4. The Afterparty

As Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko rushed up towards Kai, the boy felt a huge rush of happiness. These were the two people who mattered most to him, even though he still had love for his parents, Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko had given Kai more than his parents had ever given him.

Sam LaRusso also joined the celebrations, she rushed up to Kai and hugged him, and even though they had barely gotten to know each other, Kai hugged her back. A weird, new feeling rushing through him.

Once he was free from everyone congratulating him, he walked over to Miguel and the dejected squad of Cobra Kai members and bowed to them.

"Well played Miguel," Kai said politely, " even though you played dirty, you fought well."

Miguel glared at Kai and made a move towards him but Johnny pulled him back. "Watch it." he warned his student.

Kai made eye contact with Hawk and glared at him. The boy was feeling superior, he had overcome a team of cheats and even though two members of Cobra Kai karate attacked him illegally, he still won. Fair and square.

"At least in Japan they fight fair." Takeshi murmured to Kai, referring to Cobra Kai.

Kai nodded. "At least they didn't win. Cheaters never win Takeshi."

Takeshi nodded as the two boys waited for the final annoucement, declaring Kai as the winner.

"Without further ado," the announcer said, "let me present the trophy to this year's new champion, Malachai Hilton and the Tiger Claw Dojo!"

The crowd cheered for Kai, Takeshi and Sensei Yazuko as Kai collected his trophy.

"They're not even from here!" Hawk yelled in protest.

"Yeah! They shouldn't be allowed to compete." Miguel added, angry at how he had lost.

Kai looked at the two boys, were they really that keen to win?

"They're here with us," William Hilton said, whilst shaking hands with the announcer, "hey Daryl. And for your information boys, Tiger Claw Dojo is here sponsored by Hilton Hotels and Resorts."

Hawk and Miguel had shut up now, they didn't want to challenge the intimidating-looking businessman known as William Hilton.

"Congratulations son," William said to Kai, "your mother and I are very proud of you."

Kai smiled at his father.

"Do you want to hang out after? I can show you two around. " Sam asked Kai and Takeshi.

Kai looked at Takeshi who shrugged at him. "Sure," Kai replied, "why not."

Kai and Takeshi made way to tell their Sensei of their plans but Sensei Yazuko seemed already occupied, talking to Daniel LaRusso.

"Takeshi-San! Kai-San! I'm going to go catch up with Daniel here. I will see you two boys later?"

Kai and Takeshi nodded and after telling Kai's parents of their plans, they made their way to where Sam was.

"Hey Demetri!" Kai heard a voice in the background as he stood with Sam and Takeshi, happily recounting the events of the day.

All three of the teenagers turned and saw Miguel talking to a skinny looking boy. "Have you seen Sam?" Miguel asked.

Demetri motioned to where Kai, Sam and Takeshi were standing and when Miguel realised who Sam was hanging around with, his eyes filled with jealousy.

"Sam, I'm sorry." Miguel said once again, trying to ask for Sam's forgiveness.

Sam rolled her eyes. "It's a bit late for that Miguel, we're over."

"Is this because of him?" Miguel questioned angrily.

"No Miguel!" Sam said, annoyed. "It's because I don't know or like the person you've turned into!"

"Fine, whatever." Miguel scoffed before walking away.

"I'm sorry about that Kai." Sam said apologetically.

Kai smiled at the girl. "Don't worry about it, now let's go have some fun! You gotta show me and Takeshi around this place."

After the All Valley, Kai and Takeshi followed the LaRusso girl to wherever she was going to take them. They first went to a cafe where they were going to get some food, only to realise that there were Cobra Kai members eating there as well.

"They don't look too happy do they?" Takeshi snickered, looking at the group of Cobra Kai members plus a random boy and girl, the boy being the person Miguel was speaking to earlier. Speaking of Miguel, he seemed to of left the table to go somewhere.

"They're very competitive," Sam told them, "it's how they've been trained."

The three of them grabbed a table as far away from the Cobras as possible and ordered some drinks and something light to eat.

"So tell us more about this place, about you, about the karate." Kai asked Sam, intrigued about what went on in his hometown.

"Well, my dad owns a car dealership here," Sam started, "and well there's not really a lot to do. I mean there's a fair here, some other stuff and a bunch of parties that people from school throw, and karate wasn't really a big deal here until the Cobras made it a big deal."

Kai nodded. "Karate has always been a big deal where me and Takeshi live. There are always regular competitions and it's one of the main sports in Okinawa."

"Me and Kai grew up practicing karate almost every day, we would go to school and then come back and train." Takeshi added.

"What about your parents here?" Sam asked Kai.

Kai shifted uncomfortably. "Well, they used to travel a lot when I was younger and I didn't want to leave Okinawa so they agreed to let me stay with Takeshi and Sensei."

"Oh...that's cool." Sam said awkwardly, she didn't know that she had brought up a sensitive topic.

There was a silence as the drinks that they ordered arrived at their table.

"So, how long are you guys staying here?" Sam asked.

Takeshi shrugged. "Maybe we'll stay here for around a month, I suppose we're long overdue for a holiday. We'll see what Sensei has to say about it."

Kai nodded in agreement with Takeshi. He would've been fine with the idea of returning to Okinawa but after he met Sam, his opinion on that matter had slightly wavered. He wanted to get to know the girl more, she seemed extremely interesting and Kai had never felt this warm, odd feeling that he was feeling ever before. Every time he looked at her, he always felt the urge to smile.

He knew that it was inevitable that he would have to leave because Sensei Yazuko still had his Dojo to run back in Okinawa. If Kai really wanted to stay, he would have to live with his parents again but the idea of abandoning his Sensei and Takeshi seemed impossible and rude after everything they had both done for him.

Once all three of them had finished their meal, they quickly left the cafe, trying their best to ignore the Cobra Kai members. Sam asked both boys if they wanted to visit the arcade and both Takeshi and Sam agreed.

Once they arrived at the arcade, both Takeshi and Kai wasted almost all their money on all the possible arcade games.

"Fancy some air hockey?" Kai asked Sam, standing by the air hockey table.

"You're on!" Sam said with a grin and she made her way opposite.

"Hilton versus LaRusso!" Takeshi said. "Who will triumph in this epic game of air hockey?"

Both Kai and Sam smirked at each other. Game on.

Kai's reaction speed and coordination was very good so he was able to react and defend the puck from going into his goal. Sam also wasn't too bad and it was a narrow game.

"With twenty seconds left, it's three all! It's tied!" Takeshi commentated, watching the game with great interest.

The timer on the screen ticked down to five seconds...

Sam hit the puck with as much power as she could and before Kai could block it, it flew into the back of Kai's goal.

"YES! I WIN!" Sam yelled in celebration, jumping up wildly.

"Well played." Kai said, smiling at the shorter girl.

"Guess you can't win everything today." Takeshi snickered at the boy.

Kai rolled his eyes as the three of them went to the counter of the arcade, trying to find what they could get with their tickets.

"How about an octopus?" Kai suggested.

Sam's face fell as she looked down at her feet. The mention of the octopus made her think about her ex-boyfriend, Miguel.

Kai noticed Sam's sad expression. "Ok...maybe not. How about a monkey?"

Sam smiled and nodded as Kai asked the guy working at the counter to get the monkey for her. He grabbed it and passed it to Sam.

"For you m'lady." he said with a chuckle.

Sam laughed. "Thanks Kai."

The three of them began to make their way back to the LaRusso household where they were going to drop Sam off. Sam had called an Uber for them and all three of them, as well as the monkey they had won, fit into the back of the taxi as they drove back to the LaRusso house, which was also conveniently nearby to the Hilton's house.

The LaRusso's and Hilton's were familiar with each other and as the two biggest businesses in town, they got along and often invited each other for lunches or dinners.

Once the three of them had reached the door of the LaRusso household, Sam said goodbye to the two boys.

"Goodnight Takeshi." she said to Takeshi and the boy gave her a small bow.

"Night Kai." Sam smiled at the other boy before getting on her tiptoes and giving him a soft kiss on the cheek.

Once she had entered the house, the two boys started walking away and Takeshi burst out laughing at Kai.

"Oh boy, she kissed you Kai!" Takeshi exclaimed.

Kai was extremely shocked. "Not properly! On the cheek!"

Kai had a weird feeling surging through him, he had never experienced it before. Sure he had kissed someone before but it never felt like what it felt like tonight and the fireworks that Kai felt in his stomach after Sam's small act left him dazed and confused.

Why did he feel like this?

"Oh she definitely likes you," Takeshi commented, "and you definitely like her back."

"I don't!" Kai exclaimed. "I've only just met her."

Takeshi raised an eyebrow at Kai. "So would you not of preferred it if it was just you two and I wasn't there?"

"Of course not Takeshi! You're my brother, wherever I go you come with." Kai replied.

"I appreciate it Kai," Takeshi smiled, "but don't start dragging me along when you go on dates with her."

Kai rolled his eyes. "There's no point, we'll be going back home soon anyways."

"But this place is also your home Kai." Takeshi said to the boy before they both carried on walking back to the Hilton household in silence.

What Takeshi said gave Kai a lot to think about.

Was it time to come back and live with his parents?
