20. Wrong Place, Wrong Time

Kai stormed out of the garden, Sam not even bothering to follow him. He slammed the door of his car aggressively before driving back home. This was their second time together, they tried again and it didn't work out.

Maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

His tears blurred his vision as he sped down the empty road back to his house. He arrived safely at his home and ignored his parents and rushed straight up to his room. What was he going to do now?

Normally, when faced with a magnitude of emotions, Kai liked to write songs and channel his emotions through creative arts. He looked around for some pen and paper and sat himself down at the keyboard his parents had brought for him. Once they found out that their son had a passion for writing songs and music, they brought instruments and decorated his room with it so it almost looked like a mini recording studio.

He messed around with the keyboard, playing a few chords here and there before he found a chord sequence that he liked.

She told me that she loved me by the water fountain
She told me that she loved me and she didn't love him
And that was really lovely 'cause it was innocent
But now she's got a cup with something else in it
It's getting kind of blurry at a quarter-past-ten
And he was in a hurry to be touching her skin
She's feeling kind of dirty when she's dancing with him
Forgetting what she told me by the water fountain

Now he's grabbing her hips, and pulling her in
Kissing her lips, and whispering in her ear
And she knows that she shouldn't listen
And that she should be with me by the water fountain

There was so much pain in Kai's life that he couldn't even seem to comprehend, if you told him a year ago that he would be in so much pain because of a girl, he would've merely laughed in your face. But the heartache and pain Sam LaRusso was putting him through were truly immense.

He reminisced everything that happened that day by the water fountain in Okinawa and he thought she truly meant every word she said. It felt real to him.

Obviously it wasn't if Sam was able to kiss Miguel.

He wasn't going to let Sam and Miguel get the best of him. He was going to work through this, no matter how many weeks, months or years it took.

As he sang, you could hear the pain in his voice. He was channeling all the emotions that he was feeling, he stopped to look on his phone only to be greeted with familiar faces that he wished not to see.

He hovered his finger over the 'delete account' button and pressed it. He was leaving social media because it would just painfully remind him of everything that he went through. He just wished that he could forget everything and that he could just pretend that nothing ever happened and he could go back to Japan and forget all about her.

He kept on trying to tell himself that it was just the wrong place and the wrong time and Sam was still the right person for him, but after all the heartbreak he had been through and how even after a second chance, it didn't work out it really made him question.

Was Sam LaRusso really the right person?

Kai quickly went downstairs after hours of sulking in his room to tell his parents that he wanted to leave as soon as possible, he wanted to get out of here. His parents nodded, understanding, and booked him the soonest possible flight leaving in three days time.

Over by the LaRusso home, Miguel and Sam were together with a combination of other students trying to get them to all group together, Eagle Claw and Miyagi-Do. They wanted to form an alliance so that they could take down Cobra Kai, the biggest assholes in the whole of the Valley.

Demetri was speaking to the group as Sam and Miguel stood by his side. Sam was regretful of what had happened but was still somewhat content with Miguel. At least with him, he would stay in the Valley rather than keep on always coming and leaving. However, there wasn't the same spark that Sam had with Kai but the girl ignored that. She liked Miguel, he was nice, he was cute.

But he wasn't Kai.

There was a meow from behind the table the group were all at.

"Aw," a boy with glasses said, "I think your cat wants to come in."

He made his way out towards the door to get the cat.

"I didn't know you had a cat." Miguel said to Sam, confused.

Sam was equally confused. "We don't..."

Just then, the same boy who had went out the get the cat was thrown back in through the window. Everyone gasped and got up to look at the boy.

"Bert!" Miguel said, concerned. "What happened?"

The boy had cuts on his face and his glasses had disappeared. "No cat." he groaned out.

Just then, walking in through the door was Hawk and Kyler, accompanied with a bunch of other Cobras. Miguel looked at him and all the memories came flashing back to him. From them beating him up outside the convenience store to when Miguel beat them up in the cafeteria.

Kyler smirked. "It's payback time Rhea."

The others grabbed Bert back, just to prevent him from getting hurt even more. Just as those Cobras starting approaching them, the front door burst open and in walked Tory accompanied with two other Cobra Kai students.

Tory made eye contact with Sam and Sam felt her throat close slightly, she was struggling to inahel and exhale like normal.

"Heard you were throwing a party," Tory said to everyone, "hope you don't mind if we crash."

"Tory, you don't have to do this." Miguel pleaded to her.

"It's too late!" Tory said angrily. "This ends tonight! NO MERCY!"

Tory and the two others began charging towards the Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do students who all got into their fighting stances. The first two who tried to stop Tory ended up getting painfully punched in the face. All chaos broke out as everyone was attacking everyone. There were groans and cries of pain everywhere as people kicked and punched each other.

Miguel sent a kick towards Kyler but the taller boy blocked it and sent two strong punches towards Miguel's upper body, leaving the Diaza boy grunting and falling to the ground.

"Call that a kick?" Kyler taunted. "Come on!"

Full of rage, Miguel tried to perform a spinning kick on Kyler but he grabbed his leg and threw Miguel onto a table, leaving the boy gasping for air and yelling in pain.

A very temperamental Cobra Kai student dressed in a red hoodie was trying to hurt Chris, but the boy grabbed a frying pan and hit him right in the head, causing the Cobra to stumble backwards.

When Chris next saw him, there was a crazy, psychopathic smile on his face as he laughed. "Come on bitch! Let's go!"

He charged back towards Chris and sent a knee to his stomach before punching him and throwing him to the ground, leaving Chris in a lot of pain.

The Cobras were one by one overpowering the rest of them, they were just stronger and more aggressive. There were people falling and flying all over the place, falling victim to the Cobras' ruthless movements.

"Come right at me pussy!" Hawk yelled as a kid tried to kick him, Hawk ducked and smashed a glass vase over his head, leaving the boy crying and bleeding.

"Yeah!" Hawk roared. "Eat that shit up! Get up!"

Sam was holding up well, although she had been hit a few times, she was able to hurt some of the Cobra Kai students, luckily Tory was too preoccupied with other people to try and hurt Sam again.

As Kyler beat Miguel up intensely, Sam and Tory dealt with their respective opponents and faced each other. Tory walked towards Sam and she backed up slightly, trying get away from the maniacal girl.

Sam wished so much that Kai was here, here to save her yet again but he wasn't, she had lost him. As she backed up she made her way to the door, she saw that Tory was distracted by a boy who tried to attack her so Sam took the opportunity to run away. Leaving Tory kicking the boy who had distracted her angrily.

As Sam ran into the indoor Miyagi-Do Dojo, she was panting. Tory had unfortunately followed her. Sam was breathing heavily as she turned to face Tory. As Tory approached, she sent a kick right to Sam's face and the girl didn't even bother to defend herself, she left and fell to the floor with a groan.

"I gotta be honest LaRusso," Tory said from above her, "I thought you'd put up more of a fight."

She walked over and picked up a pair of nunchucks from a shelf.

"I guess I'll have to make my own fun."

As Tory spun the nunchucks and made her way to strike Sam, Sam dodged and grabbed a Bo Staff and got back onto her feet. The two girls circled, looking at each other...the fight began.

Over back into the house, Miguel was looking bloody as Kyler had finally gotten the best of him.

"They never stood a chance!" Kyler said happily to Hawk who now looked extremely troubled. As Hawk looked around, he saw the Cobras beating up everyone who wasn't on their side viciously.

Kreese got into your head.

When you came to my Dojo, you were as soft as a baby's ass. I made you who you are! Not Kreese! He doesn't give a shit about you.

The enemy of the enemy is your friend.

Breathing shakily, Hawk decided that he had to change, that Kreese had led him down a dark path, and that he knew what he had to do to make things right.

Sprinting over to the Cobras who were now attacking Demetri, he jumped and took both of the boys out, spinning on of them onto the glass table.

"Look man," Hawk said to Demetri, "I'm sorry. For all of it. Do you want to help me win this thing?"

"Yeah." Demetri smiled as the boys shared a high five.

Their fight resumed, this time they actually stood more of a chance.

Just before Kai was meant to get to the airport to depart, he decided to go for a drive. It was dark and the night breeze was refreshing to him as he inhaled it all since his car windows were down. There was a song playing in the background, but Kai wasn't listening. The boy stared idly at the road, trying to go as quickly as he could. This was therapeutic for him, the feeling of the air rushing past his face calmed him down. Normally, he wouldn't of exceeded the speed limit but the road was isolated and he didn't expect anyone to be on the road.

As Kai slammed his foot on the accelerator, the car went faster and faster and Kai was feeling this new form of adrenaline. What he didn't know was that there was debris on the road in front of him, and with the sun gone and the road very dimly lit, there was no time for him to react. By the time he saw it in his headlights, he tried to swerve and brake but he was going too fast.

He hit the tree trunk and his car toppled over, parts of it smashing and flying in all directions. Glass shattered and hit his face as he body bent grotesquely due to the car almost splitting in half.

As the glass and metal piled on top of him, Kai could feel his life flashing past him.

His early business trips with his parents.

The first time he met Takeshi.

The first time he met his Sensei.

All his training sessions in the Dojo.

Meeting Sam.

Kissing Sam.

Being with Sam.

Sam telling him she loved him and not Miguel.

Miguel and Sam kissing.

Why wasn't he good enough for her?

He couldn't fathom an answer as his body went limp and his vision blurred into darkness.
