nothing against them."

This seemed to satisfy the crowd and Kai and Takeshi opened the door and entered. the Dojo inside was already filled with Cobra Kai students but it looked like a mess. There was glass and fire marks on the wall.

"What the hell happened here?" Kai wondered out loud, only for his voice to be picked up by Miguel.

"Why are you here?" Miguel demanded.

"Calm down Miguel," Kai said calmly, "me and Takeshi are here to experience what it's like to train in Cobra Kai."

"We won't be here permanently." Takeshi said with a smile.

"So basically you're just here to rub it in our faces that we lost?" Hawk demanded.

"If that's what you want to believe, sure." Kai said, not wanting to start any arguments.

Just then, the Sensei of Cobra Kai walked out in a black Gi and headband. He turned and looked at Kai, Takeshi and the other new students.

"The Dojo is closed to new students today." Johnny told them.

"But we saw the Championships..." a new kid said.

"Do I need to say it again?" Johnny demanded. "Get out!"

The new kids scurried away, leaving only Kai and Takeshi.

"Do you think you're funny? Get out." Johnny said loudly.

Kai reasoned with the Sensei. "We're not new students. We just wanted to see what Cobra Kai is like...we practice similar styles of karate."

Johnny looked skeptical but thought that the two of them would be useful to test his students. "Fine. I'll make an exception for you two. Don't ever expect it to happen again."

Thanking Johnny, the two ignored the glares from the students and changed into their Gis. Anyone else would've been extremely intimidated by the eyes on the two boys right now, everyone was looking and murmuring about them, about the tournament and most importantly about their fights.

Once ready, stood at the back of the class, waiting for Johnny Lawrence's instructions.

"Ok. Fall in everyone." Johnny instructed as the whole class made thier way towards him.

"Were you celebrating all weekend Sensei?" Hawk asked with a smirk.

"Celebrating what?" Johnny said sternly. "That my students are a bunch of pussies?"

Silence.

"Diaz! Hawk! Up front!" Johnny said loudly, before motioning for Kai. "You too kid."

Kai made his way and stood on the left side of Johnny, whilst Miguel and Hawk stood on Johnny's right side.

"Hawk, did you attack your opponent when his back was turned?" Johnny said, walking around the two boys and pointing at Kai.

Hawk answered timidly. "Yes Sensei."

"Diaz," Johnny continued, "did you purposefully attack your opponent's injury?"

Miguel answered certainly. "Yes Sensei."

"Think you're badass?"

The two boys looked at each other, unable to answer.

"Miss Robinson!" Johnny yelled, looking at a girl who stood at the front.

"Yes Sensei."

"Two cobras in the jungle, one kills the strongest lion, the other kills a crippled monkey, Which cobra do you want to be?" Johnny asked.

"The one that kills the lion Sensei." the girl answered.

"And why is that?" questioned Johnny.

"Because it killed the stronger animal."

"Correct," Johnny said, "you two attacked your opponent to gain an unfair advantage. You cheated to try to win. And you didn't even win."

Miguel and Hawk looked shocked.

"Diaz, Hawk, fifty push-ups on your knuckles," Johnny told them, "Miss Robinson warm them up."

As the two boys began their press-ups, Kai rejoined Takeshi who seemed a bit taken aback by the style of teaching Johnny Lawrence had.

Throughout the lesson, most of it was based on fighting and offensive techniques. Neither Kai nor Takeshi wanted to comment on how Johnny taught, because after all, it was his Dojo.

During the lesson, both boys were called up to fight some students. Kai's shoulder had slightly recovered but it was still feeling a bit sluggish.

There was a point where Johnny asked both Kai and Takeshi to spar each other and they both complied.

Stepping on the mat, the two best friends bowed at each other before fighting. After various kicks, punches, chops and other movements, it was tied two all, with the next round deciding the victor.

After recovering from Takeshi's strong kick, Kai performed an incredible spinning kick that struck Takeshi in his stomach, the other boy recovered and tried to start a counter attack, but Kai was too quick and anticipated his movements and executed flawlessly a punch that declared him as the victor.

"Good fight," Kai smiled to Takeshi, there was no bad blood between them, "it was close."

Takeshi smiled as Kai helped him up.

"You see," Johnny told his class, "that's what you want to be like. You want to be able to strike first but then maintain your position in the fight. And when they come at you, don't be afraid to come back at them ten times harder."

Miguel scoffed. "Let me show them how it's done Sensei."

"I'd rather not Mr Lawrence," Kai said politely to Johnny, "after the events at the All Valley...I think it's best that Miguel calms down before I next fight him."

Johnny didn't disagree with Kai and told Miguel to step back and refrain himself, leaving Miguel very annoyed.

"I'll fight him though." Takeshi said confidently.

Miguel accepted the challenge and a friendly fight between Takeshi and Miguel began. Takeshi was the clear victor, winning the fight three to zero. Johnny looked extremely disappointed in Miguel but tried to hide it.

"You're all dismissed." he told his class before walking to his office, with Miguel following close behind.

At the end of the lesson, Kai and Takeshi exited after the rest of the students. They had changed back into regular clothes and when they opened the door to leave the Dojo, Kai was shocked when he saw Sam in her car, talking to the girl who Johnny had referred to as 'Miss Robinson.'

Once the girl had walked away, Kai walked up. "What was that about?"

"Kai? Why are you here?" Sam asked.

"Long story, now what happened?" Kai asked again.

Sam sighed. "Just wanted to see if she wanted to hang out, but she's busy."

"You want to hang out instead?" Kai asked boldly.

Inside he felt nervous for the girl's response, what if she said no? There was no denying that there was some feelings that Kai harbored towards that girl, but he would never tell anyone. He didn't want to get pulled too deep because after all, he would be leaving in two weeks time and there wasn't enough time to form that sort of attachment.

"Sure," Sam smiled, "we can go to the beach club."

"Beach club?" Kai said, shocked.

Sam nodded. "Come on, get in."

Kai climbed into the passanger seat of the car before turning to Takeshi. "You want to come?"

Takeshi shook his head. "I'm going to go back and see if Otosan needs help with anything," he then added in Japanese, "have fun on your date."

Kai rolled his eyes and said goodbye to his friend, before turning to Sam who merely smiled at him.

Maybe he wanted this to be a date. He knew he shouldn't develop feelings for the LaRusso girl, but every time he saw her it was getting harder and harder to stop himself.
